An open thread on the Caledonia standoff at Dust My Broom. Rasky writes;
No other right-leaning blog out there is doing anything like this, and
I want to hear what people have to say. I’m getting really sick of the
MSM lapdogs and IndyMedia anarchists hogging the web.
Lots of updates and commentary.

Update – from DMB comments, the QOTW;
“They have counted coup on the all-season radial. Warriors indeed.”

The Canadian government should grant Indian status to all Canadian citizens. Then we can be equal. Parliament could be renamed the Grand Assembly of First Nations, and the Prime Minister could be Grand Chief. Well all have tax exemptions, so government revenue will collapse, but that will be Whiteys problem, not ours. Well all be aboriginals, and can spend our days blocking roads and demanding land, cash, and services. Not much work will get done, but we can have healing circles and spend our days in the sweat lodge and at pow-wows, so well feel great. Well love the environment, and since factories and refineries will be closed, the air will be clean and fresh. Our rivers and lakes might be a little dirty, though, since there wont be any money to operate sewage treatment plants.
Before long, most Canadians will tire of an idle, unproductive life, and will recognize that people will have to provide for themselves, not rely on a bankrupt government. The Grand Assembly can levy taxes that will apply to all us natives equally, and then Canadians can get back to work. There will no longer be any special race-based benefits, since well all be the same race under the eyes of the law.
although conservatives aren’t known for understanding nuance, “indianville” seems somehow below the mark for you kate.
Indianville, I believe was coined by a real Indian, not Kate. But an Indian who isn’t enthralled with being looked after by the government, so maybe his voice doesn’t count.
i have my say over on my blog http://www.ottawacore.com/blog. my last post is titled: Haldimand County Rescinds Mayor’s Racist Comments. i’ve got an mp3 file from the deputy mayor suggesting the mayor’s unkind characterizations of our native brothers and sisters is not one which the full haldimand council agrees with. you’ll have to listen to how he states it. everyone must turn on to CKRZ online audio stream. links on my site. unlike dust, my emotions are kept in check a wee bit more than his own. (okay i gushed once).
“Indianville” is a theme that’s in use over at Dust My Broom. If you actually check the link provided, you’ll see that.
Why has no one brought out the documents to prove once and for all who owns the land, if the province had the right to sell it or if it is indeed Native owned land from a Treaty.? Why is this even happening–surely there is proof for what either side is putting out.
The Mayor did not make racist comments. She simply implied that natives recieve funds from the government because they are native, which is true.
If that’s not true, where does that $10 Billion dollars go every year? It doesn’t go back to the taxpayers who pay it, it goes into native pockets.
Infidel: “If that’s not true, where does that $10 Billion dollars go every year?”
One would hope maybe this latest ‘protest’ will shed some light on it seeing we have a Conservative government in office.
Otherwise, business as usual – protests, your tax dollars hard *cough* at work *cough, hack, ack*…
Sorry, dunno what came over me…
“Nuance”
Ha!
John “Effin'” Kerry and his band o’ brothers are in the house!
Ive read the same solution in ever blog ive visited in the past three days, and a great deal of the respondents had THE RIGHT SOLUTION, Give them the land and stop the money. If they want equality, thats it.
Where did all the cops come from? I thought they were all over at the farmer woh worked for a living producing eggs. Er I mean he wasn’t personaly producing eggs more that he was supervising the production, you get the picture.
On a more serious note why not let the indians have the property. Let them have all of Canada. There is more of us than them so we can pass laws, such as rent control and habitability, and should be able to live like oriental potentates. In BC they claim 120% of the provience so they should be able to increase the GDP by 20% so we should be able to give ourselves a 20% raise.
I heard a rumour that the C.B.C is in talks with Jim Carrey to play Dalton (one term) McGuilty in the movie version, a sequel to “One Dead Indian.” I wonder if the Ontario Gov’t will be rushing through funding for this one?
“although conservatives aren’t known for understanding nuance” Hmmm, does “nuance mean holding groups of logically contradictory views in one’s mind?
Such as:
1. opposition to capital punishment but support for unlimited abortion of unborn babies on demand (aka a “woman’s right to choose”);
2. opposition to racial discrimination but support for “affirmative action” reverse racial discrimination;
3. “we support the troops!” but do everything possible to sabotage the Western World’s defensive Global War on Terror;
4. The US and George Bush are evil but Communist Cuba and dictator Fidel Castro are good.
I could go on and on…but let’s just say that “nuance” is the euphemistic code word for leftists being intellectual and moral chameleons, as convenience and expedience demand.
Interesting. It’s kind of like “Lord of the Flies” except that was fiction.
I have no idea why the natives are blocking the road. I don’t care. They are blocking the road.
If WE blocked the road you can be damn sure we would be removed immediately.
The same should apply to them.
As long as they block the road they get no funding, nothing. That should move a few feet in the right direction!
I heard this morning that the powers that be ‘hoped cooler heads prevailed’.
WHY should they? Can they not understand the natural frustration of ANYONE blocking the road? ANY road? By their very origin they are for general travel and use by everyone not for the natives to hijack when they feel like it for whatever greivance of the day they want to flog.
Authorities should enforce the LAW before a few heads get busted.
I am just blown away by the fact that last night the RCMP of Canada protected an illegal blockade from the taxpayers who paid for the public road (and their salaries) in the first place. Where did equal rights go???? Everyone is afraid of the Indians. Politicians, media and the general public don’t even want to face reality. The Indian Act must be abolished. Give them their passport, treat them as every other Canadian. Give them their individual property rights, but at the same time give property rights to every Canadian at the same time. The people that live in Caledonia deserve to have their rights protected in this mess, they deserve to be heard.
I wonder how fast the government would act if whitey set up a blockade on the roads leading to the Casino on the the Rama Indian Reserve?
My guess is that those on the blockade would be in jail within the hour.
Good for the resident’s, it is about time the people of the country stood up to these asshats. Only in Canada can someone expect to get treated fairly by breaking the law, the native protestors should be shown what the inside of a jail cell looks like.
My office is 10 km from Caledonia and I do business (or try to now) in this town.
Why are chickensh*t politicians afraid of these shiftless degenerates. 90% of them don’t care to work or be productive members of this or their society.
They’ve had 200 years to get with the program. Will somebody please put the hammer down.
Media descriptions of the citizen action were variations of the “angry mob” phrase. Fair enough, they were angry, but when I watched the native protestors “peacefully” force the OPP off the contested land, the reporters described them with slack-jawed adoration. Apparently they weren’t a mob, and if they were angry, well, that was just righteousness. Yeah, right.
I had the feeling the reporters secretly wanted to get autographs from every punk with a flag and a bandana.
Inerestingly enough, I saw the best coverage of the citizens’ rally on the local cable station. Lots of footage of the event, without a lot of the usual editorializing from the reporter. Of course, these are amateurs and beginners who don’t presume to explain what you’re seeing.
1. opposition to capital punishment but support for unlimited abortion of unborn babies on demand (aka a “woman’s right to choose”);
(snip)
4. The US and George Bush are evil but Communist Cuba and dictator Fidel Castro are good.
WEll, they’ve always got “good” answers for these, but a more interesting question is found halfway between these beliefs: the death penalty is inherently evil in the US but necessary in Cuba (if its use is acknowledged at all) as a means of “defending the revolution”.
I saw last nights CTV “news”, smirk, report, the yakking head kept on saying things like “well if the developer really does own the land.”
Like it’s in question.
Right,… you go and and try to park your car, on land you don’t own anywhere in Canada, and within an hour someone is telling you to move along.
It’s pretty much settled who owns what around here.
Ten years ago the province put all land titles on the internet and put the “Title Search” industry into the sphere of the Great Auk, gone, just like the stone age culture that existed before whitey got here, times change.
It’s a 40 acre field.
Indians do not have a point, we owe them nothing.
Our kids ,kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, owe their kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, …same as us,…nothing.
Two years ago I was sitting in a Vietnamese restaurant on Spadina just south of College in Toronto having dinner with my wife (Her father came from China, like it matters) and another couple, when I was approached by a totally blasted staggering pair of “Indiginous persons”.
As one of them leaned right into my face, he exclaimed “Why don’t YOU, get off my land.”
It was clearly meant as a face to face taught to fight, when I stood up the staff quickly rushed them!
We still all refer to that restaurant as “Get-off-my-land”.
These “A”hole criminal extorsionists burning tires and chucking minivans to appease the great spirit of the LAAAAAND, have as much validity as the two beligerant drunks in the restaurant in China Town.
End multiculturalism, political correctness, and race based special rights,… ONE LAW FOR ALL!
Quick solution:
Caterpillar armoured D9, and 30 – 40 Remington Express 12 gauge with rock salt, and a case of pepper spray, should settle it.
The reason these flare ups continue and the indianville industry contiues to profit on the vagueness of aboriginal claims is because our gutless politicians have avoided settling the issue definitively and legally…..consequently a policy of buying off demands with funding to keep indianville on a liberal welfare “plantaion” has become entrenched.
I had a look at the documentation these protesters base their “claim” on and it is frivilous in the extreme….my guess is that it’s the silly season and time for indianville’s professional protest teams to break out in “outrage” so an new Ont. government is called to pow wow and make some more revenue commitments to the plantation cheifs to keep them quiet for another term.
I was beginning to think I was the only one that felt there were inconsistencies in how some are treated as opposed to others. Glad to see I’m not alone. Regardless of how some may think, I feel that pointing out crap does not a racist make. This is not exclusive to Caledonia.
We had better make all land in Canada all for one and one for all or we won’t HAVE a Canada to fight over… eventually these kinds of chickens come home to roost with gusto.
There were inequalities in the past, but who , what culture, what people, when conquered, and the native indians of all tribes WERE conquered, have not suffered by the very nature of the fact.
We cannot and should not apologize for real or imaginary slights of the past. We cannot go around trying to right all wrongs, real or perceived.
Once you try to appease , they think they have you where they want you, and in the case of our Indian Affairs portfolio in Canada, they are exactly right. We have squandered billions of dollars and what has it got them or us?
ABSOLUTELY nothing.
They need to hitch up their socks, moccasins, whatever and go to work like the rest of us and pay taxes like the rest of us instead of sucking off the tit of government ( US). They need to be made full fledged citizens with all the rights and the responsibilities of same.
Right now they have huge rights and we pay for them and they have no responsibility whatsoever.
The RCMP and OPP should be ashamed of themselves for not upholding the law and removing these miscreants and tearing down the blockade.
Some may call the following Racist. Too bad.
Under the charter of rights and freedoms, race is specificly mentioned as a condiition for which someone may NOT be discriminated against. so;
It is against the charter to;
*Hand out cheques monthly, based on race
*Offer free post secondary education, based on race
*allow off-season hunting and fishing with no bag limits, based on race.
*Treat gross breaches of Canadian law such as occupation of private property and public roadways with extreme leniance, based on race.
Equality for all, under the LAW.
Wouldn’t you say that allowing Indians to fish on certain days and everybody else to maybe fish on other days (or maybe not at all) is a racist policy? I see this happening on a regular basis in BC. There is something very wrong with this picture.
unfortunately, “Albertan Technophile” there’s an exagerated reference to Section 25 in each and every bottle of protester opposition!
So you think its right to treat others more gently, or even cater to others demands because they happen to be of a particular race?
And to label anyone who objects with the impossible to defend from label of “racist”?
I’d rather see all people treated with equal respect and dignity.
The untold story on reserves in Ontario is the amount of un-regulated tobacco being sold to non-natives.
1. Korean store owners protest at Queen’s park……number 1 issue….$20.00 cartons being sold on reserves….MSM reports protest was over rising utility rates.
2. During election…Belleville’s public health officials mention illegal tobacco showing up in schools…..Conservative candidate promises to look into issue….few days later billboard on hwy 401 appears “Harper Hates Indians”
3. Drive thru smoke shacks popping up on reserves throughout Ontario….who is controlling the flow of this product???
4. Ontario Liberals claim smoking is on the decrease in Ontario…..the truth is that smoking is actually on the rise….the government now has no way of tracking it.
5. convenience stores in eastern ontario are reporting decreases in cig sales from 25% – 70%.
Why are chickensh*t politicians afraid of these shiftless degenerates. 90% of them don’t care to work or be productive members of this or their society.
90%? I’m not sure that’s quite close to accurate. One ought to be a little careful with the invective being flung, lest one lower oneself into the same canoe as the current crop of protesting malcontents.
There are plenty of good, hard-working indians. Don’t assume that the vocal minority is an accurate representation of the greater population.
That said, the ‘leadership’ of these people need to understand that there is a right way and a wrong way to effect change. As long as this Horn loony holds sway, I’m not optimistic that will take place.
