This is risible nonsense. In the two months that have passed since Paul Martin announced he would not be leading the Liberals into another election, this is the first inkling we have ever heard from Belinda that she had a problem with the Liberal party�s leadership process.

Stronach’s talking points today, less than three weeks later, are a transparent rationalization for the fact that her weak support among traditional Liberals means she could only win the leadership if she were free to essentially take over the party with new members. Yet Scott Brison, Michael Ignatieff and Bob Rae do not seem deterred, though they are essentially starting from the same place.
In the Simpsons episode that features the musical version of �A Streetcar Named Desire,� the closing song includes the line �a stranger�s just a friend you haven�t met.� I guess to Stronach, a �grassroots Liberal� is just somebody whose membership she hasn�t bought yet.

I think that while Belinda could be called a lot of things, stupid is probably not one of them. She probably realizes her running would appear to many, if not most, as completely opportunistic. She serves herself better, and frankly her party better, by waiting. It could be a while before the Libs get a shot at getting back in, and she may very well get a shot at the gold ring before they do.
And while waiting, she can learn to bake bigger economic pies in French.
Apparently the big stumbling block for her is that she can’t speak or learn french. Since the Liberals have to regain support in Quebec she would only embarass herself if she were to run.
Other wealthy families usually relegate their own feeble-minded to the guest house at the back of the property.
I just wonder what McKay saw in her. Maybe it was ‘Big Daddy’ McKay’s ambitions.

I suspect Liberals are somewhat chameleon in their activities. They are protesting like crazy on the one hand, while diving for cover at every opportunity on the other.

Knowing that the Liberals probably don’t have much chance of winning the next election is probably colouring a lot of leadership candidate’s thinking these days. I fully expect the No Discernable Prospects to take over the Liberals pretty quick.

I’d agree; I think that Belinda ‘succeeds’ only when she can buy/manipulate votes. She has no principles, no platform, no agenda – other than to carry out her father’s agenda – which is to keep his family and contacts (Desmarais, PowerCorp, Magna) in political power.
What amazes me is how a vapid, empty-headed girl can get as far as she is – in the public eye. Whatever she has done, has been only as the front girl for her father. On her own – she has accommplished nothing, absolutely nothing.
My guess is that she knew she couldn’t win the leadership by her tactic of buying it, via her father’s money. My spepculation is that her French isn’t as important as some feel; it’s about the infrastructure that prevents her from buying the vote.
But, one thing for sure- she’s not going to go away.
What is interesting is what ideology the Liberal Party will select as their self-definition. They began, in our modern era, with Trudeau’s extreme socialism – which moved Canadians into a centralist authoritarian welfare state. Everyone must be homogeneous (enforced bilingualism); and differences would be marginalized to balkanized self-motivated ‘special interest groups’ within the travesty of multiculturalism.
Then, we moved into Chretien’s ideology, which was purely and only about power. His and his cronies (Desmarais, PowerCorp, Magna).
Martin, of course, was stunned by leadership, couldn’t handle it, and collapsed into being a weathervane.
Now- we have a CPC party – with a clear ideology and agenda. The Liberals haven’t had an ideology since Trudeau’s version of communism; that ideology isn’t working..and they moved into a mode of blaming all problems (health care, military, transportation, crime) on The Americans.
Will they now continue to be bereft of an ideology, and simply move to blaming all problems on Harper?

If she thought for a moment that any of the old boys club would want a traitor in the hunt for the leadership, guess that she found out quickly what her floor cross bought her….nothing! The rules to cap spending by leadership rivales finished Bimbenda off. Her only asset is her cash, and once that was taken away, she was out of the race.

Ad hominem, I know, but I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who finds Belinda astonishingly unattractive: yes, both her mind and physical appearance. Of course, there’s not much she can do about the substandard intelligence, but, with all that money, I can’t understand why she hasn’t done a lot more with her substandard looks. (I think that’s probably got something to do with the intelligence quotient.)

What I find interesting is that the Liberal Party seems to be focusing on leaders without also focusing on ideology. The Liberal Party has no ideology and hasn’t had one since Trudeau’s nefarious Platonic idealism. How can you select a leader of a party, which is supposed to have an ideology, without also focusing on your ideology?
The fact that Belinda Stronach could be even, for one nanosecond, considered as a potential leader of the party suggests that Liberals are considering only one thing: Power. Not an ideology or agenda. Just – the Power to Get Us In Control in Ottawa. By the use of money, the use of cronyism.
The citizens? They’ll be dealt with by manipulative propaganda..as is usual with the Liberals. The Liberals consider that basic power rests, not in a set of coherent policies (their policies are mere bribes) in an infrastructural network – of behind the scenes cronyism.
Her father’s money, and her propaganda usefulness (a woman!)were all that she brought to the table. With the new Liberal rules, delegates couldn’t be bought as easily. Therefore, she knew she couldn’t win the leadership.
I heard today, on a TV analysis (can’t recall whether it was Newman or Duffy)..someone actually suggest that the reason she withdrew was to ‘look after her two young children’. Hah.
It is also interesting to see how the MSM are handling this leadership race, and the current Harper gov’t. I get the sense that they view the CPC and Harper as ‘accidents’, who are ‘minding the ship’, while the Liberals get over some alien influenza (probably having crossed the border via the Evil Americans).
The sense that the only valid governing party is the Liberals, who govern by virtue of Divine Right, and not by policy – remains with the MSM.
Will the next Liberal leader be chosen with this in mind – his Divinity?

Its pretty obvious why Belinda decided not to run. She is the least qualified candidate in a party with a high concentration of Ontario/Toronto area candidates that all have essentially the same point of veiw (slight exception for Ignatieff, at least in regard to his POV). She looked around and realized it wasn’t exactly going to be worth it to spend $50,000 on a leadership race she had no place being in in the first place. Simple.

I agree with that. Belinda found out the hard way that the grass wasn’t any greener on the left side of the fence, there was just a lot more cowbrand fertilizer. If she was to continue building support to win party leadership, Belinda would be required to give the backroom boys full backdoor access (with daddy’s blessing).
Crossing the floor to a meaningless cabinet post probably made her feel pretty slimy given the circumstances. But the next step to become the woman leading Canada’s most corrupt party would completely transform her into Lady MacBeth…and no matter how much she scrubbed the slime just wouldn’t come off. It seems like a career path full of backroom boys she’s not prepared to go down on.
If she quits politics now to escape suffocating liberal slimedogs, Belinda might have a chance at regaining some of the virtue and promise she lost the night she became PMPM’s showgirl.

When she talks to the press it’s obvious that she has been primed, and she just keeps running the same loop, no matter what questions are thrown at her. If she runs to the end of “the tape,” she simply rewinds to some point in her pre-set speech and doesn’t even seem to be embarrassed by it.
She also gets a funny, determined look on her face, mouth set, brows furrowed (just a bit), to make us think that there is some gravitas to what she is saying. Frankly, she doesn’t know what the heck she’s talking about. It’s all programmed. She couldn’t think or talk her way out of a paper bag. She’s a laughing stock.
Lead the Liberal Party–any party? That’s so risible I’m holding my sides. She is so transparent and such a phoney that I’m gobsmacked that anyone could be taken in by her.
There will be no golden ring either now or in the future, and I actually suspect that yesterday’s press conference–what a joke–is her swan song. Like some of the other posts, I don’t think she’ll be around much longer. She’s burned any bridges she may have built, and now that it’s clear that Daddy’s money can’t buy this one, what else has she got?

But, in order to conceive or achieve either, one has to have a moral core. I haven’t discerned such an essence in BS. If I’m mistaken, I’d be willing, with evidence, to amend my thinking.

The person (who is theoretically not a suspect, but the victim in this case believes its the same man… and he was arrested by citizens in HER playground WHILE she was playing maybe a hundred metres away) had blonde/orange stripes in his black hair.
He put up a fight, but was overwhelmed.
