Via commentor “Mississauga Matt” who writes; “seems that the CBC’s Jennifer Ditchburn was trolling for information about the Woodbridge couple murdered this week in Mexico”.

Ms. Ditchburn has apparently decided against using me as a source as I haven’t received a response to my last e-mail. Here’s the progression:
Quote:
ME: I live less than 10 miles from Barcelo Maya… I’ll answer any questions you may have.

Jennifer Ditchburn wrote: Could we call you for a phone interview?

ME: I’d prefer to answer your questions via e-mail, if possible. I checked my map after I wrote you… Barcelo is actually only 3 kilometers from here.

JD: Hmmm…it’s hard for me to use any information from an anonymous source. People are always skeptical. I promise it would be painless…!

ME: Jennifer, I’m not sure how I’m any more anonymous via e-mail than I am via telephone. My name is Susie, I am an American expatriate, living in a small community south of Playa del Carmen and north of the Barcelo. My phone connection is wobbly at best, and costly at worst! I’m happy to answer whatever questions you have via e-mail, but it’s certainly up to you. I will be happy to give you my Mexican cell phone # (984 115 xxxx) if it proves to you that I live here… but, seeing as how it’s Mexico, I don’t have service in my home, only when I drive out to the main highway, and I’m not willing to do that. And no response… guess I was right, eh?
Just an interesting thread, no more or less. The rest is here.

Somebody in the Canadian media said it’s hard to use information from anonymous sources?
Must be a reporter who never covered politics.
CBC. So what do we pay these people for?
I don’t see how Jennifer was being irresponsible. What’s so bad about what she did?
I have lived abroad and received such calls. On one hand, researchers are just seeking background information and potential interviews. On the other hand, there is an agenda and researchers are seeking interview subjects that fit within a story line.
When I had such conversations, I certainly knew that they were not original – but I felt odd when I closed the phone. I wondered whether I had been accurate, or given the correct angle to my answer.
Thanks Kate for making this link available to all through the Internet.
I agree with the reporter here. She has many leads and obviously must take those she can talk to over the phone ahead of those over email. As August1991 says, sometimes you talk to someone on the phone and know immediately that the he/she was not original and honest. You can’t tell if a person is BS’ing or not over email.
I am hesitant to diss Ms Ditchburn as both she and reporter Heather Hiscox did a very good job reporting the Canadian Alliance/Progressive Conservative merger. She has been a Parliament Hill reporter for some time.
If Mexico is so safe – why do you not want to give our your phone number LOL!!!!!
Something “stinks” mi amiga – even our Canadian RCMP spokespeople on TV last night said that it just didn’t add up. A Canadian CTV reporter who is at the resort right now said it seems to be a “cover up” by Mexican authorities. No guests were questioned the bodies were put into an unmarked vehicle. A cleaner cleaned the room before any forensic’s took place etc. And Canadian RCMP have no such people on the security camera’s from Pearson. No one knows what really happened, hopefully the truth will come out – but in the meantime – BUYER BEWARE!
