Blogging’s Greatest Mystery

Cerberus asks the million reader question;

It seems that, during the election, Liberal bloggers pretty much got their butts kicked by a much larger, much more determined, much broader and much more widely read (both by John Q. Public and media interlopers) conservative blogs. We started to catch on only in the last 2 weeks or so as more Liberals, out of desperation, suddenly “got it” about blogs. So what can we do to maximize the blogosphere for the next one? The same thing happened to the Democrats in the US and they paid for it and still are.
[…]
What do Liberal bloggers need to do to “catch up” to Blogging Tories or American bloggers and have a bigger impact on the leadership race and on political discourse in Canada?

While there are ways that bloggers on the left could improve readership and “impact” that I could share … I’m not going to. Figure it out for yourselves. Ha!
I don’t think it would help much, anyway. The primary reason that liberal/left bloggers in both Canada and the US have so much more difficulty gaining traction in the way the conservative-shere has isn’t really a mystery – they compete with the majority of voices in mainstream media for their readers – and we don’t.
I don’t know how you fix that, Ted.
Further thoughts – here’s a piece of advice I will offer. As I scanned “progressive” blog aggregators during the months leading up to the election, it was fascinating to watch the escalation of personal attacks on myself and other conservative bloggers. Sometimes just sideswipe name calling and ad hominem, sometimes entire posts were devoted to responding to, ridiculing or ranting about something written here at SDA.
Now, I would suggest that you lefties who have been pondering your own irrelevance think hard about something – how often do you see me attacking any of you?
Call it a clue.

  1. And leftoids spend so much time in pointless battles on conservative sites! Why? Are they lonely? Are their own sites so devoid of content they must look elsewhere? I think they’re enraged there’s a forum for other points of view. They think a brief exposure to their cleverness will cure us of our right wing ways.

I hear you make repeated references to weaknesses of the flesh as well. Are you making the argument that atheism and christianity are mutually exclusive points of view?
The answer to that is a hearty no sh*t sherlock!
And I don’t know about you but I think you can make a good case for the effacy of reason. Case in point you’re reading this right now using:
    a) Scientific Method derived technology such as a computer.
    b) Faith based technology such as a grilled cheese sandwich possesed by the Virgin Mary.

  6. Kate..bragging about blogging is bullshit ….yours especially sucks..everybody being sooo reasonable and NEVEr get to the topic…Someone said, if a thing can be explained in two words ans somebody explains it in ten they are capable of other horrible things

  7. Lofasz, This post of Kate’s and your challange comment has prompted me to ask Liberals at CalgaryGrit a few honest but embarrassing questions about how they expect any voter to respect them in the future.
Lowfaz, ooops, Lofasz, you may be sour grapes at the moment because you liberals failed even though you had every possible advantage.
My questions on CalgaryGrit, if answered, will show you how your party plans to clean out the Chretienite criminals and instill new respect for the party in the eyes of the voter.
If the answers are true and effective, I will look the fool.
I have no idea what answers may develop, however I am betting nothing of real substance is offered.
If that’s the case, Lowfaz, then this is your opportunity to offer ideas that will remove the fraud stigma from the Liberal party. TG

  8. I like this idea of far more socialist blogs out there. Ripping silly arguments to shreds is generally a more enjoyable activity than just forwarding a bunch of Kate’s posts to people with the “hey you gotta read this..so true” subject line.
