CTV: Reloscam Story On

Saw a promo at supper news – the Reloscam story is finally making it to air on the CTV National Whistleblower segment this evening.
Read the background at Conservative Life from Jan.1, 2006.
Update – read the comments for more Having watched this, my respect for Kathy Tomlinson just fell a notch. As Craig Smith points out – this story was in the can for 4 weeks , With the potential to be as big or bigger than Sponsorship, CTV instead chose to hold it during the election. Why?
That means there plenty of time to corner the Public Works minister of the day, Scott Brison. Yet, his name was never mentioned in the piece. Instead, CTV showed footage of the new PW minister walking through a lobby and told us officials hadn’t briefed him yet.
CTV’s Online version.

  1. The blather from the left liberals/NDP/red tories yelling for “recall”,& etc.,… blahblah is sheer, unmitigated nonsense/hypocrisy; they know it, also.
The Reform party platform proposed such policies in 1993. The liberals & others poohpooed/denigrated this type of reform; their principal attack was that this was anti-democratic drivel from Alberta rednecks who wanted to destroy Canada.
Today, the liberal/left is using “recall” Emerson/Fortier as a demagogic appeal to the crass ignorance of some. The wheel turns.
    Long live Preston Manning.
Long live Prime Minister Stephen Harper. >>
    Referendum, Initiative and Recall
If elected, a Reform Government will introduce legislation and constitutional proposals to create binding referendum, citizensitiative, and recall mechanisms at the federal level. >>>

  2. UPDATE: I just had an extended conversation with Kathy Tomlinson. I have every reason to believe her contention that their was no political motivation regarding the timing of the story or the content of the story.
She stated that when there is a change in government the new minister in charge is always the one approached about subject matter. She said she contacted Mr. Fortier dozens of times and simply wanted him to say something to the effect of “this is outrageous and we will get to the bottom of it”. He completely ignored her. It would have been a great opportunity for Mr. Fortier to capitalize on this old scandal.
Anyway. I have the highest respect for Mrs. Tomlinson and don’t doubt her sincerity for a second.

  3. Brison is too busy to talk to CTV; what with writing hypocritical articles in the National Post. He actually has the gall to criticize floor crossers. He also states cabinet ministers must answer questions in the House. This from the Gumby of Canadian politics. You know, the one who deflected questions addressed to the PM and others into smear-laced non-answers. This guy should keep quiet about floor crossers and spin meisters.

  4. What amazes me is that Kathy Tomlinson, in finally reporting on this catalogue of abuses, never once uses the word “Liberal”. Not once.
It’s “Ottawa” and “Government” and a “Public Works Minister” who won’t talk to CTV.
He’s a Conservative, although she doesn’t use that word when she refers to him.

  5. i was so pissed off when i finally saw this story on the MSM. What a steeming pile this was. This story has been floating around in the blogosphere for what a month or more now?
I don’t know how long these abuses have been taking place but, i know it hasn’t all been in the last week! So why only seek Micheal Fortier for comment on this. Why not seek the former Liberal Public Works Minister who was responsible! Not once during the “reporting” of this story did i hear the word Liberal. If anything there seemed to be an inference that this was a new government problem. (showing Micheal Fortier dodging reporters, like its his fault)
The MSM media in this country has failed its veiwers once again. Must be hard in the media actually having to research ones own stories, i guess that why they keep stealing them from the blogs. I bet those wimps in the MSM must really miss the days when they could just sit in their offices and let the Liberals dictate todays news for them.

  6. not to worry dear friends. CTVtass and CBCpravda do listen to the bloggers . was it not a blogger that took out the newsanchor on the leftist station in the USA.
only a matter of time before PeterPansbridge, Kneel MacDonald ( the bowing liberal toady) and Craig ” the insolent “Oliver meet the same fate.
minimal entitlements if you are fired.

  7. “Brian – I posted a link to Craig’s post on this blog at the time, as did many others.”
Kate, yes you did. I was following up a week or two later and didn’t get a response then. As usual you were on top of things at the outset. 🙂
    Thanks,
    B.

  8. If I was an average voter, too busy with life to much much attention to things, I’d get the impression that it was the Conservatives living it up. SHAME on you Kathy for such shoddy work! Your piece lacked objectivity and direction. Thankfully, I DON’T need to depend on CTV for intelligent news. If this is an example of airing “whistleblower” news, good luck getting more stories. It had all the impact of a popcorn fart in a windstorm!

  9. Hope CTV has a lot of mops and buckets when ‘ole red fife’s head finally explodes from all the knowledge that he has received in the last 2 months.Poor old dear, you can almost hear the meltdown happening in his noodle..
too bad enlightenment doesn’t come in an easy to use applicator bottle as well….

  10. Isn’t election tampering illegal. Lets see, 1. Withholding info on Dingwalls payout, 2. Withholding story re relocation. What else was withheld, that would have produced a majority Conservative government. Today I heard on CBC that some 7 million in contracts (under Gigliano)sp are suspect from the Space Agency.
Funny how comments in the G&M, supporting Emerson and blasting Garth are not printed. Hasn’t the MSM caught on yet that those posting and not published shows that the news is controlled and only one side is being told. Harper and his ministers should stay out of sight and off the TV as they will only be misquoted, put in a bad light. Love the idea of protesting license renewals, when do they come up. Every time we see or hear biased reports we should all file a complaint with the CRTC. Who appoints the heads of CBC and CRTC. Firing them and giving them severance would be the best thing for free and honest reporting in Canada. Did anyone really miss the CBC when it was on strike. I thought they learned their lesson. And, Canada deserves the Gold Medal for ugliest uniforms at the Games.

  11. Have any of you ever dropped by a govt office or EI office to see the posting for Govt positions. Most of them are closed to anyone not already in the public service. Main requirement to apply is be earning a salary within a certain range, and then you can apply for a higher paying one. Main requirement is to fall into the salary range. Interviews are usually in a large city. So, a person from small town, or big city anywhere in Canada applies for a job in Ottawa, The Atlantic Province or elsewhere is accepted for an interview. Most of those applying can only manage to attend on a Thursday, with return on Sunday. Free weekend at our expense. Many look for postings that coincide with a family occassion in their home province. I know one man who the first day on the job applied for a higher position, got an interview and the job and immediately applied for another. In six months, without ever doing one days work he was head honcho in some dept in Ottawa. This should be stopped, if you don’t take a job offered you should be banned from applying for 12 months. Also interesting that many officers in small towns or cities can only get doctors or dental appointments on a Thurs, in a distant city, again another free weekend at our expense. Ask them about it and they say it is in their contract. Ban all govt unions. If offered the job and you refuse, all expenses should be repaid to the govt, maybe by the union. And, once you take the job, follow the rules, Don’t do today what you can postpone for a month, to appear busy. CYA at all times. Don’t complain or your out.
As for whisleblower, lets all e-mail with a story on the scandal of the media withholding stories detremental to the liberals, the medias bias in supporting govt sleaze, the refusal of Lib defeated ministers to answer questions on scandal in their dept. And, we demand with a change of government that all reporters, journalists, anchors, talking heads be replaced with government friendly persons. If nothing else we should be able to overload their server. I notice Susan Murray is no longer on Politics with Don Newman. Does she still have a job.

  12. It pretty sad when you try to keep up with the news only to find out that you need a required course”msm spin 101″Alot of us see it blatantly, what about our kids or people who just believe it to be true?I used to be one of them…but I’m recovered.
