The Morally Inferior Zerbisias

Glenn Reynolds comments on the latest ramblings of our own poor man’s Jeanine Garofalo

[A]ccording to some on the left, raising concerns about Muslim extremism, death threats, and censorship just proves that you’re — a right-wing extremist!
Antonia “Notice Me!” Zerbisias of the Toronto Star, — best known in the blogosphere for attributing an anonymous commenter’s remarks to blogger Stefan Sharkansky and making the bizarre claim that warbloggers have “fallen silent” — is now claiming that the whole thing is about Muslim-hating Westerners. Riiight.

Kathy Shaidle;

She — and remember, this is a salaried journalist at Canada’s largest paper, who, on every other issue, like allowing Al-Jazeera on Canadian tv, is all for free speech — explains that publishing the cartoons in North American papers “was not necessary to understanding the story. As many editors have explained, merely describing the cartoons is sufficient for making the point.”
What. A. Dumbass.
She goes on:

As for violence, I would guess that Muslims are more victims than perpetrators.
After all, when Irshad Manji published her controversial “The Trouble With Islam: A Wake Up Call for Honesty and Change” in 2003, no harm ever came to her despite so many again right-wing bloggers’ musings that it would. That said, their fears helped Manji move a lot of books around the world.

Well, maybe no harm came to her because, unlike Theo Van Gogh, she travels with a bodyguard, had her windows replaced with bullet proof glass, and so forth. This is the same sensitive Zerb who, while recently chiding a commentor on her blog for daring to use the “offensive” phrase “WASP”, once referred to Manji as a “professional lesbian.”

I liked her in World Police, though. Garofalo, I mean.

  1. I say it’s high time for a COMMIE PILE!
Let’s go over to Zorba’s blob, er blog, disguised as Ahmed and Muhammed thanking her for defending us against the infidel.
Don’t forget to remind her that when the 12th Imam arrives, her head goes first.

  2. Well I do note her comments in her blog are receiving no attention so I think her floowing is a bit weak on the ground.

  3. Zerb used to write about TV shows in the newspaper, somehow she managed to pussywhip the Toronto Red Star into letting her write about the real world. She hates all Americans and anything to do with the U.S.A. You might think it’s from watching all that TV for a living. If you can manage to wade through enough of her nonsense it will become obvious she is out on the lunatic fringe. She may have been born in Canada, but I suspect she is still fighting the Greek civil war fifty years later. Hey Zerb, the Greek communists lost, deal with it.

  4. A prominent Iranian newspaper said it was going to hold a competition for cartoons on the Holocaust in reaction to European newspapers recently republishing the prophet drawings. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the Mohammed drawings were an Israeli conspiracy motivated by anger over the victory of the radical Hamas group in last month’s Palestinian elections.

  5. Keep laughing- the Trudeau Star still has a huge influence here.(And the distorted crap that the Star continues to publish-daily- is the same that was used by the glibs in the latter part of the election!)

  6. She actually kissed Bill O’Reilly’s ass?
Even through her tears of anuguish?
What’s there left to do for a simpering commie bootlick anyway after a butchering by Bill?

  7. Hey, I get it. It’s day 2 of PMSH…so move along, nothing to see..accept all you are told.
After a day of jolts when people felt betrayed and then were told if can’t they play with the big boys then leave the CPC, the next move is to give them a common enemy to hate and go after.
Throw something shiny and bring in Doug the goon.
I hope people won’t fall for this or least quietly wait for harper’s strike 2.

  8. It sure was a busy weekend for Stephen Harper. First an Egyptian ferry sank in the Red Sea, drowning all 27,000 passengers. Not surprising when you consider that Harper’s exorbitant new budget calls for over $900 trillion in tax cuts for the rich, yet not a single dime for improving safety conditions on Egyptian passenger ferries. Meanwhile, the Muslim World exploded with perfectly understandable rage over a series of crude and offensive cartoons that Stephen Harper submitted to a Danish newspaper. And Goddess only knows what dirt the dirty Christian had on the Superdome officials to make them completely ignore the 75 homeruns the Seattle Seahawks made right under their very noses. I wouldnt be surprised if he was responsible for the drunken, face-painted barbarians who pulled down my pants and pushed me into the womyns restroom at the sports bar, too.

  9. it guess its a blessing our national government doesn’t have representation from COTU/Torrana. Zerb reps these psychos and prevents their mental disorder from infecting the Federal Cabinet.
All Muslim all Peace, all the time.
Except all the times they doing their fatwa thingy, stoning women to death, doing public beheadings, blowing up women & chilren in markets, churches and daycare centers and shooting anyone who they even think is gay or lesbian.
That’s when they are not producing racist TV shows or the Palestian version of Sesame Street that engourages 3 and 4 year old little boys & girls to want to wear suicide bomb belts and depict all non muslims as blood soaked animals.
Radical Muslim theology is NOT compatible with modern western Liberal democracy.
They must love the useful idiots like Zerb . . . helping theor cause.
I’m sure when they take over they plan to reward her with a less painful death, maybe a firing squad instead of a beheading that takes 10 swings with an old dull rusty sword.

  10. Gee, Steve, if you’re going to STEAL somebody elses’ material, you might at least want to give him the credit. Not only a troll, but a stupid troll, aren’t you ?

  11. It indeed looks like someone used your name, Steve, in which case I apologize to you. As for the troll, let me add Coward to his list of “attributes”.

  12. Well what do you know? The crusades have started again. The real sick part to me is not the lunatic reaction to some poor cartoons. It’s the pussyfooting reaction from some western governments. It does take a long time for many cultures to understand and accept individual freedom. Progress is always slowed by those who will not defend those freedoms. The reformation lasted a long hard time. The inquisition lasted far to long. We will not help people grow and understand different cultures and beliefs by giving in to bullying by masses of fools.

  13. “Morally inferior?” Who was it who headed an article, “Newsflash! Arabs are violent retards?” Give you one guess–it wasn’t Zerb.

  14. To me, Professor Reynolds calling her Fat Tony “Look At Me” Zerbisias says it all.
    She has a column.
    She has a blog.
    And few read them.

  15. Oh I just KNEW he’d show up!
Dawg, As I keep explaining to you, I wrote that post the day that 15 Saudi girls were herded back into a burning school because they weren’t wearing hijab. I was furious. And I don’t take it back.
If your response to that news wasn’t “Arabs are violent retards”, then you are a moral midget.
The day after the Montreal Massacre (actually, for years after the Montreal Massacre) when 15 women were killed by (Muslim) gunman, I heard equally harsh generalizations made about Canadian men by Canadian women, on the CBC, on the subway, at work. You have what to say about that, exactly? “Oh, but that’s different…?”
It is ok for people like you to say, “All Amerikkkans are gun toting, bible thumping fat people”, right??
Does it really bother you more that I called Arabs “violent retards” — than the indisputable fact that… millions of Arabs really are violent, rude, backward savages, a fact not even disputed by their “champion”, Lawrence of Arabia, who called them a silly, petty, violent people, wracked by tribalism and resentments that were keeping them from achieving greatness.(Visit MEMRI and read the Arab intellectuals who say the same thing about their own people.)
If so, that is really sad.
You like to throw around words like “racist” etc, as if they still actually mean something. But they only have currency for you and your ilk. It’s like trying to use Canadian Tire money at the 7/11–I just don’t recognize it, sorry. If it is OK for leftists to insist that “there is no such thing as race”, then I am just as able to insist that “there is no such thing as racism”. It has become an empty “curse word” — no thanks to people like you, who overuse it.
“I don’t accept your reality, and so I substitute my own…”
It is also sad to see someone like you taking out futile “fatwa insurance” in these forums (since nobody reads your blog). Do you really think radical Muslims will spare you? “Oh, that Dawg guy’s on the subway — don’t blow it up…”
Swallow your pride and join those of us defending women, art & literature, freedom of expression — all those things you liberals used to stand for.
Just as Muslims/Arabs are jealous that their achievements have been superceded by the West’s, so too liberals/leftists can’t stand it that we conservatives have stepped in to defend YOUR values, while you all bother yourselves with ridiculous, divisive identity politics and political correctness.

  16. Zerb shoud read the Dujke today . . .
    http://dukemcgoo.blogspot.com/
Except the Duke understates many of issues. In many cases they were out dancing in the streets in joyous rapture at the deaths of innocents.
Some morally equivalent society eh ?
Muslim outrage huh. OK … let’s do a little historical review. Just some lowlights:
    * Muslims fly commercial airliners into buildings in New York City. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslim officials block the exit where school girls are trying to escape a burning building because their faces were exposed. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslims cut off the heads of three teenaged girls on their way to school in Indonesia. A Christian school. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslims murder teachers trying to teach Muslim children in Iraq. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslims murder over 80 tourists with car bombs outside cafes and hotels in Egypt. No Muslim outrage.
    * A Muslim attacks a missionary children’s school in India. Kills six. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslims slaughter hundreds of children and teachers in Beslan, Russia. Muslims shoot children in the back. No Muslim outrage.
    * Let’s go way back. Muslims kidnap and kill athletes at the Munich Summer Olympics. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslims fire rocket-propelled grenades into schools full of children in Israel. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslims murder more than 50 commuters in attacks on London subways and busses. Over 700 are injured. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslims massacre dozens of innocents at a Passover Seder. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslims murder innocent vacationers in Bali. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslim newspapers publish anti-Semitic cartoons. No Muslim outrage
    * Muslims are involved, on one side or the other, in almost every one of the 125+ shooting wars around the world. No Muslim outrage.
    * Muslims beat the charred bodies of Western civilians with their shoes, then hang them from a bridge. No Muslim outrage.
    * Newspapers in Denmark and Norway publish cartoons depicting Mohammed. Muslims are outraged.
Dead children. Dead tourists. Dead teachers. Dead doctors and nurses. Death, destruction and mayhem around the world at the hands of Muslims .. no Muslim outrage … but publish a cartoon depicting Mohammed with a bomb in his turban and all hell breaks loose.
Come on, is this really about cartoons? They’re rampaging and burning flags. They’re looking for Europeans to kidnap. They’re threatening innkeepers and generally raising holy Muslim hell not because of any outrage over a cartoon. They’re outraged because it is part of the Islamic jihadist culture to be outraged. You don’t really need a reason. You just need an excuse. Wandering around, destroying property, murdering children, firing guns into the air and feigning outrage over the slightest perceived insult is to a jihadist what tailgating is to a Steeler’s fan.
I know and understand that these bloodthirsty murderers do not represent the majority of the world’s Muslims. When, though, do they become outraged? When do they take to the streets to express their outrage at the radicals who are making their religion the object of worldwide hatred and ridicule? Islamic writer Salman Rushdie wrote of these silent Muslims in a New York Times article three years ago. “As their ancient, deeply civilized culture of love, art and philosophical reflection is hijacked by paranoiacs, racists, liars, male supremacists, tyrants, fanatics and violence junkies, why are they not screaming?”
    Indeed. Why not?

  17. Maybe the next time one of our great mainstream media outlets publishes something offensive to Christians we should all get together, have a riot, torch a few buildings and threaten everyone who isn’t a Christian with be-heading and see if the Zerb and all the morally superior lefties, step up to defend us, I don’t think they will but you can never tell. By the way can anyone point me to a site where I can view the moral outrage of the left over the Piss Christ exhibt?

  18. 1) The Saudi Arabian religious police who herded the girls back into the burning schoolhouse were (uncharacteristically) condemned even in the Saudi press. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/1874471.stm) To generalize from a few mutaween to the entire Arab population is, yup, racist, all right. You move so easily from religion to ethnicity, don’t you?
    2) Marc Lepine was born in Canada and was not Muslim. We don’t even have any evidence that his Algerian father was a Muslim, at least not a practising one–and Lepine left his father’s house at the age of seven. But accuracy was never your strong point.
    3) Some people, at least, must be reading my blog. I get a modest 1,500 hits or so per month, not bad for being in the blogosphere all of seven months.
    4) I am not a liberal.
    Thanks for playing, though.

  19. * If I move easily from religion to ethnicity, it is only because those violent retarded A-rabs make it so easy. The fact that the Saudi press deigned to condemn the murders (my, how mighty white of em) says less to me than the fact that _the murders happened there in the first place_.
    * The wonderful world of “Marc Lepine”:
    http://www.macleans.ca/culture/books/article.jsp?content=20060109_118922_118922
    * Lots of Muslims are born in Canada (she said without further comment…)
    * Not a liberal, just an incredible simulation!
    * I get 40,000+ uniques a month after 5.5 years. We big people measure uniques, not hits. Thanks for trying, though.

  20. Whoa!!!! Kathy is on a roll. Pity the fool that dares to respond. Oh and Kathy, I’m on your side. Valid arguments all.

  21. Get back to me in 5 years, Kathy. Until then, stop boasting. Anyone can set up a web-ring echo-chamber.
You ducked the issue of generalizing from a few religious cops to Arabs as a whole. Evasion, as they say, noted.
I notice you also ducked the question of Marc Lepine’s alleged Muslimism. Yes, plenty of Muslims are born in Canada, but not to French-Canadian mothers who have taken them from abusive fathers at age seven.
As for “old hoss” — very impressive bit of homophobia there. Projection…?

  22. Dawg, Lepine’s real name is Gamil Rodrique Gharbi, why not use it? My real name is Greg Grandy, Kathy and Kate use their real names, why don’t you use your real name for a change? I paid a visit to your site, still no name. Are you really a Doctor? Guess not. By the way does my visit to your site count? And one more thing can anyone tell me where the nation of Islam is located?

  23. By the way Dawg the last comment/question was not directed at you, just that if anyone decides to invade my nation I may have something to say about it.

  24. “Dawg, Lepine’s real name is Gamil Rodrique Gharbi, why not use it?”
Actually, you’re wrong. He changed his name to Marc Lepine in his teens.
“My real name is Greg Grandy, Kathy and Kate use their real names, why don’t you use your real name for a change?”
Dr. Dawg is a nom-de-plume, not a disguise. It’s childishly simple to get my real name–even Anonalogue figured it out, so it doesn’t take genius. (Why not go after the legions of rightists here who use aliases, by the way? That old double standard, I guess.)
Incidentally, “The Nation of Islam” is located in the US.

  25. So why not use your real name? Gamil changed his name because he was ashamed of his father, but his real name is is still Gamil. I know people with the last name of mass murders, they haven’t rushed out to change their names, nor do they use nom-de-plumes. As for the legion of rightists who use aliases, I hold them in the same esteem as I do protesters who insist on wearing stupid bags on their heads. You are not a doctor so why not use just the nom-de-plume Dawg instead and show a bit of respect to those who spend years studing becoming real doctors.

  26. All muslim suicide bombers should be sprayed with pig pee before burial. Muslims create fear with their killings, mutilations, rapes. etc, etc. Those who are subjected to muslim terror should threaten to spray pig guts all over muslim lands unless muslims grow up. Mecca would be an appropriate target or even the dome of the rock.

  27. Well, Greg, I don’t wave credentials around, unlike some, so you’ll just have to do a little digging.
“Dr. Dawg” is just me having fun, which is what blogging is for me. You want my real name? Maybe Kate will give it to you by email if you’re that lacking in rudimentary sleuthing skills. I am adopted, by the way, but my legal name is that of my adoptive parents. Seems to me you want “Marc” to be “Gamil” to satisfy some assumption or other.
Mark: The limits of Dar-ul-Islam? I guess that depends upon which Muslim you consult. There are Christians, too, who want the whole world to be Christian. So what?

  28. Greg, maybe you could get back on topic and quit yapping at his heels.
The name thing is weird. I would expect it from guys named Greg, or Brian or Bruce. Flat names.

  29. Sooner or later, that odd deflection of “why don’t you use your real name” comes up…usually when actual arguments aren’t working.
I mean, you’d have to be insane to give bilious and conniving harridans and their familiars your real name, especially if you plan on challenging them. Eventually, they’ll post your cell-phone number or something, out of pure spite.
Maybe I’ll make one up a real name some day, just to have that boring question put to rest.

  30. Truth sayer you really are a friggin’ idiot go somewhere else. Thanks Dawg for the nation of islam tip. More friggin’idiots.

  31. Your right steve I should get a real stong name like steve. It’s my name I’ll use it and not hide behind an alias. But you are right about off topic. mea culpa.

  32. Generosity, Tolerance, Kindness, Forgiveness, Humility, Honesty, and Integrity. These, I believe are the seven tenants of Islam as told to me by a muslin co-worker many years ago. If you look around most if not all valid religions preach some if not all these things so what’s up with the extremists? Probably the same thing that lets Catholics and Protestants have at each other in Ireland for centuries, Sikhs trying to blow up Hindus and the list goes on. All in the name of religion. go figure, eh.
So why doesn’t the mainstream muslim express outrage at the atrosities committed in the name of islam, I don’t know. Maybe it is like a crazy Uncle Earnie, he’s crazy but he is family.

  33. As for “old hoss” — very impressive bit of homophobia there. Projection…?
Sorry, I had no idea you have that disorienting affliction.

  34. Kathy/RelapsedCatholic is one of my heroes.
Zerb drives me insane – after 9/11, before I cancelled my subscription to the Star, I would read the paper in the morning and then have to ignore my kids, husband, getting breakfast, preparing lunches, just to write a letter to the editor. Many times it was in response to some outrageous position Zerb was pushing – she is absolutely misinformed about Israel and, not surprisingly, a big pal of Kneel MacDonald.
For an excellent analysis of the Montreal massacre – see the Mark Steyn article in Macleans (sorry can’t find the link).
This whole cartoon thing has just made a lot more people “get it”. Most Europeans, Canadians, Americans, etc. had no idea of the incredible vile and hate which is published daily, hourly, in the Arab/Muslim press about Jews and Christians/Americans. Today the Post had a full page of their anti-Jew/anti-American bilge that I’m sure will be an eye-opener for the average Canadian. Unless you see it you can’t believe it. When I told my brothers that the Saudis were pushing the blood libel about Jews using the blood of non-Jews for their pastries, my brothers accused me of making it up or reading too much of the “Zionist press”. They are unfortunately very ill with liberalism, and are Jews of the Noam Chomsky/Naomi Klein variety.
And my real name is Brenda.

  35. And my name is Tim L. and I’m on the right side.
Jesus said to fish out of the right side of the boat.

  36. Some self described “immigrant with annoying views” smeared: “Dr. Dawg is a nom-de-plume, not a disguise. It’s childishly simple to get my real name–even Anonalogue figured it out, so it doesn’t take genius”
Apparently, it does, says the guy who’s cognitive skills are so rare that a dotcom startup once paid a five figure headunting fee for his scarce talent. Being a ten year subscriber to Frank and being a fellow travel – oops, I mean Bytonian – did help add context to what I found out, though. Let sleeping dogs lie, Dawg 😉
