A request from Rosa Kim, a TV producer at The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos on the CBC that I’ve agreed to pass along…
I’m searching for Canadian Conservatives to be part of our live audience during our election night coverage on Monday, the 23rd. I’m looking for people who are voting for Stephen Harper but not associated in any way with the party and I was wondering if through your blog you know of anyone I should speak to?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I believe the show is filmed in Toronto. Her email is Rosa_Kim@CBC.CA
Don’t spam her with crap, please. We complain about not having a voice on the CBC. Here’s a small opportunty.

Sorry, none available. We’ll be busy all evening getting our vote out. 🙂
I nominate Wonder Woman. I’m sure she’d love a few minutes on the CBC. We might have to take up a collection for bail money after the show though!
If it was any network other than the CBC, I would even fly down there and pay my own expenses!!!!! But I too am busy that night!!!!!!
I wonder if Canadianna is in Toronto? I’m pretty sure she is, I’ll send her the link.
About two seconds of that George is all I can take.
I nominate Belinda Stronach – she said she was a conservative but now has no ties to the conservative party. But she does bake a bigger pie.
I take it from that fact she has to ask that Conservative voters aren’t a demographic group that exists within the CBC’s network of contacts and sources. I’d go, but I plan on being at a beer and popcorn party that night with a bunch of Conservative voters.
I would be wary of any of the GTA’S “cutting edge”
programs.George might come across as an open minded fellow, but you don’t get tv shows on pravda(TM) without having the idealogical bent required.
Does anyone remember the ambush Avi Lewis, hip Toronto gadabout laid on Preston Manning a few years ago? That was a similiar premise..
Its all about the ugly girl being invited to the prom by the captain of the football team, the purpose is to be ridiculed,as publicly as possible..
If I lived in Torontoland I’d do it….but I’m way out west. Kate maybe you should volunteer, just a thought. Atleast if you did we’d know that an intelligent voice was representing us common folk.
Randy
PS. I think I’m going to have a huge election hangover on the 24th. I’ve become addicted to reading all the antics that have been going on. On the other hand maybe it’ll just get better.
They should put a computer in the audience, with Blogging Tories on the screen.
Are Liberals going to show up for the program? Are they going to be wearing paper bags over their heads?
Pass. George and Scott Brison can take a steam together and discuss future employment opportunities.
Not a good night to be in the enemies camp.
I smell a typical CBC “townhall” ambush…I’d love to oblige but I’m working the phones that night for my CPC candidate 😉
“George might come across as an open minded fellow”
-not here, he doesn’t. I see a highly ritualized, uberironic hipster nihilist: the youth culture as nothingness defended by a generally resentful tone of self-righteousness. But that’s “just my opinion”.
“highly ritualized, uberironic hipster nihilist”
Topiary, I think he’d like to put that description on his business card.
I gave her your name as a contact. Thank you for posting it.
Tomorrow night, if all goes well in the studio, I will be in “The Hour” giving my political commentary. For a very differently packaged Conservative point of view, please tune in.
I’m so not busy on Monday…so a collection for bail money, you say? Not a bad idea…
😉
K gets it right. Down with the CBC. >>>
Warren Kinsella on Keith Boag’s future on the Hill
Jan 16, 2006
(admin: bold type added!)
Warren’s “speculation, based upon (his) own biases, and also discussions with Liberal, Tory and NDP pals” is as follows:
CBC Television Like the Star (and unlike CBC Radios national office and the Don Newman group), the CBCs Ottawa English news bureau has become so egregiously, effusively pro-Martin that it should have been declared as a leadership campaign expense. Every political assistant, MP and Minister knew about the regular phone calls between a certain lobby firm and the likes of Peter Mansbridge and Keith Boag to complain about stories, to manipulate coverage, to chastise certain reporters (ask Mark Kelley or Terry Milewski). Among the Tories, Grits and Dippers I know, there is a wide consensus that Boag will now be lucky to get his calls returned, let alone receive a perfunctory hello in Parliaments hallways. Someone of Milewskis stature would be a huge asset, but if what I have heard about a scalding email now making the rounds is true he has no interest in joining the weakest CBC-TV Ottawa bureau in decades. As one wag recently told me: Even CBC Radios Promo Girl would do a better job than Boag. >>

Go on TV and admit to being a Consverative? In Toronto. Trying to get me fired and shunned or what?
nazz rune,
Sometimes i feel i shouldn’t use such tough language on the kids. But think about it, why do they want Harper voters to talk, but not people associated with the party? You know, just “ordinary Canadians”. It’s one thing to have queer ideas or resentmetns that might lead you to vote against Pauly and not go NDP; it’s quite another to actually be involved, organizationally. In other words, it’s ok to have funny opinions, quite another to actually believe in something/want political favours that you join up: that’s why I say they are nihilists.
Rosa does not know any conservatives? What kind of diversity program do they run at the CBC?
A Conservative Pundit…
On CBC…
In Toronto?…
On election night…
Without guns?…
Rather than the King of Cool that he’s styled to be, I find George more the Smug Sovereign of the CBC. What a hostile environment for a CPC supporter.
and why is the Liberal Party o’ Candahar soliciting the PCO for PARTY funds? are the Libranos so broke they have sunk to threatening employees?
Just how far in the back will they make us sit?
George Stroumboulopoulos is another typical “hip” type CBC clone, full of leftist zeal in attacking anything contrary to the liberal vision. I have watched his “the hour” show when it first aired advertised as being topical and upbeat. It didn’t take long to realize he was just another spin miester spending our tax dollars at the Corpse. Sorry to say, not, that I will partaking in some beer and popcorn on the night in question.
Is George going to sniff everyones ass at the door to determine if they are Conservative,Liberal,NDP or just trolls?
kelly…
what would you do if your job was threatened ???
Kate , after 20 +years of propaganda from CBCpravda , we do not trust them.
The idea of value-free journalists simply presenting the disparate values of Canadians is fraudulent from the get go, because in order to be “value free” the journalist must detach their accounting of our values – making our values into so many individual fancies, “economic (etc.) interests”, or atavistic forces – from their history and ongoing role in the construction of one kind of social order, and not another. My values entail a vision of the Canadian nation and state and this is inherent in everything I say or do. I would never pretend to be value free and any journalist giving a “value free” accounting of my position would be a fraud, or at least a nihilist, someone pretending to speak from nowhere in relation to my somewhere. Of course, most CBC journalists don’t actually do this: they have values and this shows in everything they do.
But the tendency to nihilism or gnosticism, especially in a youngster like George, is inevitable because CBC types must have some such fraudulent pretense to being value free, whether individually or organizationally (“we try to be diverse”) This is why we should eventually retire the CBC – to save the Georges and their followers – and let there emerge a freer market in the values by which we recognize and construct our nation. This free market exchange need not preclude standards of professionalism that draw on pre-political values, those values on which politics became dependent in the first place – e.g. a willingness to share words together, to pursue the sacred truth, without first violence.
Its quiet tonight. Too quiet. Somethins a brewin’.

Thought of Liberals
Uh, no. Conservatives need not participate in a CBC “Town Hall” considering what the right has done without their aid.
In the U.S., the right – and I’m not speaking of George Bush and the Republicans, but the true right leaning citizens that vote for the best option they have available – has all but ignored what the mainstream media does or does not do. They’ve counted on talk radio, Internet blogs and “Western Standard” type publications to propogate their advantage.
Conservatives should ignore the CBC as far as being a part of their “objective” Town Halls. Finally, we have come to realize there is no such animal.
Well, I have a CPC membership, so that probably rules me out. Besides, I’ll probably be helping out that day (scrutineering, possibly) and then enjoying a victory party that night for my local candidate. Sure hope someone remembers to bring the beer and popcorn! 😀
Long time reader, first time writer.A little O/T, but I live in the High Park area, and for the first time ever, I almost have to vote NDP, because there is so little conservative support, and we have to get rid of Bulte…. think I have to go NDP…BLAH……
First guy I’d fire at CBC is Strombopolous, he’s a weasel; next that petty little Kathleen Petty, then of course Mansbridge, LaaPhlegm etc. I think I’d clean house.
Hmm, I was afraid there were no Small Dead Torontonians, and this seems to be confirming it. Dang.
I think Harper should have avoided going on the CBC Townhall altogether. The CBC makes a pretense of objectivity, but that’s all it is, a pretense. There is no need for Harper to also pretend that the CBC is objective.
This can only end badly.
Somebody watches the CBC???
Don’t bite! The CBC does this every year, yet Conservative type people are NEVER allowed to ask the questions. If you think the questions are “spontaneous” think again. People are screened in advance, and only those approved are allowed up to the mike. All the CBC wants is to have the appearance that they’re “fair” and “balanced”, so they recruit a few right wingers into the audience who will look p***ed off when all the lefties get all the time. I know, because I’ve been at one of these CBC events. IT’S A FARCE!!
There’s a hockey game on that night too.Sens vs Leafs.Tories and Sens Kicking butt on Toronto.I sense a parade!
I was also asked if I was had actively campaigned for the conservatives. What exactly does that mean? I’ve given my opinion on radio and TV. I have not visited the riding office or distributed leaflets.
I have no official duties from the party itself. But if I did, why would being involved preclude me from going onto our taxpayer funded TV station? Something really doesn’t seem right about this.
Maybe it’s because when the Liberals send in “random” members, they turn out to be highly paid spin doctors. But even so, if you join a party, and actually give a damn about the direction of the country, they don’t want to hear from you. That seems a violation of freedom of speech. Wait a minute, I’m confusing Canada and the US again, Canada doesn’t have free speech.
Rob:
I’m on the other side: As a Leaf fan I’ll be watching the Leafs get thumped on Saturday and then again on Monday, or at least up until election coverage starts – I hope at that time to put 6 periods of misery behind me and move on to some satisfying election viewing.
I forgot to mention that I miss Patrick Lalime.
I’ll volunteer.
It’s a ten minute walk to Pravda HQ.
Okay, if it is like the same-sex marriage promotional exercise, CBC will stick those conservatives willing to participate in a small dark room in the basement of the broadcasting centre.
They will then stick a single “scared” log-cabin conservative in a separate room with a sub-tag “SCARED CONSERVATIVE.”
The CBC host and reporters will be in a well lit, expensively decorated space cavorting with Liberal and NDP voters discussing how great it is that Canadians can get along so well like this.
CBC – democracy inaction.
Oh yeah, i forgot to mention that CBC will nominate itself for (and win) an “election coverage” award from a state supported award program.
Was watching CBC news yesterday at noon (only to test sure my high blood pressure pills are working and I don’t stroke). You can add Julie Vandunsen to that list of CBC reports to fire. Her commentary yesterday kept referring to the conservatives as the “Reform/Alliance/Conservative Party”.
What a total waste of tax payer dollars, to air such a biased and one sided report. I hope Harper does an good job, of deflecting what’s going to be, a pro left wing slander tonight.
“Once More into the Breach Dear Friends , Once More”
Good luck tonight on Pravda Mr. Harper, you are in the midst of the enemy camp.
Can’t go election night, but I’d love to go see the gutting of CBC the next day.
What this would really need is someone there, with a Blackberry, and a couple of good people outside to send in some pointers and hints..
It’s very difficult to remember all the good points when you are under the sort of stress that appearing at this type of ‘Town-Hall’ meeting would entail.
You know, “Stress: the emotions you feel restraining yourself from choking the daylights out of the asshole you are dealing with….”
