MONTREAL – A gay man who was called a “fifi” by a used car salesman has been awarded $1,000 by Quebec’s Human Rights Tribunal. The man’s name can’t be revealed because of a publication ban. The man told the judge he felt dehumanized, humiliated and degraded by the comment, which happened in November 2001 at Roger Poirier Automobile in Sorel, about 70 kilometres northeast of Montreal. The salesman, Marcel Bardier, used “discriminatory words in regard to [the complainant], by revealing his sexual orientation in hurtful and vexatious terms,” wrote Judge Michele Pauze in her decision, according to the Montreal Gazette….>>> freerepublic.com

  2. Mon Dieu! Sacre Bleu! A corrupt Liberal? C’est impossible!! Eeet mus’ be a Conservateur plante!

  3. They make a cute couple, why shoudn’t we blow a few hundred thousand or a few million so they can be happy. Its not your money, its the government’s money, so they should be able to spend it anyway they wish.

  4. The Lux-Bar – it’s on rue Lepic, one street over, just around the corner from Pettigrew’s Paris apartment. So- that’s where they were – at his apartment.

  5. Oh my God – a minister having lunch with his chauffeur in Paris. How dare he stop and eat lunch. He should work 16 hours a day without food, sleep 8 and then repeat the cycle. I mean no conservative minister would ever stop at a cafe in Paris and have a coffee and some food. Never! They would go to the nearest McDonald’s and have a McPoulet!
Seriously – what is the complaint? That he had lunch? That it was at a cafe? Or that he is a Liberal?

the problem PPeter, is because he is supposed to be in OTTAWA, doing his JOB, which is what we (taxpayers) pay him to do
Instead he flys himself and his “friend” to Paris, where they go off the grid, on vacation so to speak and send the BILL TO US . . . I know . his office says he is working and on top of all teh cases etc etc etc . Bullshit
Its not because he is a Liberal, it is because he is a useless spendthrift.
But being Liberal helps . . just ask Ding-Dongwall, or Radwanski, Joe “Pizza-Man” Volpe
or Pelletier or the thousands of other Liberals-at-the-trough that haven’t been caught yet.

  7. Peter: I don’t think there has yet been a Conservative minister with a pied terre in Gay Paree.
One wonders where the money comes from.

  8. An interesting thought…Paul Martin offers $300,000 to India to help with relief efforts and it’s still $200,000 short of Dingwalls’ suggested (it’s the law) severence pay.

  9. Separate tables then they get separate receipts, add on a few zeros voila $750,00 expense account.

  10. The complaint Peter is that tax dollars were wasted to bring someone (ie a chauffer that according to reports was not required) to Paris on what was obviously a swan.

Sorry about the typo, I wanted to get this one straight. Did I say straight? Hardly applies!

That’s the point – his chauffeur. It’s a long drive from Ottawa to Paris, maybe that’s why his chauffeur is resting.
I may forgive Pettigrew if he at least took off to Paris to screw his mistress – that I can understand, but his chauffeur doesn’t need a Paris vacation at my expense.

  13. Paid by whom?
Pettigrew chauffeur is on paid leave
    Montreal Gazette, Canada – 7 Oct 2005
… Theberge refused to disclose the nature of the personal problem that prompted Labonte to apply for leave from his roughly $46,000-a-year job. …

…Under the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations, the host country is responsible for the safety of diplomats and foreigners on official business, like heads of state and political delegations. Dignitaries visiting Canada are under the special watch of the RCMP…

  15. Let’s not get confused now.
    There are two issues here.
First one: Pierre Pettigrew is a Minister of the Crown. If he has a valid reason for it – even if it’s not one you or I might agree with – he is perfectly entitled to travel to Paris at taxpayer expense to conduct business on behalf of Canada. And as long as he follows the Treasury Board (TB) guidelines for this activity, it’s perfectly legal.
    So get over it.
It’s the second issue I find very dodgy: bringing his chauffeur to Paris with him. I really doubt that actually meets TB guidelines and, if it did, I’d be very intrigued to read the justification.
It couldn’t be because he needed a driver; the Canadian Embassy in Paris would have a number of drivers and vehicles available.
And a driver and vehicle certainly WOULD BE made available for a senior minister like Pettigrew.
    Interesting, to say the least.

  16. Grandinite thinks Bruno is/was (?) a “two-fer”(sic) for PP. >>>
Lets give Pettigrew the benefit of the doubt. First of all, IF by personal security expert Pettigrew is referring to Labontes knowledge of how to ensure his personal safety and manage a team of bodyguards, then it makes complete sense to have Labonte as a full-time adviser to ensure the Ministers safety. It also makes sense if Labonte is or has had intelligence experience to have him as a chauffer. Global leaders dont hire drivers, but tactical drivers. These guys take intense driving courses to learn how to out-manouvre a limo when being attacked. When Labonte isnt managing personal security, hes driving. Hes a two-fer. >>> more

  17. I wonder how often Mr. Labonte needed to refer to a map of Paris when strategizing the best back-street to take when he needed to out-manoeuvre all those reporters following them to the cafe?

  20. Peter Peter Peter that post at Duke is so typical of the left wing since when did personal apperance have anything to do with intelligence. That single post has negated any relivance you might have in this discussion. So any person who dresses differently from you must not be as well informed or intelligent as you .You are typical of the elitist attitude most Liberals hold toward anyone who holds a different opinion than yours.
