Good News From Iraq Continues

Arthur Chrenkoff is signing off. A step up the professional ladder requires that he discontinue blogging.
Few other bloggers have achieved what Arthur has, in almost single-handedly bringing balance and context to the greater progress being made in both Iraq and Afghanistan. If you have been framing your opinion on post-war Iraq through the lens of the mainstream media, you owe it to yourself to read Arthur’s final installment of good news. You’ll be astonished at how much there is. If you search the archives, how much there has been in all these months of car-bomb-a-day reporting from the “green zone”.
The good news is that the series will continue – the team at Winds of Change has taken up the torch, and have established a new site devoted to the series, titled Good News From The Front.

  1. MEMRI: The Arabs Must Choose Between Western Civilization and the Legacy of the Middle Ages
“The Arabs Don’t Understand that the World Has Changed
Al-Houni begins his treatise by explaining that he intends to present a different viewpoint from the nationalist, conspiracy-based viewpoint currently prevalent in the Arab world, which maintains that nothing has changed in the world since the end of the Cold War or since 9/11. Al-Houni, who believes that American strategy has changed completely, seeks to present this change to the Arab world, which, he claims, suffers from a number of fundamental flaws, to which he points in his introduction.
Al-Houni asserts that there are various responses to the issues that concern the Arab and Muslim world, and that Arabs should not accuse those amongst them whose opinion is different of apostasy and treason. He writes: “The popular Arab political discourse today has only two ideological [extremes]…>>> more> link from newsbeat1

BTW, MEMRI translates from Arabic to English.

  2. Yeh, there’s a lot of good news coming out of Iraq, but you would never know it listening or reading the Bush-hating MSM. After all ‘Chimpy’ is the worst President of the worst country ever, right?
For a great close-up view of US soldiers on the streets of Iraq check out this posting – ***warning*** explicit action photos – i.e. blood & gore!

How Poland came to say “Non” to France and hitch up with America
The most historic shift in Poland’s international orientation in a half a millennium has been taking place in recent times. A staunch Atlanticist, a faithful ally both in the war on terror and in Iraq, and one of the few countries in the world that names streets and public squares after right-wing American presidents, it’s hard to imagine that until quite recently – in historic terms – of all the Western states, Poland was most closely associated and allied with France…. more

  4. Good link, Slim – it shows what real heros are doing in Iraq right now.
I’m amazed constantly at the attitudes of some people I work with. They are generally thoughtful and intelligent but when it comes to Iraq all they can do is parrot “No WMD’s…Bush is an idiot…No WMD’s”.
I don’t know how the lefties did it but they’ve managed to implant really good brain wave modulators in those people’s minds for the purpose of inciting hatred against those that use words like “defend”, “protect”, “justice”, “terrorist”, “freedom” and “democracy”.
Thanks to all those individuals that have made many efforts to balance out the information coming out of Iraq. Their continued voices are an antidote to counteract those lefty brain wave modulators and show the extent of sacrifices made by Coalition and Iraqi forces for the pursuit of higher ideals and the establishment of a free nation.

  5. Chrenkoff’s blog has been fabulous.
What is interesting as well, is the ‘continuity’ of blogs. That is, if one compares with the MSM, you have individual journalists writing THEIR perspective in a ‘top-down’ manner; you don’t interact with them. A blog functions as a community of interaction. Even without comments, it is an open discussion because it is linked with other sites.
One blogger may ‘retire’ but, the discussion, the work of information-gathering and knowledge-development doesn’t stop. Others take it up. What matters is the knowledge.
That’s what is so impressive about blogs – their location within a ‘community of information-gatherers’.
Speaking of ‘passing the torch’, there’s a nice website run by a series of commanders in Iraq; they gather school supplies for children in Iraq. They’ve had at least three different Majors heading the site..as command passes from person to person.
I’ve sent boxes – I think it matters to the people and the children of Iraq to show that we care.
