Partying Liberals were treated Thursday night to the incredible sight of Belinda Stronach, Canada’s new human resources minister, and Tim Murphy, the Prime Minister’s chief of staff, dancing atop a speaker at an Ottawa bar. The tune? “Material Girl,” by Madonna. The lyrics to that song include these memorable, and some would say fitting, words: “Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me, I think they’re OK, If they don’t give me proper credit, I just walk away. They can beg and they can plead, But they can’t see the light. That’s right, ‘Cause the boy with the cold hard cash is always Mr. Right.”
When asked for reaction, Liberal members present at the bash responded stiffly.

Unlike the guys in Mission Impossible, if caught in the act Martin will not disavow any knowledge of their existence. He will however, use our money to pay their legal bills.
Which brings up a pet peeve of mine from way back. I believe that when a politician or political operative has been caught and charged they should pay ALL legal bills if convicted. Unlike Mr. Blake/Baretta, if you do the crime you do the time.
I learned about it on AC’s post, SJ. Not sure if it’s anywhere else. Somebody here will know…
Coyne suspended all comments. I didn’t read the last 50 comments where the Clark conspiracy was being discussed. We’ll have to ask the infamous BrianW. Brian had been warned before by Coyne, so it is possible.
The RCMP is muzzled; the judiciary is in the pocket of the Liberal/Martin regime; Freedom of the Press is dead.
The justice system has been subverted. Corruption is rampant in Canada.
Where is AC Coyne? Where is Small Dead Animals?
Fear prevails.
Tyranny is alive and well in Canada. Tyranny reigns.
Do we, or do we not, have freedom of speech in Canada?
Do we have the right, and the power, to criticize and analyze? That includes commentary on blogs.
What am I missing?
MAZ2 et al:
Maybe we should all move to communist China or North Korea, I hear it’s less repressive over there…
“Mr. Murphy has retained legal counsel and will be pursuing a libel action against Andrew Coyne of the National Post, and is also considering a potential claim against Gilles Duceppe.”

This is the only reference I found. Commentors on ACs blog did not mention the source (unless I missed that one comment).
ET:
They’ve already started to crack down on blogs in BC during elections. Check this out:

Just an extension of the Liberals infamous muzzling of third party advertising during elections. Wouldn’t do to have the riff raff expressing their opinion, would it?
The Libs would then have to steal more taxpayer money to counter it. As PM would say: “Clearly, it’s all very, very messy.”
I guess the operative words are ” … will be pursuing…”
I’m not a lawyer, is this then just a threat?
Clark as a GG would be the last straw for the west….never has there been a more universally hated politician….for his sell out of the west and his sellout of western conservatives.
Clearthinker, the advantage of announcing in future tense is the potential collateral damage that can be done – sabre rattling to silence all other dissent.
Things are much worse than I thought.
On a positive note, the Liberals now have Belinda. I can think of no better leader for the Liberal Party than her.
Any good lawyer avoids court like the plague…so yes you start by pulling back your coat and revealing your “piece” so the other guy knows your packing.
Yes Mr Murphy just pulled back his coat…., he may have only patted his coat and said “you may want to rethink you words, coyne”
So yes first step is threaten….the next step would be a letter from his lawyer issuing a complaint and threatening t file claim should his issues not be addressed….Only after that would he file suit.
What a distraction…what a mistake…if AC could handle the hassle and could handle the fees then I would call their bluff…the bigger threat is the fees your own lawyers charge you. Hence why Mr Murphy should be paying out of his own poscket OR the Liberal Party should pay…of course if its the latter I am sure some lawyer would volunteer and would be paid with a judgeship down the road…..insidious….
Stephen, don’t you think that a Party so determined to cling to power would have ensured long ago that the public purse is available for legal fees? I have no specific knowledge thereof, but it will be no surprise to me to learn that our money could be used to harass a dissenting journalist that has been loudly defending our freedom, and our democracy.
Unable to read the partying gliberal link without registering with Toronto Star. Considering that the last time they left a freebie newspaper on my doorstep, I called them and told them to come back and get it, or I would stuff it up their,( a place where the sun don’t shine). Too bad- information is POWER, and it don’t really matter where you get that.
Shaken:
See the earlier posts herein, which speak of exactly that.
I for one, would donate to AC’s defense fund if he required one. It’s passing strange though, that nothing has been recently forthcoming from a man who knows that we follow his columns religiously and whose site traffic count has hit the stratosphere in this past week.
On another note, I was surfing this am and came across an excellent article by a lifelong liberal democrat in San Francisco who has finally seen the light. I realize it has more of a US context, but the underlying reasons for his “defection” ring all too true for those of us here in Canuckistan. Check it out if you have time:

There is a reason why we have parliaments and courts…The original reason was to protect individuals from the omnipotent and coercive power of the state. The state acts in the name of all, and by its very nature holds the ultimate trump cards, removal of freedom (i.e. jail)
This was never to be for the protection of the powerful and the elite but the other way around. Up has become down in this country. It must stop.
The state acts in all of our names hence it must be deliberative and must follow process, how much history has been made and much blood has been shed for this very small but very important point?
My last missle is reserved for the Globe and Mail. Should Mr. Coyne be under threat then where is the great Globe and Mail and its wonderful Masthead that it so proudly declares. “The subject who is truly loyal to the Cheif Magistrate will neither advise nor submit to arbitrary measures” – Junius
Time to live up to the your words your predecessors did Mr Greenspon….
As I said earlier, I hope Andrew didn’t have an “accident” starting his car, like our friend Mr. Morselli…
So allegedly Moreselli has said he has info that doesnt involve the Lib party….who is the target
(old PC’s (mr Roy), the PQ?, the current CPC’s)
And FINALLY, we are getting Kroll Lindquist this week. All early reports are that it is worth waiting for…finally some FACTS and not various charges between one hack and another.
None of this has anything to do with the Belinda thread but looking forward to the news later this week. Of course it will come out AFTER the budhget vote and after the Newfoudland by election….oops almost put my tin foil hat on there for a second :->
The threat of a lawsuit was in the Globe and Mail here which I located at Ed Minchau’s blog (Robot Guy) and, as the Globe report is dated Saturday, I doubt the comments are at issue but like you all, I’m only speculating here.
Don’t worry, Stephen. Paul Martin has made it very, very, clear that ALL money stolen by the Liberal party will be paid back to the taxpayers.
You believe him, don’t you?
I think what he meant was “all money we have actually been caught stealing” will be paid back.
As for the other 98%, what the taxpayer suckers don’t know can’t hurt them, right?
Jesus. I can’t even sleep to 8am in anymore. (SDA is hosted in the US, so the timestamp of posts is actually 2 hours later than when I actually write them here – ie – if I post at midnight, it shows at 2am…).
As you see, I’ve now got a post up.
Who knows, Stephen. Maybe Morselli’s going to finally tie Frank Sinatra to the mob.
I can’t see what else he can say that would hurt the CPC. Old tory stuff is invalid, maybe the PQ or Bloc…
Maybe Gomery’s got skeletons!
Out of curiosity, what was the “Clark” thread about? I don’t follow all the comments here, much less at Andrews!

Belinda Stronach left a 300,000 dollar tab when she walked across the floor to the Liars and crooks and they are crooks. She has to be taken to court to force her to pay her tab.
I have no idea, Kate. My daughter had 6 of her teenage friends over for a birthday party and I missed it all.
Must have been bad, though.
It sounds like it was awful, cause Coyne couldn’t stand it. I don’t blame him from his description:
I have suspended the comments, indefinitely. I know that’s why most of you come here, and that this will mean a sharp decline in readership. But as the numbers have grown, the quality has declined. The comments have frankly gone to seed, overrun with western separatists, Bilderberg conspiracy theorists and various other cranks. Last night I spent several hours weeding out a quite disgusting thread speculating on the sexual preferences of various politicians, and the secret gay network that had supposedly infiltrated the Canadian government, and I have no wish to ever soil my hands that way again.
I don’t like to be in the censorship business, or picking and choosing which comments to allow and which to reject, and I don’t have the time to monitor hundreds of comments every day. I hesitated to do this, particularly during the momentous events of the last few weeks, not least because the best of the comments are far superior to anything I might post. But they have been drowned out by all the other crap — low-brow, insult-filled, intolerant of opposing views, and unspeakably tedious. I have no desire for this site to serve as a clubhouse for hard-right wackos, usually anonymous, with way too much time on their hands. Nor can I allow them to obscure the site’s vital mission and cause: personal vanity and self-promotion. I spend enough money underwriting my own incoherent ramblings without subsidizing others’.
I may bring the comments back, or I may not, but if so it will be on a completely different basis. I’ll let you know.

I actually don’t think Andrew removed his comments function because of a threatened law suit. I was following the comments late last night, and between the Joe Clark stuff and the back-and-forth monotony of a battle between a bunch of Conservatives and a Liberal named Shane, it was out of control and impossible to enjoy. I believe Andrew was disgusted not necessarily with the content of the Clark thread, but with the fact that his normally highbrow site was invaded and polluted by a few juvenile semi-literate meatheads. A thread with over 1,000 comments? That’s out of control, indeed. I don’t think we need to lay this at the feet of the PMO. I don’t think AC would be intimidated that easily.
juvenile semi-literate meatheads.
Are we talking trailer park trash here, Jerry Springer material, the great unwashed canadian public, they shouldnt be allowed to vote they dont know anything.
Canada should be run by academic intelluctual, social scientists, political scientists,lawyers-lots of lawyers, only highly educated professors of what ever bullshit they want to call it.More Adrianne Clarksons,Joe Clarks/Charlottetown Accord(theres an example of what the elite can bring you)Thank God for the great unwashed canadian public.
An old joke, stretched to fit…
You know, there really is a bright side to Belinda Stronach’s walkabout…
