Just arrived home this morning from our National Specialty in Calgary, Alberta. Started to fall asleep about 2 hours from home, and finally gave in and got a motel. Still too tired to type.
But, the Big Event was a success. We won…. well everything.

Yes it did. It rained the morning of the specialty, but cleared up and was absolutely perfect for showing dogs by afternoon.

Those back-swept legs look so… unnatural.
That’s something a lot of people mention – they aren’t used to dogs who stand with their rear hocks behind them. They think it’s training, but it’s not really – even young puppies will stand this way naturally.

In the photo of Brat, there’s an optical illusion created by hair and the fact that he’s leaned forward out of curiosity and is standing on his toes a little, but if you study canine anatomy, you realize very quickly that it is the dog who cannot stand with his rear behind him that has the structural problem. He will lack rear angulation or the correct pelvic structure. (Though this varies by breed, of course).
