“I have never seen the likes of this,” Sadlowski-Garza said. “I’m scared.”

Mayor Lori Lightfoot is not the name of a cartoon character, but it should be.

Leaked Audio from May 31st: WTTW News obtained a recording of an online conference call held by the [Chicago] mayor’s office to brief all 50 aldermen on the city’s response to the unrest touched off by the death of George Floyd in the custody of Minneapolis police.

Link to audio here — it’s been up and down, but I now have a copy saved.

You may get a warning message on the prompt, but it’s loading from the WTTW News server.

The recording begins with Ald. Michelle Harris (8th Ward) wondering how she could convince businesses like Walmart and CVS to rebuild on the South Side after the destruction.

“It’s like, what are we going to have left in our community?” Harris asks her colleagues before answering herself. “Nothing.”

The Chicago City Council’s Black Caucus criticized Lightfoot’s decision to use 375 members of the Illinois National Guard to block off the Loop and the central business district starting Sunday morning, making business corridors on the South and West sides an “easy target” for looters and criminals because they “did not have the same level of protection.”

Lightfoot dismissed that criticism as “illogical and not true” on Wednesday.

Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd Ward) said she felt helpless to protect older residents, who she said were struggling to buy food and get prescription medicine.

“I’ve worked really hard over the last seven years and now I feel like I am five feet back,” Dowell said.

“I feel like I am at ground zero,” Harris responded. “My major business district is shattered. Why would Walmart or CVS come back to our communities?”

Via @peterjhassonSeriously listen to the whole audio. It’s insane. Chicago’s own leaders describe their city like it’s Ciudad Juárez

  1. A great example of a lack of leadership leading to anarchy. Incompetent as a definition for this lot is understatement.

    1. That is a perfect encapsulation.

Even scarier is that it is also a bang on description of Canada, its embarrassing Government, Media and purported cognoscenti; and the dystopian future that awaits thanks to the Liberal Party’s country-killing identity politics, disdain for Math and love for Communism.

The Stupid. It hurts. It hurts so badly.

Look. Look at who is in charge.
Hollywood never has and never will make a story as scary.
It just doesn’t get any scarier.

Stephen King may as well start reading his stories for kindergarteners.
Don’t forget to give all your life savings to that nice Madoff fellow.
I hear that Gacey fellow is a great babysitter.
      Don’t forget dinner at Dahmers.

      Yup. That level of stupid.
      Chicago level. Off the charts.
      Suicidal.

  2. Years from now (or weeks?) people from these cities will fondly remember when the news of a few rogue cops might raise an eyebrow. “Sigh, those were the good old days”. Then they’ll remember when their elected representatives bowed to the Twitter mob.

  3. Fools, each and every one. revere a dead criminal and destroy your society and property because of your own stupidity. Just a continuation of the insanity surrounding a virus.

  4. And just like that, those evil empires of capitalism Walmart and CVS aren’t that evil after all. At least, when (they think) the cameras aren’t on.

Oh, you want food now? I suggest you ask the Twitter mob.
You need medicine? Perhaps Black Lives Matter has some. But get on your knees first.
Your house is on fire? I’m pretty sure the looters will help you out.
You need police? Why, whatever for?

    1. Yet these corporations are bending their knee and posting commercials with somber tones claiming solidarity with BLM. Yes, they will rebuild. They will also discount prices at the rebuilt stores in the “urban” communities. Black-pricing. Because black people cannot and should not pay as much for their goods as white folk do. You think I’m kidding?

This nonsense will usher in a return to local, small, “community” businesses. More and more NORMAL people … refuseniks… who refuse to patronize race-pandering, revolutionary-pandering, giant corporations … are going to shop local.

    1. In fall 1974, the Faculty of Architecture of the U of Manitoba had their yearly pilgrimage to Chicago for the 4th year interior design students. Went through Minneapolis and stayed in Chicago for almost a week. Chicago boasted tremendous architecture starting from the 1890’s on through. But even then, it was showing the signs of lawlessness. We were warned NOT to go to certain areas after dark, and even during the day, I accidently strayed into one area where I was accosted by a black pimp and his harem who all boasted interesting hair colours (pink, purple, lime green) for 1974. Only went back once, in 1979 for a trade show.

      1. I’ve got a similar story.

A company I used to work for sent some of its technical staff for training in Chicago. I heard that employees who weren’t from the city were warned about going to a certain part of town, being advised to stay away for their own safety.

Two chaps ended up there, mainly because one of them was a reckless wiseacre and he wanted to see for himself, dragging his buddy along. When they got to that area and stepped out of whatever took them there, they stood out, both of them being white. Fortunately, a friendly resident came up to them and suggested that they get out while the going was good.

They made it back to their hotel safely, but, presumably, a bit wiser.

    2. I’m glad that I took a vacation in Chicago about 10 years ago. The wife and I hit the highlights … attended a Cubs game, rode the El, Ate chicken wings at a Blues club, tried deep dish pizza (yecch), attended “Taste of Chicago” (fantastic), and sat in the third row center stage to see Steely Dan at the Auditorium Theatre (best show ever!), walked the miracle mile, enjoyed Frank Gehry’s bandshell, took a water tour of Chicago Architecture, toured Frank Lloyd Wright’s studio and several homes by Wright, watched sunset over Lake Michigan from a corner table in a high rise bar, did the Sears tower observation deck, The Field Museum, Art Institute, Museum of Contemporary Art … It was one of the most enjoyable, well-planned (by me) trips I’ve ever taken.

But, even then … I was left wondering WHY anyone would live in Chicago. So much of the city was just dirty and crumbling. The harsh weather takes a toll on every part of the built environment. Rust, crumbling stone. And the $cost$ of living! … I looked at residential real estate listings, which were all accompanied by the property tax bills. OMG! Even this N.Californian was SHOCKED by how much $$$$$ residents had to $$$$$ pay … the $$$$$ politicians for the “honor” of living in this frozen wasteland. It was insane.

No wonder blacks living in Chicago murder each other in huge numbers. They have NO hope and no future in Chicago … none. Even if they have a modest job, they will NEVER make any economic headway. They would need to all be given no-work jobs like Michelle Obama … taking in $400k + just to manage a modest home.

The corrupt, incompetent, politicians (all Democrat) have turned Chicago into a wildly expensive shithole as far as I am concerned. I will never be going back. Not while it continues its downward spiral with UNIONist, Marxist, Leadership.

      1. I visited Chicago too in 1996, with my son, who was a huge Bears fan. We were moving from Ottawa to Vancouver. Because I had driven the transCanada several times, we decided to take an American route. First stop In Chicago, the bears stadium.

The city architecture was beautiful. My son was 21 and I bought him his first martini in an expensive hotel bar downtown. I found the local people to be industrious and very friendly, whatever colour. The following day, my son went off to buy a leather bears jacket and I went to an awesome art exhibition. Too bad that the city has changed for the worse in 24 years.

Detroit, on the other hand, was scary, with groups of youth in cars who frightened us. I blew through a red light there to avoid unwanted company.

As I have said before, it is a really bad idea to shut young people in their homes with no jobs, no money, no fun, no school during short summers. Let the herd immunity begin, now.

  5. They should just build Black Walmarts & Costco’s like having Black Newspapers & Universities. Get with it Lady, grab the opportunity while you have it!

    1. The Lopez-Lightfoot discussion occurs a little before halfway through the discussion. It’s sooooo worth listening to, only to illustrate how completely out-of-touch the incompetent mayor is.

  6. “Ald. Patrick Daley Thompson (11th Ward) told Lightfoot he was worried that the looters would attack homes where many people have guns and concealed carry weapons.”

Of course it’s their BIG worry, like Trudeau’s Liberals they didn’t groom and early release these people just to be shot by taxpayers.

  7. Two issues with Chicago
First Electing a Woman as Mayor
Second, Electing a Knee Grow as Mayor

Did no one else want the frigging job?

    1. Chicongo used affirmative action policies to elect the mayor. No competence but she checked off two of the required boxes.

    2. That was a rather stupid comment. There are many great women out there, and many great people with more pigment than you. If you think yourself superior for such a comment, think again. You’ve revealed something else.

      1. Condoleezza Rice is a very capable and smart woman, who just so happens to be black.
You’re one of those that jump and down crying “racist” when someone points out another’s short comings.
The mayor in this case is about as incompetent as it comes. Suggesting she was elected by “affirmative action” is in no way showing “white (fill in the blank)”.
        Get over yourself.

Dowell asked Lightfoot to use the National Guard to protect grocery stores and pharmacies, but the mayor said “they are not a magic tool, they are the military.”

In other cities, National Guard troops have made things worse, “not better,” Lightfoot said.

    ——-
That is a damnable lie. Minnesota put 4,000 National Guard on the streets starting Saturday Afternoon (May30), and they calmed everything down. The lootings stopped. The arson stopped. In Minnesota. While In Chicago they were looting and trashing the Downtown Loop area Saturday.

On Sunday May 31, while the Chicago Mayor and Alderpeople were talking about the destruction of Chicago, and all of 375 Illinois National Guard were securing the already trashed downtown, part of the 11,000 Minnesota National Guard were helping police monitor two big Peaceful Daytime Protests. Others of the 11,000 Guardsmen were keeping the peace throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Imagine if Chicago’s best and brightest had deployed 10,000 Illinois National Guard, not 375?

Of course, it did take Minnesota 3 days of rioting, looting, and arson on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before they finally called out the Entire Minnesota Guard. Chicago still hasn’t, and it is still a shit show. While Minnesota is peaceful, and the Guard has even gone home too.

Overwhelming Force works. The criminals go home. The anarchists go home. The peaceful protesters stay.

    1. I suspect there is more to come.
      Four of months of fun.
      Get Trump at all costs.
The Liberal Rat Pack on steroids.
If the Liberals/Democrats can’t govern, they ensure no one else can.
      Twas ever thus.

  9. Well, we know what city can be used for the next Fallout game. And it didn’t require a nuclear weapon…

  10. When politicians who have subjective BS as their platforms are faced with reality they either throw more money at it or call for help. Measurable results are their worst enemy as it exposes the futility of their efforts. Social programs are the result of economic successes not the printing press which progressives absolutely depend on. Unfortunately when society gets the bill for the Covid era and these people are tossed to the curb, progressives will look back as this being the “Golden Era” of their programs.

When societies operate with little or no understanding of economics they are manipulated by people who see opportunity to take advantage. So many of the SJW are making their way in life by doing exactly that. Instead of dealing with ideas thru an affordability filter and prioritizing accordingly progressives solve the issue by “charging it”. When they cannot use the cheque book anymore they will seize/steal assets from whoever they can. It should not surprised anyone that the large urban cities in the USA, controlled by Democrats for decades, are the focal point of unrest. It should not surprise anyone that Congress, controlled by Democrats, are directing $100’s of billions, to bail them out. Money in your jeans success is not something that benefits the DNC. Financial success undermones their control.

Our sleezy PM fits in well with the DNC types. What is truly ironic is that they will throw him under the bus whenever the two countries interests diverge.

  11. We lived in Chicago from 2000 thru 2005, and our son & his family still live there in an old working-class Mexican neighborhood called Pilsen. He tells us that Pilsen has been untouched by riots or looting …because the local Mexican owners of shops & restaurants on 18th Street and on Cermack, plus their adult kids, have been standing guard on the sidewalk 24/7 with shotguns and AK-47s. Zero blacks anywhere in the Mexican neighborhoods because the beaners are very well armed and everybody knows they WILL shoot without hesitation. Our son says when any (of the very few) Mexican cops cruise along 18th Street or Cermack nobody bothers to hide their weapons …they just nod and smile at each other, in full understanding that “You’re on your own, good luck.”

  12. If any of these vacuous ‘cop-deleters’ woke up scared tonight hearing people breaking into their home, how many do you think would still immediately dial 911?

I am guessing about 95%. Again, leftards have repeatedly proven that they are all about emoting feelings and signalling insincere virtues to the mob, not about dealing with reality.

To that end, since manifesting their TDS addiction for 4 yrs has gotten the left absolutely nowhere, it’s as if they all discovered C(cop)DS at the same time and are now wallowing in an orgy of release and satisfaction that all of their hating of the wily Trump has never been able to give them.

I feel for any conservative stuck living in a major city, these days.

    1. They need to be prepared for white flight. Black flight, too. Anyone who has the resources and opportunity to get out will get out. The entrepreneurs and the committed hard workers needed to stabilize the community will choose greener, and safer, pastures. Of those with means, only the public unionized classes will remain but will send their children to private, secure schools (like they do already but more). Those without the means will remain trapped. Property prices will plummet accelerating capital flight, destroying the tax base. Defund the police? Of course, they’ll have no choice.

Detroit redux. Their problems are just beginning.

    1. “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.” – H. L. Mencken

  13. I tried listening to the audio, but it sounds too much like a bunch of ninnies at the hairdressers complaining about customer service at Sears. The dialogue is not what you would expect from your best and brightest. Chicago, Minneapolis, and many other centers have made the mistake of entrusting the vote to those who are not capable of rendering a wise decision. It is the upwardly mobile, mentally deficient, guiding the decline.

  14. It’s impossible to listen to that tape without breaking down in tears of laughter.
Hey Chicago voters, who won’t elect anyone without a D after their name:
You broke it? You bought it.

  15. Throughout the call, there is frequent mention of being unable to get through to 911.

I trust that Minneapolis residents understand that this is a preview of their future. If/when they once again vote in Democrats, then they deserve everything that happens to them … good and hard.

  16. The best comment/suggestion I heard was from the ex-cop now-alderman who suggested calling in retired cops to help out. Most of the rest of the speakers were just complainers with no solutions. The guy that got into the cussing match with the Mayor probably just got his ward moved to the bottom of the help list.

I see that the Mayor has been in office for just over a year. I wonder if she regrets winning the office now.

  17. Most cities now have lefty activists in charge. That is the real problem. Conservatives of any colour rarely bother to run for office any more.

  18. I think it’s great! I think anyone and everyone with a business should pack up and haul ass. That includes every grocery store, hardware store, restaurant, clothing outlet…. The lot…. Don’t leave ANYTHING behind… Fuck ’em all!!

    1. For many it will be easy, the only thing left is ashes. Because it was a civil disturbance, there will not even be an insurance check. The government might kick in some dimes on the dollar, and offer some loans.

The suburbs are less than 10 miles away.

Thanks to Chinese Coronavirus, there will be lots of open storefronts in the suburbs too. Move in ready, start making money in weeks opportunities.
