Science direct says “Chloroquine use is suitable for people of all ages and for pregnant women” and “nursing infants should be given chloroquine”. Wikipedia agrees…

  4. 2 grams of Ibuprofen ( Advil or Motrin ) is about 10 pills

    it would probably cause abdominal pain, possibly bleeding

    having said that, I don t understand what the post is about

    the first tweet is about a medication that can cure corona virus infection with 2 grams of it

    why is someone daring others to take 2 grams of Advil???

  9. Sort of an aside, but one of the benefits of ibuprofen in clinical practice is its therapeutic index (TI), or therapeutic window of safety. If someone is a bonehead and takes more than the recommended max of 1200mg per day, say 2400mg (yes, more than 2g), at worst they are likely to get a tummy ache.

    Compare that to acetominophen (Tylenol), where the maximum dose was recently reduced from 4g to 3g per day. That’s only six 500mg caps. Above that limit and you are at risk of permanent liver damage.

    Viewed in this light, chloroquine, the drug postulated to be of benefit for COVID-19, is more like acetominophen, it has a narrow TI: dosages rage from 500mg to 1500mg per day. Above 2g is a no-no. But a narrow TI hasn’t stopped folks from taking Tylenol every day.

      I pay zero attention to anything in Canadian news other than the bit I glean here at SDA. The ghouls who deliver the news in Canada CBC, CTV, Global, is more than I can bear and it causes me to hurl or at least experience some dry-heave. So I avoid it entirely.

      I am old and what happen in the future is becoming less and less of an interest to me, so I choose to enjoy the current political circus in the USA … At least Trump and Posse are brilliant and they are mopping the floor with the DNC. Not that is entertainment.

  14. I think the 2 gm chloroquine hit job is written by someone who invested in the wrong pharmaceutical company.

    I’ve taken chloroquine regularly back in the day; nobody worried much about it. Anyway, once you’ve been hit by 2 nanograms of Covid19, you don’t want someone jerking you around over a gram of chloroquine.

    Chloroquine is used by millions of people.
    It didn’t kill me years ago when I took it in Southeast Asia to prevent malaria.

    I’m told that if a reporter hits themselves on the head with their own microphone enough times it can cause brain damage.

    This website says that adults should be given 1,000 mgs and then 600-800 mgs:

    Two grams is 2,000 milligrams or – if one wished to calculate this way – 2 grams is 0.135 Tablespoons of chloroquine. I don’t know a doctor who measures out medicines that way.

    What the fear-mongering bribed press is doing is nothing short of irresponsible and every medical professional worth his or her salt should publicly excoriate and then kick the @$$ of the stupid oaf who peddles this hyperbolic garbage.

  18. I believe chloroquine was derived from quinine which was used to stave off malaria back in the early days of the British empire.
    Quinine is what gives tonic water that bitter taste and added a medicinal quality to that afternoon drink of gin.
    For the fun of it, I asked my pharmacist if chloroquine was still available but it is considered too old a drug to stock since there are other more effective drugs in use today.
    I remember hearing that care needs to be taken in giving malaria medicine to Africans since they have some natural immunity and the medicine can be fatal.
