Wuhan Flu

MSN;

President Trump announced Thursday that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is making experimental drugs — including those used for treating malaria — available as part of the ongoing effort to tackle the spread of the coronavirus.

Trump announced at a White House press briefing that chloroquine, a drug designed for use in malaria, has been FDA approved and will be made available by prescription “almost immediately.” He said it was one of a number of antiviral therapies to limit the symptoms of the virus that the administration is trying to get to Americans as quickly as possible.

“I have directed the FDA to eliminate rules and bureaucracy so work can proceed rapidly, quickly and fast,” he said. “We have to remove every barrier.”

Good. (h/t Buddy)

It’ll be good to return to normal so the world can go back to bashing “big pharma”.

    1. If it can’t kill you, it may be worth a try “in extremis”, which is where many patients may likely be.

Further, doesn’t this fit the “last chance saloon” directive recently passed by Congress if one is “in extremis” one can elect experimental or extraordinary means in an effort to ameliorate or change the track of one’s condition.

So perhaps the public at large will have to admit that President Donald J. Trump was ahead of the curve by about a 1.5 YEARS.

President Donald J. Trump is taking effective leadership by running ahead of the “flattening curve”.

Perhaps not an immediate cure, but if it prevents further deterioration and full body shutdown; then it is foiling the natural course of the virus. It certainly warrants a look and further testing.

  1. Over the weekend some 600 illegal migrants some wearing masks were escorted into Quebec at Roxham Road, despite Trudeau’s lies to President Trump to the contrary. Even the RCMP baggage handlers are wearing protect gear. NO worries, nothing to see here. These illegals all get gold plated heath care that taxpayers could only imagine & no doubt the sick ones will be moved to the head of the line, just behind the politicians and elites. The only coverage I have come across is reporting from RebelMedia & True North.
If you have not already done so please go to CloseTheBorder.ca and sign the petition.

    1. As long as it’s Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa bearing the brunt. Send some to Redmondton, Victoria, and King Ralph’s riding…

    2. So, signing a petition to close the border, will have what effect, exactly, on governments that won’t even enforce their own court injunctions?

Maybe we could just ban illegal border crossing…

    3. This morning on the earlier Wuhan Flu thread (timestamp around 9:30 AM), David Hand shared the response from his MP, Karina Gould, that Roxham Road is not open. The response is undated. Keean Bexte reported from there on Tuesday that it was indeed open.

  2. You also need to supplement the anti-malaria drug with zinc to make it work well. If you or a loved one do have the symptoms, ask your doctor to try it. And then report the results.

The vaccine is a long way off, but if we can find effective treatments, we can ramp down and end the worst of the isolation and quarantine effects.

In the mean time, please stay out of crowds and practice good hygiene.

  3. You have to admit big pharma, AKA Bayer among others is right there for the planet, 3 million tablets is an encouraging start./sarc. or do I really need to add the /sarc.

    1. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/10/091002132346.htm:
The devastation of the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic is well known, but a new article suggests a surprising factor in the high death toll: the misuse of aspirin. Appearing in the November 1 issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases and available online now, the article sounds a cautionary note as present day concerns about the novel H1N1 virus run high.

High aspirin dosing levels used to treat patients during the 1918-1919 pandemic are now known to cause, in some cases, toxicity and a dangerous build up of fluid in the lungs, which may have contributed to the incidence and severity of symptoms, bacterial infections, and mortality. Additionally, autopsy reports from 1918 are consistent with what we know today about the dangers of aspirin toxicity, as well as the expected viral causes of death.

The motivation behind the improper use of aspirin is a cautionary tale, said author Karen Starko, MD. In 1918, physicians did not fully understand either the dosing or pharmacology of aspirin, yet they were willing to recommend it. Its use was promoted by the drug industry, endorsed by doctors wanting to “do something,” and accepted by families and institutions desperate for hope.

“Understanding these natural forces is important when considering choices in the future,” Dr. Starko said. “Interventions cut both ways. Medicines can save and improve our lives. Yet we must be ever mindful of the importance of dose, of balancing benefits and risks, and of the limitations of our studies.”

  4. Maybe the Canadian federal government can declare martial law and get some pipelines built to help Alberta and employ Canadians!

    1. That would violate 3 of Trudeau’s core principles, building pipelines, helping Alberta, and employing Canadians.

  5. Lets hope Bayer’s drug works better than during Spanish Flu when they pushed aspirin on everyone.
thousands of young people overdosed on aspirin and died not of flu.

    1. Aspirin helped many people during the Spanish flu. And like any drug, overdose is just stupid. That’s the fault of the person, not the drug. Kind of like licking toilet seats or the stupid pole.

  6. Haha…no good deed goes unpunished. People are already bashing Bayer US. I’m sure they’ll be the ones taking a moral stand and refusing any “Big Pharma” drugs for themselves or children.

BTW…thanks Bayer and “Big Pharma” for life saving drugs. Big thanks to Trudeau as well for…I don’t know…making Rosemary Barton’s thighs tingle? You know…like Idris did for Sophie.

      1. Where is over the counter quinine widely available in Canada? A search for over the counter quinine capsules/tablets on Amazon CA revealed no sources. On Amazon US capsules/tablets are available but cannot be shipped to Canada. Quinine in a can of tonic water is about one tenth the recommended dose of 500 mg of chloroquine. So you would need ten cans of tonic water to make up one dose of chloroquine assuming the same therapeutic effect of which I am uncertain. In Canada, chloroquine is available by prescription only. Few MDs will put their licenses on the line unless the Provinces/Feds approve it. However, the published papers do sound promising
Not trying to be a nay sayer, but I did load up on tonic water today and the LCBO had a name brand gin marked down. So maybe a few G&Ts will help. After more than a few I won’t be feeling anyways.

  7. So many people are missing the point. The government and media have shut the entire country, and squashed the economy on another Y2K inspired panic. If a vaccine comes available do you think you will be allowed to resume work at any office, bureau, or government job without first accepting the vaccine? What’s next? No government contracts unless all your workers submit as well. We know where this leads, and it is not a good place. Next flu, or virus will yield the same response. The government has already suggested the implants and monitoring, and how long, or how many outbreaks before the populace willingly submits? Two? Three?

There is nothing to fear from this outbreak unless you have a compromised immune system, just like every other flu/virus that we’ve endured over the 100s of thousands of years.

As Benjamin Franklin once said, and today it is most apropos, “Those who would trade freedom for security, shall have neither.”

    1. I agree with many of your points, but quinine is not a vaccine. It’s the Tonic in G&T. Vaccinations are good. And so are G&Ts

  8. Imagine if Trump is successful in getting FDA to remove the roadblocks – they will slow walk it as much as possible – and actually gets these proven drugs into high gear. Deaths drop dramatically, people get sent home from hospital early.

The rest of the west will be forced to follow like it or not – and we just might evade a planned world wide depression. (Well the US will – were are still f*cked here – with Trudeau or whatever Laurentian elite approved conservative leader we end up with)

    1. Yes, the swamp is strong in the FDA. And they’re about to get drained like sticks of dynamite thrown into a beaver dam.

  9. There’s nothing experimental aboput Qunine; it’s been around dopnkeys years. It’s been tested against the evil Wuhan ‘flu in Japan, China, Australia, Britain has apparently banned its export (I don’t really believe that). And what’s Canada doing? Nothing!

Time to test the general public to get real, meaningful stats; time to use Quinine; time to end the Panic Pandemic.

Are we going to ceased living every flu season now.

    1. Robert of Ottawa: It certainly looks like it!! Trudeau has shut down Canada due to was it 459 people infected across Canada with 4 dead and probably are over 65 yrs old. Out of how many millions 35 million what percentage is that very small. SARS was worse same as the Swine Flu and others!!

    2. But the important testing hasn’t been done. Gin and Tonic works. How about Vodka Tonic? Rum and Tonic? Whiskey and Tonic? Irish and Tonic? Scotch and… nope, can’t do it. Thin’ oh the peat, mon! (supposed to be brogue, not Jamaican)

Do we have volunteers for testing?

  10. I am still leery of that guy on Tucker Carlson last night who claimed a 100% “cure” rate from the quinine drug. He didn’t bother explaining the bio-Chemical mechanism for the “cure” … just a suspicious claim and suspicious test. Sorry, my mother was born in the “Show me State”. I can’t help it.

BTW … I expect every self respecting eco-crank who screams about Roundup slaughtering millions as a “toxic agent” … will refuse treatment by Bayer. The parent company selling Roundup.

And BBTW … was it the WHO that published the “study” claiming Roundup causes cancer? The same WHO who claimed in mid. Jan. 2020 that the novel-coronavirus absolutely could NOT transfer human-to-human. And why do we believe anything this political, not science, Org. has to say.

    1. Intense pushy nervousness. Maybe he was just TV nervous. 100% cure rate, I’m skeptical. Next thing you know 7 dentists will all be agreeing on toothpaste.

    2. Check WATTSUPWITHTHAT a few days ago. It was a report from three aricles from diffferent sources in scientific journals, including the PC Nature

    3. MedCram has an excellent discussion at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7F1cnWup9M on the role of quinine and zinc in deactivating virus replication. It’s the zinc that actually causes the deactivation. The role of chloroquine is to open up the entrance of zinc into cells. I’m not clear on if quinine found in tonic water has the same effect and to the same extent. Certainly the concentration is not as high.
Back in the 1980’s when sitting at a disco bar after a few G&Ts, I was always fascinated by the fluorescence of G&T under blue lights. So much so that I didn’t pay much attention to the ladies. Sigh. Ain’t chemistry grand.
BTW MedCram offers phenomenally understandable explanations of medical topics.

  11. A bit of good news – not only is Fed X indicating China is nearly back to normal (90% of large businesses and 65% of small). My signif other Tinfoilhatconspiracy tells me as of 2 days ago orders for building block chemicals have resumed after a pause. If we see a lack of social media posts showing bodies on the ground and other data points of a resurgence then we will have strong evidence that this thing will be over in a few months.

And now for some G&Ts of the apocalypse

  12. I don’t think there is enough quinine in tonic. So I guess you all will have to just drink a shit ton of it.
    Cheers!

  13. A note: what’s in tonic is quinine. The drug that’s been tested and appears to be effective against Kung Flu is choloroquinine phosphate, which is generally only available by prescription.

And the medical dosage of quinine recommended to treat malaria would require you to drink 6-8L off tonic water a day, which is in the range of the LD50 for water.

    1. Yes of course. Hence more letters in the name of one than the other, like the suffix chloro- for Chlorine. Shape matters in biology and so does reactivity. We don’t know what biochemically speaking is going on yet. Chlorine is a big clunky molecule in a diff position on the benzene ring and the nitrogen bonds are not as sexy but I like that it looks like a pinchie scorpion. And there’s the whole cation, anion phosphate bit.
Is quinine in any way helpful? Can’t rule it in or out. Still doesn’t dampen my enthusiasm for G&Ts of the apocalypse. Bottoms up.
