  1. Trump seemed hoarse tonight. Sounds like he might be coming down with something. It’s probably nothing. As for government action, the only solution is a Wuhan style lockdown but we have to wait for more deaths.

    Not true. These viruses can also be spread by contact, so yes hand washing is somewhat effective.

    SARS = 9.6 %

    MERS = 34 %

    covid19 = 3.4 %

    contagious does not equal deadly, and 3.4 % is a low mortality rate

    but time will tell who is right ( Trump or Trudeau )

    1. The H1N1 (swine flu) had a mortality rate of .02%. I wouldn’t call 3/4% a “low mortality rate”.

  11. Proportionally most people die from the seasonal flu that have from this new virus. And those that have died from thishave been elderly or frail, most of the deaths in the US are residents of care homes. That may change but the panic is way out of line. If you are not frail, elderly, or with a preexisting lung or heart condition it is unlikely that you will die.

    Yes maybe stock up on a few essentials and remember toilet paper makes a good barter item.

    Democrats Abroad counting on their US passports to let them escape a European lockdown should be denied entry and arrested if they try. As it is, this is far too little, far too late.

  14. My daughter’s two close Irish friends had flights to LA for the end of their month … to come visit. Not any more. And my Canadian in-laws are stuck in Barcelona … having had their entire Italy vacation utterly destroyed. At least they’ll be able to get back to Canada, eh? Thanks PM-do nothing!

    However … puhleeze! The hysteria is completely overboiled. What MY President did tonight is all completely reasonable. And every narrow branch of infection spread needs to be thoroughly investigated, and everyone tested and quarantined as necessary. But life does NOT need to come to a halt.

Probably nothing compatible with a free society can stop it now. All because the Politburo and their assets in the American Deep State oppose the re-election of Donald Trump.

      That President Trump will be re-elected anyway (because Americans will see through the plan and go to the polls to support their president) will be very cold comfort.

All I can say is that as much of a haircut I’ve taken in the stock market … I am fortunate enough to have enough cash on the sideline to buy-into the MOTHER of all buying opportunities in my entire lifetime in the coming weeks/months.   15. Not sure if one is to prepare for the pandemic or just the wave of hysteria that the pandemic (however severe or mild) generates. Bottom line is, supply may run out for any number of reasons, not all related to health. Once everyone senses that supplies can run out, the pressure grows and supply grows even shorter.

    I think this is being overblown to some extent. So Tom Hanks has a cold, that’s not exactly a good reason to cancel 99% of public events around the world.

    In any case, governments are soon going to need to start balancing realities. Just as with climate change, you can over-react and wreck the economy just to achieve very limited (and some might say unattaiable) goals. Common sense is one thing, a mass over-reaction with a global depression as a result makes no sense to save a few of us from a premature end, and let’s face it, we all come to that end sooner or later.

    Can we trust China’s numbers? China claims that virus infections have plateaued. I don’t know if this claim is true but taking the claim and the numbers at face value we have:

    Total infected 80,932
    Total deaths 3,112
    Total recovered 62,682

    If China, with a population 1.4 billion, represents the worst case scenario then Canada, with 1/40th of China’s population, would get 2,000 infected, 80 dead, and 16,000 recovered when the virus infections will have plateaued in Canada at a similar stage of the disease’s progress.

    I am leaving out of the comparison that Canada has a much healthier population and is, therefore, less vulnerable.

    We’ll see.

    I prefer to call it the Wuhan Pneumonia, since the pneumonia is the real killer.

    As the doctor in the middle of the carnage in Northern Italy said, BILATERAL INTERSTITIAL PNEUMONIA. Every diagnosis was Bilateral Interstitial Pneumonia.

    The next “discovery” will be the permanent damage to the victims’ lungs from the pneumonia.

    Do not get infected if at all possible.
    Practice good hygiene, wash your hands.
    Stay out of public.

    Merkel says 55 million Germans and people in Germany will get Wuhan Pneumonia. Even if only 1% die, that is 550,000 people. Half a Million plus German corpses. Welcome to a World War carnage.

    I think the health care workers in our lives, in our neighborhoods, are going to need a ton of support.

    No one leader is talking about the importance of community. Rather we panic and talk to isolation and a hermits existence.

    The question I’m asking myself is that if this is true and we (mostly) all catch the flu then 96% of us will develop immunity. What then?

    And the expectations that our institutions can and will be able to respond quickly and effectively to a pandemic are somewhat naive.
    They are government,crisis is their reason for existing.
    But crisis planning is a lifetime of waiting with very brief periods of extreme terror.

    We live in our own little bubbles,friends,family,work and future plans..outside that, a larger world occassionly imposes itself.
    But most of what we “know” of the larger world is fight or flight reporting.
    If it bleeds it leads.
    The last few decades have shown us the “Reporting” may be the problem.
    If you base your world view on our North American Media’s product, you will suffer major confusion.
    “Yes we have always been at war with Oceana”.

    Now we have a spreading viral infection that drowns the inflected inside their own lungs.
    We know there is no good reason to trust the “reports”,nor those government numbers shamelessly spewed out, cancelled and changed daily.
    So a distant dread,hangs on the horizon,the drums of doom pound away as background noise and those with time on their hands speculate and chatter endlessly.

    What has changed inside our life bubbles?
    Where is the immediate harm?
    Were you planning on living forever?
    Forever young and healthy?

    As the manufactured hysteria spreads.
    Trust,whatever is left,in institutions(Government expertise) falls.
    Our dollar is tanking,if you planned on buying any imported toys,now might be a good time.

  23. Sorry Kate, not impressed with Olsterholm. Half the people graduate in the bottom 50%. He was all muddled around school closings. It’s not hard. The data show a death rate for 10 – 19 yr olds @ 0.2% – because kids don’t get it or something. C’mon it’s really not hard to find the official announcements that have infecty kids. Just look at the Tree on the Lawyer patient zero out of New Rochelle. Let’s be wishy washy about keeping a hot pool of super spreaders, YAY. Did he give wrong advice around hand sanitizer too? Yikes. Yes he did get it right about cytokine storms and vaccines (that’s what I meant when I said SARS vaccine causes small dead animals) but there may be other ways to skin the cat.
