It’s Probably Nothing

Put Your Trust In The Experts: The Center for Disease Control confirmed the existence of a coronavirus case in California with “unknown” origins on Wednesday evening, with UC Davis Medical Center revealing that they had requested a test last week, but had been denied by the CDC because “the patient did not fit the existing CDC criteria.”

  1. Justin’s favorite basic dictatorship in action, folks.

The UN would never dare push back & condemn #Chicoms.

    1. my boss told me that 40 yrs ago about chirese buying resources and farm land and etc in ahfricah.
how long does it take to buy a continent?

  2. China wants to make Africa 100% Chinese. What better way than by killing off the native population with an engineered virus?

  3. I can’t afford to pay for an outbreak in Africa. (even though I’m sure PM blackface will insist I can)

  4. There seems to be 2 reactions to the coronavirus – business as usual and utter panic. I’m heading to the world’s largest mining conference next week (30,000 people from around the world heading to Toronto, Canada) – business as usual. In Japan they are closing schools and telling the children to stay at home – utter panic.

  5. The same airline is landing here every day. Just check the Vancouver arrivals:
    https://www.yvr.ca/en/passengers/flights/arriving-flights

Today, like everyday, there are multiple flights of Chinese airlines as well as flights from other affected areas like Hong Kong, Seoul, Taiwan and Singapore. That’s thousands of people every day in Vancouver alone, with many more landing in Toronto.

It’s like Canada is actually trying to get its share of this virus.

    1. Don’t forget Iran. There’s a fairly decent sized community of Iranians (they call themselves Persians) in Vancouver and recently there was a case in Vancouver where the person had traveled to Iran. Bottom line here is that it’s too late now. The only thing that could have saved us is a complete shutdown of all borders but that’s impossible to do politically.

    2. “It’s like Canada is actually trying to get its share of this virus.”

      Bingo!

As any self hating Progressive virtue signalling society would.

The good news is that just like Open Borders and Muslim “lone wolf”/ “mental illness” is that Cronovirus will attack Liberal gun-free zones first.

      1. “We must suffer alongside those who have been oppressed.” You progressives can suffer if you want. I’ll do what I can to protect myself.

  6. So nice that UC Davis Med Center is…less than a mile from my house. Reassuring (not).

This has been the year of widespread upper respiratory tract infections. I’ve had off/on cough/post-nasal drip for 5 weeks. One key question: How many coronavirus infections are already ‘out there’ but undiagnosed?

Given the forced proximity of modern mass transit/air travel, I don’t see an easy way to significantly slow this (this was my thought last week on a flight from PDX to LAS, sitting next to a lovely young Chinese couple and their 1-year old–who were of course coughing/sneezing).

    1. That is an excellent question and the real answer is that no one knows. It is astounding how few actual tests the CDC has performed and there are real questions about just how accurate the tests are. It’s very possible that the number of cases is greatly understated because of a lack of testing to discover them.

I don’t think there’s any reason to panic but the first sensible response is to greatly limit travel from affected areas and to isolate and test people either arriving from affected areas or showing any symptoms. We are so far doing very little of either of those actions. It’s like they actually want a real outbreak to deal with.

      1. I remember how bad H1N1 kicked me around for two weeks in the spring of 2011 (there was a woman in the next community that died of it). There’s A LOT of bad bugs out there and it’s easy to overwhelm even the best medical systems not built to instantly care for entire populations. Best anyone can do is look after themselves and their family. Get a flu shot. Stock up on medicines to treat the symptoms. Take vitamins and supplements to boost immune system. Don’t stay in vicinity of people that are hacking away (no you’re not being impolite!). Eat a good diet. Get enough rest. If the country can’t ultimately keep the bad bugs out at least the spread can be slowed and impact lessened through common sense individual actions. Those who don’t lose their head to fear and choose to act rationally almost always have the best outcome. The world’s a dangerous place and that’s just life. Deal with it.

    1. Yep. Cause an economic crash in an election year. It worked to get Obama elected in 2008 and would strip Trump of his greatest claim to success in his first term. Rod Rosenstein’s sister mouthing a statement contrary to the White House’s position that gets massive media play time at a critical time has a definite stink to it. Like the swamp’s trying to resurrect 2016’s star Dem candidate with the Her-please virus.

  7. I look at the 80/20. Seems like 20 % need some sort of serious or critical medical care to survive. If the only lever we have is extreme social distancing then it’s not panic, it’s pragmatic. To have the best outcome for the 20% we need to prevent overwhelming the system with a Tsunami of patients. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ see active cases chart.

In other amusing news, Hajj has been canceled and in a sure sign of the end of days, CDC asks Millennials to shave beards. https://dailycaller.com/2020/02/26/cdc-shave-beards-coronavirus/

  8. Just remember…the “experts” in canada are the government bureaucrats that formed up ranks and applauded when Trudeau was elected. Their ONLY interest is inflating their budgets and the number of people working under them, which of course increases their power and salary (and the number of holiday “govt business” trips etc).

I haven’t used that many air quotes in years.

Cue the cries of: “we do it because we care about canada and canadians!”

  9. yah, if the covid-19 gets into the muslim, or eyetie communities. It will spread like wild fire. Neither of those groups like washing their hands

  10. So. Since I live close-enough to this “random” case here in N.CA … my question is “where has this woman been – locally” Been to the grocery store? Been to “the outlets” in Vacaville? how many others has she potentially infected that are now “6 degrees of separation” away from me? I went to the market yesterday. Can I clean my Romaine lettuce ENOUGH to prevent contracting the virus from the infected produce stock boys?

I am not a panic-stricken hysteric by nature … but I am flying to LA next week (to see my grandson, again) and now I worry if I will become a carrier … who kills my one and only grandson?

    1. kenji, youre in a good spot on the timeline.
better to land at LAX very soon and bug out when the visit is up.

to the so whats out there, I again demand to know what precisely will stop this thing dead in its tracks?

  11. time to make book on this.
so, what range of fatalities are not going to fit the critera?
    3 digits or 7 digits? maybe 8.
    odds are . . . . . . indeterminate.

if the hits the, Im banking on my good immune system that kept severe flu away for 68 years now.
right now I have a slight cough and get funny looks with a gauze mask on.
remember, they dont protect YOU, they protect OTHERS from your sneezes and coughs. better than nothing.
nice to see so many thinking of others eh? BULLSHT. its the urban legend that gets the mask on their face.
