  1. I chuckle every time the reporter says “turbans”. That right there is hilarious.

  2. That is ludicrous. The lifetime of heavy machinery should be measured in multiple decades. Engineer things well enough and you can approach a century or more. The B52 airplane is now expected to last nearly 100 years. More relevant to this discussion is hydroelectric power. As a young engineering student, I visited the Holtwood hydro plant in Pennsylvania. Built in the early 1900s, it incorporated a novel bearing in the turbines. Named after its inventor, the Kingsbury thrust bearing ran many decades without any problems. When they finally decided to actually inspect the bearing, it had no wear. Holtwood has now been producing electricity for over a century.

    1. The people who built the B52 and the 19th Century and early 20th Century power plants believed in civilization. The people building wind turbines do not.

    2. good lord Robert JF, you are an injun-ear, and you just posted that????

I have formally a grade 12, so let me educate you a little. To make wind turdbins last longer they need “heavier” (more robust) bearing, which have more drag, so they make the turdbins inefficient. So they used bearing that are “border-line”. These border-line bearing tend to fail quite often, butt those that do not fail allow most turdbins to operate on the plus side of the scale. I’m thankfull I’m not an injunear!!!

      1. Besides,GE built thus crap in China, which to me equals crap-all-the-way. But they make spectacular video when they self-incinerate.

  3. It has occurred to me that there are possibly millions of wind turbines around you the world put precisely in the wind patterns that would normally transfer heat from hot place to cold place and dissipate the heat . That would be how heat is transferred in a well known pattern of nature .
It would seem then that the turbines will brake the momentum of the force of the wind and will alter the natural heat exchange.
You could possibly get hot weather due to altered wind patterns.

Now, before somebody get all scientific just think about it and then talk.

  4. I was reading that the turbine blades are composed of composites and resins – forms of plastics. Could we not just bring these under the “Single Use” plastics ban? The hypocrisy of this is stunning.

  5. This is impossible!! I was told (sold) that these wind contraptions were the very definition of RENEWABLE ENERGY!! Renewable!! Read: FREE!! Never-ending!!

They forgot to tell me that these wind contraptions would have to be … renewed.

    1. Kenji

Cause there just aint the ROEI (Return on energy invested), as with Oil n Gas: @ 1: 8
The rest don’t even come close….except for Hydro.

But turbins…?? now “aint they purdy n clean n all..?”
‘Cept when ya go to old Palm Springs and see the 3-400 old ones sitting there – all doing absolutely SQUAT.

It has been and continues to be PURE & utter feel good BULLSHIT, Bullshit that creates NO JOBS, Little Useable Energy, will NEVER fullfill Baseload power Requirements, requires significant $$$ to maintain, are good for at best 20 yrs & aboslutely MUST be Taxpayer subsidized. (Seriously though, how could those Intrepid “GREEN MINDED” [huh…USD], developers ever make any money without FIT, massive tax credits and end users paying dbl or triple for their electrical energy…??).

  6. Oh no, say it isn’t so, not landfills, oh no! So green so clean yet so stupid.
