How SJW Politics Cost Disney $3.7 Billion

“Your politics has CONSERVATIVELY wiped out 75% of the value of the world’s most profitable movie franchise and cost you an estimated direct financial cost of $3.7 billion. You had the golden goose and because you lacked creativity, originality, and cannot simply shuck your SJW, virtue signaling politics, you killed it. And it’s very doubtful if it’s ever coming back.”

  1. It’s worse than “politics” in movies.

The majordomos in the entertainment industry truly believe that it’s their duty to preach THEIR morals and rules for life. So, that’s what we get in entertainment these days.

The problem is that the morals and rules for life of the entertainment industry are essentially socialist / collectivist propaganda.

    Mao would be proud.

  2. And the people at Disney in charge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe see the Star Wars evidence and say “hold my beer”.

There are a lot of people who have stuck with with the Marvel superhero movies because the characters are those they are most familiar with from their comic book and cartoon childhood, and they have so much invested in the story arc that has lasted for 15+ movies and which will close with Avengers EndGame this spring.

When the next story arc (with its more obscure characters updated for today’s Social Justice Warrior mindset) takes over after that, we will read how the MCU’s revenue from each movie is “unexpectedly” dropping.

  3. I’ll never understand and business model…that eliminates half of your customers right off the bat…
    …and they all do it

  4. The only way these chicks could have improved the franchise–was keeping to the “formula” (finding good star wars stories which are literally everywhere), added steamier sex scenes–and more boobs. The nerds would have spent more money to see T&A.

    1. guess why the star trek, er, star DREK franchise did that.
I once got hit with photon torpedoes for suggesting Jeri Ryan was a trannie, as in:
‘seven of nine’ = s-o-n = ‘son’, a veiled inside reference she was actually somebodies egad *son* !!

and no, I have yet to see and still no intention to see a single ‘star was’ flic. ever.

      1. The only Star Wars movie I actually saw (and paid for) at the theatres was the first one–when I was 11 years old.

  5. It was a great franchise for one episode. A classic space opera and great characters. Then it went to shite. That last episode was absolute rubbish. The characters were like something out of a cartoon. The level of technology was asinine. The tactics and strategies that it tried to present were so kindergarten it was painful. No sophistication in the movie at all. And preachy!! Good Lord was it preachy.
Star Wars was killed by Disney and if that is the best they can do, it deserves to die.

    1. I saw the original movie shortly after it was released and I enjoyed it, but, then again, I was 21 at the time. A few years later, pay-TV was introduced across the country, and it was the first one that was shown. I wasn’t as impressed.

A few months later, I went to see Return of the Jedi and I thought it was absolute rubbish but, by then, I had given up on the whole concept. Now, whenever I hear of a new movie in the series, I yawn or shrug my shoulders as it doesn’t affect me in the least.

  6. Yeah, that is what cults do; they proselytize. They never leave members alone. They control every aspect of the members lives; food, sleep, thought, speech, clothes, haircuts, footwear, …

The government in your kitchen, your bathroom (you think they wouldn’t pass a law saying you must wipe only with your left hand?), your bedroom, your closet, YOUR GARAGE, your lawn, your roof, your living room, …

If you want a vision of the future, Winston, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever.

I learned all I will ever need to know about socialists and socialism, when I read ‘1984’. It took me a few decades to actually realize that though.

    1. I would add “Brave New World” and “Atlas Shrugged” to Orwell’s classic. Don’t sell Huxley or Rand short.

      1. “There’s a really crappy book by Ayn Rand called ‘Atlas Shrugged.’ It’s a real snoozer but I was really bored one time on an exercise and struggled all the way through that fucker. The basic premise, though, was simple. A guy who built a widget that was very important to, well, everything it turned out, decided to quit. The guys who took over building the widget didn’t build it as well and society fell apart.

It is not easy to break a society or an economy. You can’t do it by missing any one widget. If they guys making the widget, now, don’t make it well enough someone will come along who does. And probably better than the original widget maker. That’s the whole point of a free-market. Command economy? Maybe. But then the KGB will come break down the widget maker’s door and explain that he’d better get back to making widgets or he’s never going to see his daughter again.” ~John Ringo “The Last Centurion” :p

  7. I’m old enough to remember that watching anything by Disney meant nice, clean entertainment. In fact, when its show was on CBC, my parents and I pretty much stopped what we were doing for the hour that it was on.

That, of course, changed after Walt Disney died. The quality of the movies made by the company declined, particularly when it decided to make ones that were more oriented to adults. I’m reminded of that every few months when Turner Classic Movies devotes an evening to Disney material. There’s a significant difference between the earlier films and the ones from, say, 30 years ago. Some of the later flicks were, frankly, dreadful (The Black Hole, anyone?).

I’m not entirely surprised at the company producing rubbish nowadays. It’s long drifted from what its founder had in mind.

    1. We stopped what we were doing too. Treasure Island, Rob Roy, Dr. Syn, Davy Crockett, Johnny Tremain, Kidnapped…

  8. I have to confess that I have never seen a star wars flick.
Oh to be sure the influence on society of George Lucas’ genius is undeniable. A true visionary who arguably helped steer not only culture, but also technology and design to greater heights. A few examples would be innovation leading up to modern day automobile design and can any boomer forget the 60’s Batman television days of Adam West’s anemic chest, abs and biceps when being enclosed in an ill fitting supersuit?
That was the essence of Lucas’s genius, that he made his vision believable and society did just that and bought into, and adopted his ideas.
He made a well deserved fortune, read the tea leaves and sold out at the right moment.
His is a success story bar none and I’m sure he, like all visionaries doesn’t spend much time looking back.
Wear it Disney…It fits you well in your present frame of mind.
I’m sure Walt, your founder, the consummate artist and business man looks on from where ever and laughs at the present fools trashing his company and looks forward to sharing his time with people the likes of George Lucas when he finally leaves this realm.

    1. AC … I find your faith in Walt Disney to be disturbing. You see, any mention of Walt Disney by today’s Hollywooden intelligentsia MUST include his love of Adolph Hitler, white supremacy, and eugenics. It is quite fashionable to cast Walt as a backward, 1950’s era white male patriarch who MUST be despised. I find that narrative to be disturbing.

  9. Captain? … did you include a “Jar Jar Binks” variable in your big brained economic model? No, I don’t doubt for a minute that the SJW narrative has cut interest in the franchise … its dropped mine off the table in the same proportion as my appetite for the NFL ‘League of their own’ kneelers. However, characters like THAT cartoon (aimed at 5-year olds?) quite literally RUINED the franchise for me. Sorry … going from the classic Bar-scene of freakazoids (looking like a Democrap Primary Debate) … to a Legoland 3d version of Disney’s ‘Goofy’, just ENDED it for me … right there. I did watch the recent episode that featured some poor orphaned ‘tomboy’, and a ‘black’ rebel… which featured an aged Harrison Ford, but fell asleep somewhere during one of the copied-and-pasted scenes lifted from the original franchise.

And BTW is Jar Jar transgendered? I could never quite suss-out its gender … which must have been intended. Disney wouldn’t want to ‘assign’ genders to their characters which would ‘bias’ the viewers response to them … would they?

    1. Maybe Jar Jar Binks ruined the franchise for you, but meesa think that “useful idiot” character has been an inspiration for the United Nations. Especially the IPCC.

  10. Disney on 2018. The 1 childern a small hamburg, small pop and fries. The large soda. The tip $73.25. In 2019 Disney?

  11. Disney recently fucked over a Canadian fan.

He made a Star Wars fan film, spending over $100K of his own money. He contacted LucasFilm beforehand and got permission to use their IP. They gave him permission however they said he could not monetize the video nor could he crowdfund to pay for it. No problem he said. I’ll accept your restrictions and pay for it myself and make it anyway since I am a huge Star Wars fan.

He made the film and it is quite decent (as fan films go, it is probably the best one I have ever seen). He released it on Youtube and it quickly racked up millions of views and the Star Wars nerds went bananas over it.

Disney got wind of this. They immediately filed with Youtube to seize the movie (based on the pretext that it contained Star Wars music snippets which are separately licensed). Youtube complied.

Disney then fucking monetized the video themselves !! I think estimates were that they made something like $80K off of it. Peanuts to an evil corporation like Disney of course but what a FUCK YOU to a loyal fan and the fan base.

Anyway, the nerds went ballistic on behalf of the video creator. They bombarded LucasFilm with complaints and LucasFilm stepped in and told Disney to release the film back to the creator. Disney did. Kept the money though, of course.

Just a small example to show you what a**holes these people really are.

p.s. The movie is called “Vader: Shards of the Past” created by the fan called “Star Wars Theory” on Youtube. Click on it if you have time (you don’t necessarily have to watch it if Star Wars isn’t your thing). He won’t make any money but at least it’s a small FU to Disney.

    1. I wil never understand why people think that intellectual property rights magically vanish as long as you really, really like something.

Disney (not Lucasfilm, *Disney*) owns Star Wars, lock, stock and barrel, and they and they alone get to decide what happens with it. If you think Lucasfilm was any less litigious over Star Wars material before Disney took over, you haven’t been paying attention.

Just a small example to show you what a**holes these people really are.

The a**holes are the fans who keep ripping off other people’s work on some nebulous grounds of it being okay because they’re really, really obsessed. Star Wars only exists because Lucas couldn’t get the rights to do the Flash Gordon film he really wanted to do. Indiana Jones only exists because Albert Broccoli wouldn’t let Spielberg direct a James Bond film. Nerds with the ability to produce a fan film of the quality of Shards of the Past are more than capable of producing their own original content. Maybe they should try that.

      1. Oh you’re going to preach about “intellectual property” are you?
Have you ever stopped to ponder how many BILLIONS Disney has made taking stories and characters that were in the PUBLIC DOMAIN and somehow RE-COPYRIGHTING them? Try doing ANYTHING with a public domain fairy tale story/character that Disney has appropriated for itself. You’ll have a battery of lawyers up your ass faster than you can blink! That is all kinds of wrong.

F**K Disney. If they’ve lost billions on the SW franchise I say GOOD! It’s payback for all the material they have stolen.

        1. Really? How is it then that there have been multiple live action remakes of Disney movies (such as The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast) that were made just fine without Disney suppressing them. Well, it’s because that’s not how public domain and intellectual property works. Disney can stop you from ripping off the Disney-original content they’ve added to the public domain corpus, but if you avoid infringing on their IP there’s nothing they can do.

      2. LucasFilm A DIVISION OF DISNEY gave the kid permission to make the fan film. He didn’t “rip off” anybody and he didn’t try to make any money off it.

Not sure what part of that you don’t understand or if you are just another troll.

On second thought, the fact that you are a Guardian reader tells me all I need to know. Salute Disney, comrade.

        1. Not sure what part of that you don’t understand

Did you miss the part where he used copyrighted music he didn’t have a license to use?

Look, I realize that apparently conservatives of late are having trouble with concepts like “owning things” and “property rights”, but when the hell did this place turn into Little Green Footballs?

  12. Wow Every board and executive team who is thinking about adding a SJW to their team should read this.

Shareholder activism should be all over this.

  13. I found the same with Star Trek. The original rock ’em, sock ’em, somewhat campy series was the best, it encouraged people to believe life will get better as humanity advances. Next Generation was a little preachy, dismissed religion as an ancient superstition that mankind no longer follows. They dismiss the need for money, as everyone can have anything, yet one of the main protagonists continues to trade for gold! Watched some Voyager, saw a lot more SJW preachiness in it; passed over Deep Space Nine, watching only a few episodes here and there. Enjoyed Enterprise, as I found in many ways similarities with the original series. Lasted three episodes into the new series Discovery, and gave up on it…far to much SJW preachiness, never went back to it. Even though it’s not Star Trek, I really enjoy ‘The Orville’, as I find it is ”more Star Trek than Star Trek’! Not surprising when you notice that a lot of the producers and production staff had worked in ‘Next Generation and later series. There has been some SJW preachiness, but they handle it well without insulting the viewer.

    1. I liked “Enterprise”. As my brother put it, it was us in one hundred years. It had its drags but it had a “Right Stuff” quality I found refreshing. All series had some rather good episodes (you should really give “Deep Space Nine” a shot) but much of it was weighed down by political correctness and pomposity.

      1. ‘Deep Space Nine’ and Benjamin Cisco’s glorious pimp hand, the Defiant.

DS9 was much better than Voyager.

Plot of every Voyager episode: “There are those aliens what always tries to kills us, this time is different tho, keep the shields down, hail them”.

        1. Captain Shaft made that show quite watchable.

While Kate Mulgrew is a good actress, she was soon playing second fiddle to wooden actors and silly plots. I feel sorry for her.

  14. Way back when the first Star Wars film made such a big splash, George Lucas said he wanted to make the kind of film that he grew up with, the swashbuckling pirates and heroic quest genre. He succeeded. What made Star Wars such a success is that he was able to make it so visually stunning. The plot was nothing special.

The next bunch, episodes 1 – 3 was a less inspiring plot line, but I saw them.

This latest batch? I saw the first one on TV. Not worth watching. And yeah, the political correctness is a total turn-off.

  15. Well…

some of us have known for a long time that leftism eventually destroys everything it touches

So I’m not all that surprised by this I must say

and I expect to see many more such destruction in the near future…since leftism is spreading like a virus and taking control of one institution after another…and destroying them one by one.

Muslims will have their caliphate sooner than they think…leftism and its little retarded sister – feminism – are making western civilization weaker and stupider everyday.

western civilisation will soon be ripe to be picked like an apple from a tree by islam

then feminists and soyboy will wonder what happened and if there is an app for that at the apple store

  16. Force? FORCE ??????
jeezuz murphy. all this time I thought it said ‘farce’.

the disney people have such reverence for their founder Walt, they got a shmaltzy fiberglas statue of him inside the entrance at disneyworld in orlando.
well, last time I was there about 2 decades ago.

  17. Ha! As always Aaron nails it.

My younger sons have completely lost interest in Star Wars and it does not surprise me in the least. Every last element of the films that would appeal to normal young boys has been removed, and on top of that the films are now politically correct. Of course eliminating content appealing to boys and political correctness go hand in hand!

For myself and my sons the franchise is dead. Will never bother seeing another one.

Sad really. Star Wars was magical for me as a young boy.

  18. I grew up with Star Wars.I had all the toys as a kid, I slept on SW sheets, dressed as Luke for Halloween, had my first crush on princess leia, saw Episode 1 5 times opening week; and, I am done with it. I haven’t seen Rogue One or Solo, I might see episode 9 just to finish off, but that’s it. They have destroyed it for me.
