We throw labels that end in *obe and *ist at each other, attacking each other’s character rather than their ideas.”

I worry about the job prospects, or career advancement prospects, of Brian Amerige, the engineer at Facebook who wrote the pro-free-speech message. Anyone want to take any bets how long he lasts at Facebook? He reminds me of the main character in George Orwell’s novel “1984”.

If I were Amerige, I’d visit a cardiologist and get a full physical workup demonstrating fitness. Then I’d buy a Ford.
I would also make the public aware of those decisions.
It may well be that Mr. Amerige will be somewhat more difficult to fire than Damore was at Google. Amerige’s memo has been published by the NYT, it’s now public. Damore’s message was kept within Google until after they fired him. Google took a fair amount of heat from the outside for firing Damore, Fakebook will have to be prepared to take much more if they fire Amerige. Especially now that the President of the USA is already taking shots at all of them.
One more thing, Zuckerberg was buttonholed by Merkel some time ago to slow down or stop anti muslim talk on Fakebook. Recently our M. Trudeau is known to have warned Sandberg that they have to deal with “fake” news or he would get the Canadian Government interested in them. Google very much wants into China and China insists on pretty strict controls on what the Chinese population can access. I’m not going to suggest that these social media companies haven’t become leftist and SJW censorious hellholes. But globalist, socialist, communist assho!e politicians are a big part of it too.

It always amazes me how many on the conservative side protest the slide to the left and yet do little to counter it. As a boomer I experienced higher education where the left took over the universities. You had to spout their marxist theology for marks. Those students are now influencing every aspect of society.
Progressive theology is a polite euphemism for socialism at best but fundamentally communism. Thuggery robbing your labor and capital.
So “progressives” have controlled education, media and government infrastructure for over 50 years now. In that time conservatives/capitalism has failed to mount an effective campaign to counter the movement. Conservative politicos are a ongoing disappointment. Full credit to the likes of the Koch brothers who have spent decades and millions of dollars resisting.
Failing to produce a communicated philosophy conservatives gravitate to an intellectually weak alternative of looking for leadership in individuals. Canada’s Harper and the USA’s Trump. Without significant grassroots involvement their efforts are likely doomed to failure.
As a conservative who has become jaded towards politics I sit back and assume the only way the progressive tidal wave will be broke is their complete assumption of leadership. Yes, “Atlas Shrugged”. A global socialist nirvana which will ultimately descend into kaos. From there the rebuild can start on rediscovered fiscal realities.
Some of us have been warning for 50 years that this was occurring but have been dismissed as kooks and got the eye roll treatment. Now we as a society are getting what we ignored or asked for and will have to learn like the Russians, Chinese, and others did and the Venezuelans are learning now.
Just look at the increased support for Social “Democracy” in the US, with the high profile flag bearers Bernie Saunders, the twit from New York City, and now the Democrat candidates for the governorship of Florida and California.
Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Youtube are just among the more visible and personal by many people manifestations of this “progressive” (Marxist) control. The quieter and more inside control of our media, educational system, bureaucracy are much more dangerous to freedom.

We do not know whether or not Mr. Amerige will be fired. But conservatives have to organize better, with bigger and more effective lobby groups, in order to prevent bullying and violence.

So, a person who does not consciously know they are angry, or the source their anger should be directed at. Subconsciously they know that they are not valued/undervalued by society (public school indoctrination center being the only/main contact with society)..
Is this why schools shootings take place? Mr. Amundsen back at my elementary school (back in my school days), he never under valued anyone. And there has never been a school shooting at that school…
But, there are no more or very few actual teachers anymore…

So true. The nonsensical ‘self-esteem’ movement which has swept over the “underserved” “urban” schools and communities … is like a shelf full of participant trophies gathering cobwebs. A trophy given to children who TRULY … “didn’t build that”. And yet … the children KNOW the score. The parents KNOW the score. The teachers KNOW the score (and hide it). It doesn’t matter whether they ‘keep’ score at the peewee soccer match … everyone … knows who got their asses kicked.
The ‘self-esteem’ movement is pervasive in our schools. My own wife recites the ‘I-messages’ with her 1st graders … and it reads like a bad Stuart Smalley SNL skit. Gawd … do ‘Educators’ actually BELIEVE that self-delusion is the answer to poor school performance? I believe they ‘reason’ that all the successful students from ‘privileged’ two-parent (male and female) families receive constant positive encouragement from their Ozzie and Harriet moms and dads. Ha! What a joke. It’s more likely that the successful, well-adjusted, students get swift kicks in the ass, are MADE to do their homework, and told to keep their rooms clean … than have some schmaltzy cheerleader of a parent telling them their bowel movement is a work of art.
Our schools FAIL our children … the further they move away from teaching FACTS … and stray into all manner of leftist indoctrination.
