    They’ll be wearing brown shirts
    What I find fascinating is that 1. most citizens already do this to at least some degree, and 2. most law enforcement either a) grossly overreacts or b) files it in the circular file cabinet.
    Here in my town, someone called in a suspicious box by the side of the road. The bomb squad showed up, in full regalia, and after some time (really) it was determined to be one
    of those traffic counter boxes with the rubber hose that runs across the road. Really.

  3. What I find most interesting is the statement that they’ve got the money for another 100 cops, but are having troubles getting candidates through the “challenging hiring process.”
    To anybody who’s ever participated in the government hiring morass, that speaks volumes. It’s not money that’s the problem, it’s the red tape that was almost certainly introduced to ensure fairness and accountability.
    I’d be willing to bet that the trickle of newbies the police are getting is ethnically balanced, of the mandatory sex ratio, has had all the warm-fuzzy sensitization courses, etc etc.
    Triumph indeed.

  5. Heh. How can you expect the “gestapo” to be out arresting Republicans,when they are all busy tapping your e-mails? Yanks are so screwed,they do not even need vasoline. And our Royal Canuck Maryjane Pickers are the same.

Or a snitch network – police work will double as every disgruntled neighbour gets back at the guy who plays his tunes too loud or as th dog who dups on his lawn, by anonymously tipping the cops about his secret pot growing op – yup gotta keep the thin blue line whacking them neighbourhood criminals.

  9. The Calgary cops had a brilliant plan along these lines about 6 years ago.
    They announced on the morning news that letter carriers would be helping the police to find grow-ops.
    One astute letter carrier pointed out to his union ‘Health and Safety’ office that if a grow-op got busted on his route,he could become a target for the angry farmer.
    The 6 o’clock news had a retraction up.
