Fun with cracks. The blank main page was redirected to an email harvester and the template was corrupted. We’ve reverted to a backup but expect further issues as we go through the process. At first glance it appears only the templates were affected but that’s an assumption of giant proportions.

If you’ve privileges on the site Kate will be in touch with you, but be proactive and change and harden up your passwords (standard rules apply: symbols, caps, etc), please don’t use the same passwords at multiple sites. Let Kate know _immediately_ if you have any issues changing your password.

Bumped for Update, from Kate: In response to some of the comments — site loading problems usually originate with the host server and are temporary, more rarely because something in the publishing software gets broken. When the day comes that I pack up the blog for good, I’ll say so on the main page. And should a terminal problem beyond my control take us down, I’ll ask Ed Driscoll to relay the information at Instapundit, and wish you all good luck in your future endeavors.

    Pls explain what you refer to as “privileges” …. And what password are you referring to..??

    When I boot up the site, I’m in instantly. To post, simply Nome de guerre and e-mail address.

    Am a tad confused.

    1. Bob, if we actually gave a damn about your drivel, you would have been blocked and banned ages ago. You’re not interesting enough to censor. You just don’t know what the phrase “on topic” means. That’s alright though, I understand. I am usually guided by the mantra, “Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity.” It’s not your fault though so you’ve my sympathy.

  8. Whenever this blog becomes unavailable, my first assumption is that the socialists in this country have finally been successful in their censorship efforts against freedom of speech and thought and this blog is their latest victim. It’s always a huge relief when the blog reappears.

And without the @katewerk Twitter account as a backup comms channel we will never really know if you were wiped out permanently and completely or if it’s just a temporary technical snafu. Is there some other place we can get updates in a situation like this morning?

  12. I get a knot in my stomach when this sort of thing happens. I think in that moment that they have finally come for Kate and her blog. Sooner or later these Liberal b@@@@@s will try, and most of the rest of us are on that hit list as well.

      Kenji, I always enjoy your commentary, and was dismayed when SDA disappeared this morning. It may be surprising (I’m Texan) but SDA is my first stop most mornings. I’d wondered whether it was a DDOS attack following the Vitamin D3 posts.

        I’ve driven through Texas ONCE … and thought I liked the Hill Country. It reminded me of the beautiful rolling oak studded foothills of the Sierra. Are there some downsides I should know about? Tornados? Yahoos with more gun than brains?

        1. Nope. Just be polite and learn to talk Texan…

          Can freeze in winter. Have a backup generator. Hope you like BBQ. Bring a dish to pot lucks and don’t pretend to be what you ain’t (i.e. wait a while to get a Cowboy Hat & Boots until you learn what looks right…)

          Oh, and they do get occasional gully washers & frog stranglers so don’t get a house in the bottom of a wash or down hill from a big catchment basin. A foot of rain in an hour all arriving from 100 square miles “at the bottom” can ruin your day. Flood maps will tell you where that’s at…

          Texans are famous for having (slightly) more brains than guns. When my son graduated basic training (1988), I’ll never forget the drill sergeant reaming out a graduating soldier… “goddamit kid…you need to be at least 5% smarter than your goddamn rifle!!!!!!! ”
          And that was a graduate, not a washout. Come to think of it he/she/xe looked a bit like General Milley.

  22. When the site goes down I always consider / (dread) the real possibility of government / big technology censorship. That day may come. Until then: “Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!” Well, it is my feeling that the unequivocating truths presented here embolden that spirit.

  27. Here in Kneehill County, cell service has been down since about 1100 hr. Related? I flip open my phone, and it says “Emergency Calls Only”. Other people with “smart” phones are getting the same message.
