You might recall the recent documentary showing the downfall of Seattle. I sent this video to about 250 friends. One, a devout Democrat in Chicago, passed it onto her sister, who relocated to Seattle several years ago.
The response back from her sister was rather stunning. She referred to the documentary as “right wing propaganda” and provided this article as some kind of defense of the destructive policies of the Far Left city council and mayor. Just stop for a moment to put yourselves in the shoes of this Seattle woman. Every day she witnesses abject poverty and drug addled, mentally ill people throughout her community. She has firsthand evidence of this but yet she can’t let her mind open even a crack to the possibility that the policies of the people she has repeatedly voted for are the cause of all this. Amazing.
Update: Directly related to the cognitive dissonance of those who vote for Leftist policies but can’t seem to connect the dots to the disastrous outcomes of those policies.

I too shared it with many. Including a relative who lives in Seattle and who’s spouse works for city council.
They tell me that the people who run the city are nuts. So open minded their brains have fallen out.
As soon as they can retire Seattle will be in the rear view mirror.
I’m curious if the Seattle city council worker you know sees a successful way out of the mess they’re in? Or do they plan on leaving Seattle at some point?

We’ve had a similar experience here in Victoria. We have a city council and mayor commited to making life in the core of the city as miserable as possible. Every major arterial road has been destroyed to put in bike lanes. Traffic is a nightmare.
That was phase one. Phase two was to have every park populated with drug addicts 24/7. There’s tent cities in all of them. Next up they bought a bunch of low end motels and filled them up with yet more addicts.
Addicts from all over the province and country have flocked into our city. Crime is off the charts and getting worse. Property crime is basically just expected.
What’s worse is now violent crime is on the rise. It started with a steady stream of replica guns turning up and various drug rips between campers. Now we’re onto real weapons and yesterday a daylight shooting / targeted hit.
And still people don’t associate the leftist policies with what’s happening! It’s all because of covid and blumpf or something.

2nd – The writer of the article (who works for some Transit Riders Union, or some other leftie advocacy group – bias showing here) blames the morass on “societal issues” such as Big Pharma, lack of subsidized housing, etc. At least she does not deny that the problems exist. That, at least, is something.
However, she fails to look at why other cities, usually Republican ones, do not have these problems to the same extent. What is the difference? Answer – a left leaning city council, and their policies.
Simple science – take two similar situations, one producing a dying economy, and one producing a successful economy, and ask what is the one variable, the one input, that made the difference?
The answer, from Venezuela to TCDouglass’s Saskatchewan, to Calgary today, is embarrassingly consistent – electing lefties, under the guise of “caring.”
Going left in your elections leads to a certain self-congratulatory aura of moral superiority, followed by economic and social collapse. There are no exceptions.
(And please don’t go on about Norway. The only way they support their social network is by drilling like bandits in the North Sea – one area the lefties are not willing to let us move towards.)

Yeah Notta, I gave up half way too. I don’t think there is a cure for this disease, and as the more affluent escape to other states/provinces, they carry the disease with them. Perhaps there should be a ten year delay in allowing a new resident any permission to vote. This was suggested by another poster here on SDA a few days ago. It might be a valid point.

The leftist leaders and their zombie cult will never understand that it has only been the benevolence of those of us on the right that have allowed them to be in the positions that they have today. I have my doubts on the people rising up. They have a high tolerance for lost liberty and prosperity, especially others’.
Look at Venezuela. By the time her people realized their birthright and democracy had been stolen from them, it was too late.

What some have commented on here already is the failure of conservative thought. Denying today’s consumption for tomorrow’s benefit. Progressives promise ‘free stuff’ and cloud accountability in social justice. Combine that with their control of the education system, media and the public sector.
But the conservative movement have known this for over 40 years. Yet they have not made any effort to combat the status quo. It is hardly about a question of a media vehicle to get their message out. There is no message. People love Jordan Petersen because of his musings. Does conservative thought embrace him? If they do I don’t see it. If O’Toole was a CPC leader who truly wanted to chart a different course he would have sat down with Max Bernier within a week of becoming leader. If there is no commonality of thought between O’Toole and Bernier, no method of bridging that divide, then there is little hope for change. Has conservative thought been consumed by the same force of social justice that progressives live by? Is the process of decision making, considering concepts, to be decided by the appeal of reward today or the soundbite that haunts? The fabric that binds us together is being destroyed and I see no process to prevent that.
The posters on this thread despair that all is lost, everywhere, but particularly in cities, as to the dominance of the radicall left. But the comments fail to realize how democracy works. Prospective leaders have to register as candidates; they have to finance and run a local campaign; voters get to obtain a ballot, and go into a private voter’s booth and check off candidates for mayor and city council.
So far, through this process, the voters are checking off votes to elect radical leftist candidates.
The left, in the U.S. but particularly in Canada, is far better organized and financed than conservatives and moderates. This results in easy political wins, particularly in local elections, where local non-left organizations are nonexistent. I mean, how can Mayor Nenshi win in conservative Calgary?

Fully agree. The CPC (and the PPC) should be organizing card writing campaigns. But the idea probably has not entered their minds.
Politicians just want to get elected, take home a fat paycheque and simply let the unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats screw everything up.
