“While some state regulatory agencies, … do have the power to restrict oil & gas production within their respective jurisdictions, I am not aware of any comparable powers at the Federal level.”
Mr. Middleton never heard of the crude oil export ban that prohibited most crude oil exports from the United States to other countries from 1975 to December 2015?
Trump doesn’t see a need for a Federally mandated cut as US drillers are “already slowing their output for economic reasons”. Middleton: “I would not be surprised to see US oil production fall by 2 million bbl/d from the 2019 peak by early 2021”
I understand that the average temperatures in the Canadian North are way below seasonal average, as they are here in SW Sask. Why isn’t that data on the CBC??

-10C in Calgary. Last year I had completed three rounds of golf on my local course by this date.
I remember my student days. By the middle of April the grass was green. That was back in the cold 1970s. Today, a few days short of the Ides of April, there is 2 or 3 feet of snow in my field. About 45 to 50 years ago it would get so hot we would be forced to hike down Whyte Avenue to the Park or Strathcona Hotel just after noon and sit there until we were booted out after midnight. Such was the life of a student before global warming. Back in 1915 – 1918 farmers, in my local community north of Edmonton, had their crops in. It keeps getting colder and they keep telling us it’s warmer. WTF is going on?
“The latest report from Ontario’s critical-care system on Friday showed just two additional coronavirus patients admitted to an ICU anywhere in the province the day before.” “…almost 78 per cent of the province’s expanded intensive-care capacity remained free” and, “almost 78 per cent of the province’s ventilator capacity – expanded to try to meet the pandemic demand – was still available”!
“Quebec has seen a modest eight to 10 COVID-19 admissions to the ICU over recent days, and none at all from April 7 to April 8”
We are doing very well in Canada. New active cases per day keeps dropping, now it’s around 450. Quebec is lagging with their recovery stats, so the situation may even be better than we think.
OK Allan, why are we shutting down our country, destroying the income of millions of people for a virus that has between a 98-99% survival rate?

L- 6 million tablets arrived by the end of March, 4 million more by mid-April. A million surgical masks is a pretty good deal, given how cheap they are, and while helpful. It’s Hydroxy-Chloroquine that saves lives in hospitals, both patients and medical staff and will allow the American economy to avoid a second shutdown as large as this one.
As for Canada, no one is demanding either the Trudeau government or the provincial governments to divulge how many doses are here and future supply details. India supplied the rest of 29 million to the U.S. . India is now using Hydroxy-choloquine as a prophylactic for the Chinese virus. Late to the Reader Tips party, but I just read this great article by the BBC. It’s why some smart people still believe global warming is a thing and is man made.
My favorite line from the article: “Fortunately, psychologists are already studying this phenomenon. And what they find might suggest new ways to protect ourselves from lies and help stem the spread of this misinformation and foolish behaviour.” Thank God for psychologists…the only rational people left on Earth. Hahahaha.
And this gem…something our own brilliant Catherine McKenna knows all too well: “Even the simple repetition of a statement – whether the same text, or over multiple messages – can increase the “truthiness” by increasing feelings of familiarity, which we mistake for factual accuracy. So, the more often we see something in our news feed, the more likely we are to think that it’s true – even if we were originally sceptical.”
“Even some world leaders – who you would hope to have greater discernment when it comes to unfounded rumours – have been guilty of spreading inaccurate information about the risk of the outbreak and promoting unproven remedies that may do more harm than good, leading Twitter and Facebook to take the unprecedented step of removing their posts.”
That says more about the BBC’s view than it does those world leaders. They still think that they get to define what is true.
Fake news at its worst.
Never let money get between Liberals and human rights – Saudi oil has always been perferable than Alberta’s.
“We are troubled by the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia, particularly with women’s rights,” Champagne said.
“The agreement was signed despite a diplomatic dispute between the two nations which erupted in August 2018 after Canada criticized Saudi Arabia over human rights.”
The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it. Power is what all messiahs really seek: not the chance to serve. This is true even of the pious brethren who carry their gospel to foreign parts.
Today is the 59th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s one and only flight in space and the 39th anniversary of the launch of the space shuttle Columbia with John Young and Bob Crippen.
Further to my comments about Apollo 13, starting at:
Lovell planned on retiring after that mission. He had 2 weeks on board Gemini VII with Frank Borman (described as being 14 days in a men’s room–in a space no much bigger than a phone booth). He flew for nearly 4 days with Buzz Aldrin on Gemini XII. He, along with Borman and Bill Anders, went to the moon with Apollo 8. Apollo 13 was going to be his crowning achievement.
One reason that Haise and Swigert never flew again was because of the flight rotation. Around that time, the originally planned Apollo 18, 19, and 20 missions were cancelled. The government needed the money for them because of the war in Viet Nam, plus there were fears that eventually there would be a catastrophic mishap and a crew would definitely be lost.
The remaining Apollo flights were already being planned, so the crews for them were either selected or about to be. Neither Haise nor Swigert would have been eligible for a lunar mission because it wouldn’t have been their turn.
In addition, preparations were being made for Skylab. I don’t know if either Haise or Swigert weren’t interested or if the crews had already been chosen, but after Skylab 4, there was no plans to send Americans into space after that. It was only during Apollo 16 that Richard Nixon announced the space shuttle and that wouldn’t have been ready for nearly a decade.
Also, in a post here at SDA there were photos of flying objects around the moon. Fake or not? See April 10th “Oddments for the weekend”, look for “moon whales detected.” Looks odd alright!
A radio telescope on the far side of the moon was considered for many years. It would be a good location, being free of any terrestrial radio frequency interference.
As for the “whales”, they could have been small asteroids that hadn’t been detected as it’s not unusual for planetary debris to pass through cislunar space. If so, they might not have been large enough to appear on radar, particularly at that distance. After all, nobody knew about the Chelyabinsk meteor until it exploded in the atmosphere.

Re: Second point:
Asteroids, of course!
(Though, everything is a UFO to me)
As I was driving north on a remote highway in N.B. years ago, I once saw something strange in the sky through the smoke glass part of the upper part of the windshield of my car. It was a blinking white light that was not visible through the clear glass part of the windshield. As I drove I kept an eye on it for a few miles until I couldn’t see it anymore.
Very strange indeed. It kept me amused, to say the least!
Maybe, that’s what the Chinese were doing recently on the far side of the moon, exploring the possibilities of same.
There have been stories that the Chinese have been considering such a facility.
It was a blinking white light that was not visible through the clear glass part of the windshield.
It could have been an aircraft. I often see planes passing overhead at night several km above me as their lights are clearly visible.
Perhaps I should’ve mentioned that it was dusk. The lights were visible only through the smoke glass and not the clear glass. My head bobbed … why should it not be visible through the clear part?
Brain was screaming U.F.O. ….U.F.O.
I’m thinking that the darker part of the windshield filtered out the ambient light or what might have been reflected off any clouds.
Now that’s interesting.
I grew up by an airbase and knew the names of all of the war planes.
I used to build and fly balsa model airplanes, rubber bands and gas engine ones. McCoy and Enya engines. Started into RC models also (still have them) but city life got in the way of that.
And I still have my original plastic model AVRO ARROW from the 1960s with only one missing landing gear. Plastic model cars also were also favorite of mine.
Hay, who needed a computer or cell phone back then?
LOL
Someone needs to go to jail.

And I still have my original plastic model AVRO ARROW from the 1960s with only one missing landing gear. Plastic model cars also were also favorite of mine.
