The Libranos: SNC Lavalin

it’s the sort of thing that can destroy governments.

I don’t know who the Globe’s sources are, and I’ve learned that attempts to guess another reporter’s sources usually miss the mark by a mile. But let me make this general observation about the Liberal Party of Canada and Justin Trudeau’s PMO. In recent months I have been increasingly critical of the PMO and especially of Trudeau’s principal secretary, Gerald Butts. Frankly it hasn’t been great fun. I don’t get a kick out of being that specific in criticisms of a government. And typically, when you say “PM’s staff,” no matter who the PM is, what you really mean is “the PM.” But the way this government hoses money around for show sickens me.

What I’ve noticed is that when I have been bluntly critical of Trudeau’s PMO, no Liberal in Canada, outside the PMO, has reached out to criticize me, to gently try to correct perceptions, or otherwise to suggest I’m off-track. In fact, in a large number of cases, the response has been quite the opposite. I hear things like “Thank God” and “About time” and “I’ve been loving those columns.”

Sure. Let’s check back again in October.

Update: Wilson-Raybould’s father, Bill Wilson, said in a Facebook post Thursday that his daughter’s cabinet demotion “makes sense now — ugly political sense.” He predicted “history will prove that she did the right thing.”

    1. Ezra seems confident that Notley will be voted out during the next election. He has good lawyers and they go to court in mid March. He will win. I support him.

Just a thought, perhaps they ought to rebrand? Something like
“Levant News Network” aka LNN. The ‘babies’ are too scared of the word “Rebel” and always want to smack poor gentlemen reporters like the Menzoid.

      1. Nancy, I agree with your point about The Rebel’s name. (I say this as a person who, on my father’s side, is descended from people who lived in North and South Carolina, and who fought for the Confederacy). It is true that rebels can be fighting for any sort of rebellion, including non-military revolutions, like rebelling against politically-correct elitism. This is how Ezra means for The Rebel to be seen. But his hard-left detractors will smear the outlet, hinting that the mefia outlet is pro-Condereracy. That’s incorrect logic, but the left-wing elites would hardly care.

        1. The left wingers are not a demographic that will subscribe to his news outlet. I would bet that “Rebel” gets him a lot of attention and a good chunk of subscribers — all those people who are mad at governments around the world. And some of them probably think of themselves as rebels.

    2. i just have a feeling Kenney won’t be any better towards the Rebel. He doesn’t like anyone critical of Muslims and doesn’t seem to want anything to do with the Rebel.

    3. Bad move on Notley’s part. I am sure a lot of Albertan’s like the rebel and her action does seem like an effort to close down the free press. Can you imagine what would happen if Trump tried to sue all those media outlets who say something negative about him.

    4. I’m with you on the Name Change…it would do them a world of good.

As for the Communists with their “adverse findings”….Classic NKVD stuff. (aka: we dont like you ’cause you tell the Truth and we cant have that..!!).

I dont know why Ezra and company don’t counter sue. Maybe he’s waiting till the elction is over. I’d love to see a 1/2+ million dollar judgement against this pile of SWINE.
      Bring on that Election…already..!!

As or the Rebel, it’s the only News source up here that I find for the most part straight up and honest.

      1. I’m a premium subscriber to the Rebel. I seldom look at it.

Rebel stories for the most part are ‘over the top’. I get it that that is their style.

There area lot of news sources out there. Like the cbc the Rebel is one of them.

  1. “Let’s check back in October.” I agree, by the end of February the media will have buried this and sunny ways will be back and PM Butts will be lecturing us on how the Canadian resource economy needs to be destroyed. We have our own Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez right in the PMO and the plan is being fulfilled.

    1. Ken, absolutely right. February’s scandals are long forgotten by April, and aided by a compliant msm, the virtues of Justin will be front a page news every day from now to election day.

We have witnessed too many of these so-called “Bombshells” down in the USA that resulted in absolutely nothing, to get excited about allegations against the PMO. If there IS any truth to these allegations, and IF Wilson-Raybould is the noble person she pretends to be, there should be an inquiry, but what Liberal shill or Pierre Trudeau/Jean Chretien appointed Judge would head said commission?

Gomery was a complete waste of time and money and even the dumbest taxpayers began to see how thoroughly corrupt the political system in Canada is, so let’s not get our hopes up that “justice” will ever be done.

If the heat DOES build up, would Justin throw his oldest friend and bosom buddy Gerald Butts under the bus? I don’t think so, Trudeau would probably appoint him to the Senate. (Ambassador to Denmark has already been done.)

      1. Gomery wasn’t a waste of time. It pointed out how corrupt the libranos are. They were defeated.

This is more of the same. Potential very dangerous to the libranos.

And why was JWR sitting in on every cabinet meeting? In the British tradition the countries top lawyer is independent of the government and does attend to the day to day operations of government.

        1. They lost a battle. They’re still winning the war.

Adscam should have earned the Liberal Party of Canada the fate that befell the PC Party in 1993. Obliteration. Destruction to such a degree that the party could never again amount to spit. But no, Canada just can’t do that to Big Daddy Liberal. They got put into timeout for a long time, then he-of-the-nice-hair became leader, and voila! all is forgiven, majority power once more. The natural governing party restored to its rightful place.

Even if the Trudeau government fell, the LPOC would still be there, still corrupt, awaiting its next turn on the government side of the House.

    2. It doesn’t take a complicit media to kill this story, it takes a stupid, gullible, and corrupt people to forget it. That is what we have in canada; people too stupid, gullible, and corrupt to remember which hand they use to wipe their azz.

What proof of this, just look at the damn election that put turdeau in place. They voted him in solely because of his name. That’s all.
You don’t get this level of stupid by accident and you certainly don’t recover from it by a few stories of corruption.

The guy is a pothead, groper and assaulter, liar, thief, etc and the list goes on. It doesn’t matter, not one whim. His name is trudeau and at least a third of the population want this behaviour, they need this behaviour.

The next election will go back to trudeau, with even more majority. This isn’t pessimism, it is reality.

You can’t fix stupid, all you can do is smash its head against a wall and we aren’t there yet in canada, not sure we’ll ever be there.

    3. Correct Ken. The average Canadian only has a political attention span of seven days even if the story stays out there.

    1. “When you’ve lost Paul Wells…a Freeland might be in your future…”

I doubt very much that turdo has lost Paul Wells. This was a fluff piece with two objectives:

      1. A friendly shot across the bows to urge a course correction
      2. An attempt to make Wells and MacLeans look objective.

      Ahem…..

      turdo has a hemorrhoid
      He calls it Polly Wells
      It’s pudgy, pink,
      And spits out ink
      And really, really, smells

  2. Me thinks the media is only scratching the surface on the Libranos.
“the way this government hoses money around for show sickens me.”
    Really. Do tell.
I want to hear more, More, MOAR.
Tell me its more than a $16 glass of orange juice…. Or something other than a private loan.

To the Canadian media. You went out of your way to tear the Harper govt from power.
You inserted this pathetic excuse of a PM because of his looks and bullshit platform.
You are nothing but $570 million dollar whores.
Now you have unlimited exposure to a do nothing POS LIEberal trust fund entitled f*ck who DOESN’T deserve being PM.
Who in the end tells you nothing.
Who talks down to commoners about feminism while groping women without regard.
Taxing “the rich” while exempting and creating loopholes for tax dodging trust fund elites.
Who has made Canada a laughing stock internationally.
Who has failed miserably at a “free” trade deal (ADDING NEW SANCTIONS AND KEEPING TARRIFS) with our BEST trading partner.
You will not have done your job until you take the Trudeau govt behind the woodshed and give them “what for” and relegate them to the 2019 version of Kim Campbell.

    1. Quicksilver, I agree. We are now a fascist regime run like a banana republic. This whole fiasco stinks. The Canadian Press on Thursday evening were saying things like “bigger than Sponsorship Scandal” and “Inquiry”….. well, well, they woke! I’m shocked!

  3. All this hand wringing about PMO impropriety by the msm lately is probably just theater for us peasants who have said the media has been bought by this government.

They know very well that October is a long way off,and once they “prove” their virtue, they can get back to sniping at all Trudeau’s opposition, as usual.

When this story if front page every day for two weeks or longer, like the Duffy scandal, then the msm can claim to be fair. They harangued Bev Oda for weeks on end of a glass of orange juice and kept up the pressure on Harper/Duffy for two years. let’s see some of the same before I will be convinced this is nothing but a show.

    1. This is big. The Justice Department has been politically interfered with. Thursday evening Chantal Hébert said that in an earlier era the Minister would have resigned. They were bleating “Inquiry, this is worse than the Sponsorship Scandal!” We shall see.

      1. It’s been decades since a minster was forced to resign because of malfeasance.

Frances Fox was forced to take the high jump (temporarily) and John Fraser got caught in a lie (as did Mulroney) over tainted tuna. Fraser was forced to step down.

That pretty much ended ministerial responsibility in Canada. Now ministers stonewall until the issue goes away or announce they are stepping down to spend more time with their family…..think Thcott brison.

  4. Scandals don’t bring down governments anymore. It’s 2019 and responsible government is dead.

  5. “don’t get a kick out of being that specific in criticisms of a government.”

This is puzzling. Why wouldn’t he? Canadian journos get really solicitous when it comes to hurting liberal feelings.
Of course, it might have something to do with that cozy pic of him sucking up to justin.
He just doesn’t like being specific with this government.

      1. He is, but he also hinted that a some loyal traditional Liberals are getting sick of the clique running the show. My local MP is a Liberal and her local news communique makes her seem like a social convener or something. I believe back benchers are shut out of policy discussions and decisions, and a LOT of people do not like what Trudeau and Butts are doing. The local MP’s if they run again will not fare well in an election. Many of this government’s decisions will be hard to defend.

    1. Perhaps the last paragraph should clear up where the media is going with this:

” But the conclusion I draw is: Justin Trudeau’s senior PMO staff doesn’t have a lot of fans, even among people who wish Trudeau well and whose personal futures are bound up with his. That may start to matter a lot now.”

When he writes “senior PMO staff” you have to be dumb as a post to not know the two people being referred to, and the phrasing makes an effort to not lay blame on the Sockmonkey. More specifically the media is still in denial that “I Justin” is capable of any such skulduggery so it just has to be someone else’s fault. ….. if any of this is true ….
That and the team of Butts/Telford has from the sound of it, has worn out their welcome in official Ottawa and the media would be quite happy if they would just pack up and leave. In other words they have their columns written and ready to file about PMO staffers leaving under a cloud of suspicion. If so, then one asks, why hasn’t the media in lock step fingered Butts as the problem with the question of why hasn’t he been shown the door?
      Why indeed?
Butts and the Sockmonkey go back a ways, and are quite close. The Sockmonkey likely gets all his information filtered to him through Butts, “if its important someone will tell” him applies here. I doubt even cabinet can pierce that barrier.
But let me cut to the chase why this matters.
Justin is the liberal campaign platform without justin, they got nothing.
But justin is an empty suit whose only skill is that he knows how to read a script and has absolutely no political sixth sence.
      Thats where Butts comes in.
Butts is the script writer that manages the sausage making that the Sockmonkey hasn’t the brains or the will to do.
Without Butts, all the Sockmonkey can do is smile and wave, if he starts speaking for himself its a disaster.
The liberals need an operative and currently thats Butts, however Gerald has made enemies in the media the liberals expect to stay on side.

Want to know how to get the media to give bad press? Tell them you own them.
It doesn’t work if everyone tells them they are paid schills for the liberals. Plausible deniability or cognitive dissonance kicks in and the media (believing they always speak truth to power = incorruptible) and they get defensive.
But should someone in the PMO let that little nugget come out, the press gallery as a whole will make it their sole mission to see the current PMO staff replaced.
And without Butts, there is no adult supervision on the Sockmonkey.

      1. The way they have behaved, it’s obvious there is no adult supervision at all, no Butts about it.

      2. I just had a thought. If things get too hot for Butts, they (the globalists) could possibly bring in David Miller to replace him. Miller (like Butts before him), is being groomed at the World Wildlife Fund to push the globalist agenda. I am sure he will show up in Ottawa sooner or later. Of course there is no guarantee that Miller and sockmonkey would be compatible.

        1. That too has a danger to it, no matter who gets the job.
1 – they won’t get Butts out if they don’t have a replacement.
2 – even if they find one, it doesn’t happen unless Butts is leaving.
3 – Butts isn’t leaving unless he resigns or is fired.
4 – for that to happen the Sockmonkey has to believe its neccessary and finally
5 – someone has to get to the Sockmonkey to convince him he needs new staff.

Now time is not on their side right now. The media still maintains its protected status on the Sockmonkey but the PMO staff has no such immunity.
How long will it be until the Sockmonkey publicly defends his friend from “theeth bathlith attackth from conthervativths”.
          Thats the trap.
If the Sockmonkey makes specific reference to Butts then he looks like he’s covering for him, and if he doesn’t and the story doesn’t go away the pressure to fire him does.

          Prediction
Once they develop the exit strategy Butts and Telford will be leaving.

      3. PMO advisors are universally despised by MP’s. They hold sway over every aspect of an MP’s life. If you fall afoul of the principle advisor- mail it in, it’s over for you.

T1 had a coupla of real pricks as advisors. Keith (the rainmaker) Davey and the especially vile Jimmy Coutts. Herb Grey, one of da liddle thief’s insiders deserves special mention.

So MP’s hating jerry butts isn’t anything new. Most MP’s think they are cabinet ministers or better when in reality they are not.

  6. Trudeau the blabbering twit was so definite in his denial he will fall hard, this is a huge story and I believe it.
Jody Wilson-Raybould is about the best he’s got and she got demoted, hope she speaks out on it, there’s a lot of smoke around this one.

    1. She spoke out on the Bouchie trial. Not good form for a “Justice Minister”. She won’t say anything.

  7. Huge kudos to Jody Wilson-Raybould! That takes some serious cajones to stand up to that kind of pressure and actually do the right thing in government.

    Thank you.

    1. @Johnboy:
If Raybould has the goods on Turdoo, I am worried that she will keep silent in return
for a big payoff(like a future promotion). She is just a politician and I have a low opinion of those critters
as there are too few honourable, moral and honest ones.

  8. I wanted to question those on this thread who sound very bitter towards our compliant, pro-Liberal media, and who say that nothing will come of this emerging scandal. I wanted to disagree with this consensus, but there are several points that suggest that Trudeau could survive the scandal:

    — the media have to dig up new hard evidence to make sure this story has legs. Ms. Wilson-Rebound doing something dramatic (resigning?) would help;

    — the story could continue through the spring, but when summer comes, all of the lead reporters go on vacation, political discussions die out, and when the September/October election comes, the scandal dies out;

    — the major media corporations are without a doubt left wing. The big media love Trudeau’s left wing politics. Why would they prolong and investigate this scandal, given all the left-wing policies Trudeau promotes?

The real scandal is the incestuous relationship between the Liberals and the major media. The fine Globe and Mail report could be a one off. There is after all a $600-million bribe money out there to be had.

    1. If I read the subtext correctly, the media are still maintaining the Sockmonkey’s protected species status, its Butts and Telford they have in their sights.
Right now the problem is how to get some new babysitters before the media starts demanding those two be cashiered.
If the meme starts developing that the Sockmonkey is protecting these two his protected status will be put at risk.
“Why is he protecting those responsible”?
“What do they have on him that he would need to protect them”?
“Maybe he’s not protecting them, maybe he’s part of it?”
What lights such a powder keg of allegations is if the media gets the sense that the PMO sees them as the enemy.
And from the gist of Wells column it appears thats the case.

    2. DM, the big problem now, is the CPC does not have a saleable Leader. When the Gomery commission embarrassed the Liberals, a year later Harper won a minority government, but there is a big difference between the image of Harper then and the image of Scheer now. I don’t remember any conservative mocking Stephen Harper THEN the way they do Andrew Scheer now. Harper was a serious candidate,Scheer?

The media do not see the bailout as scandalous, merely the government assisting a what they see as an essential industry, one Canada could not survive without. As Fotheringham said in his 1980’s book,”Birds of a Feather”, the media considers themselves and the politicians an intellectual elite, far above the smelly masses, and natural allies out side their work.

  9. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/politics/singh-wants-investigation-in-snc-lavalin-case/ar-BBTjQrd?li=AAggXBV
‘Wilson-Raybould’s father, Bill Wilson, said in a Facebook post Thursday that his daughter’s cabinet demotion “makes sense now — ugly political sense.” He predicted “history will prove that she did the right thing.”‘

When PM PantsOnFire gets re-elected with a majority, she’ll no longer be in cabinet.
Coxsuckers Butts &Telford will continue to work in the shadows, without any regard for democracy.
At least 60% of Canadians are hardcore neo-Marxists. They love Dear Leader.

  10. It shouldn’t have to destroy governments.

Justin Sinclair, son of Margaret by an unknown father, ought to be rotting in prison for child molestation, and we should never have needed to have this discussion.

More to the point, Canada should not be having its leadership handpicked by the Chinese Communist Party.

  11. I assume it is impolite to notice that the charges against SNC-Lav are predominantly about the company bribing politicians and unelected government officials — and then wonder if there were any similar cough…arrangements…cough with politicians and government officials in Canada. According to the criminal charges, it is/was just the way SNC-Lav did business. Since the Liberal party appears to have passed new laws and fired a cabinet minister specifically to help SNC, I’d think the RCMP and other relevant investigative bodies would want to see if SNC was using tried and true methods to get politicians to do their bidding. The Liberal seemed to be willing to go to any lengths, above and beyond normal processes for even a Quebec company ,to assist SNC-Lav….why?

If there’s any recordings, a paper trail, or corroborating reports from MPs or public employees that indicates there was more than just lobbying, then the Liberals will be in shit up to their eyeballs.

  12. I lay All of this corrupt shit at the feet of the Quebec people. Anyone who has worked or dealt with French Canadian companies of ANY kind can and in this case I have myself, Have wtinessed large cash deals, “Gifts” , paying workers under the table, taking graft big time. Payola is a way of life with these people. SNC Lavalin just the tip of the iceberg.

To suggest that our Federal Government with a predominately Quebec FRENCH Public Service is immune to that..?? is equal to believing the Earth is Flat. I totally buy Justin doing this on the bidding of the the Laurentien Elites (Desmarais Family.? the REAL power in Quebec..?), or Others..its the way they do business and it’s been that way forever.

Will the story have legs..?? Only if the ex Justice minister shows she actually has some balls and testifies…and if she does, I susect we would see her expire in some unexplained “accident”….this Gang operates like the Clintons.

    1. There will be no testimony as currently there is no investigation.
Right now there is an outbreak of random acts of journalism.
If this is to go anywhere the media needs to believe someone did something newsworthy.
For it to be problematic for the liberals someone inside the liberal fold (a backbench MP, a staffer) would have to do something to piss off the Ottawa press gallery.
      We ain’t there just yet.
But the weekend is coming and the Sockmonkey has a pathological need for media attention.
      Its all in the timing.

      1. According to Wikipedia SNC Lavalin’s revenue in 2015 was 9.587 billion in 2015. 50,000 employees in 2017. Sockmonkey, as you call him, might really be caught between a rock and a hard place. His loyalty to K Bec may be his undoing. Hell, he’d probably drown every Canadian Indian in bitumen for his Patrie.

    2. Why isn’t anyone outraged over Duhaime’s slap on the wrist sentence? It should have been ten times Elbaz’s sentence. But that would be a disincentive to all other Canadian CEOs that would tend to discourage bribery, wouldn’t it?

    3. I agree it is probably the worst in Quebec, but the Laurentian elite have created a filthy system where the government chooses winners and losers, and the – only slightly less – corrupt voters tolerate, no, reward it, in election after election, probably because they feel it provides them security in their jobs.

All those precious, smug, Liberal voters will swallow Trudle’s fix, without hesitation.

  13. Canadian media, being propped up by the Librano cabal, will do their best to make sure that most voters never hear of this. Our local “news”paper is all anti Trump, all the time. Making sure that no residents of Thunder Bay vote for him?

  14. Neil Bruce, president and CEO of SNC-Lavalin, met 79 times with senior government officials where the issues of “justice and law enforcement” were raised. (Brian Lilley reported in the Sun).

Definitely something fishy going on. Oops, my bad it’s not fish, it’s sewage from Quebec rising to the top. 🙁

  15. Wilson-Rayboud should become the first People’s Party MP, as a rebuke to Sche(m)er and Trudles.

  16. I couldn’t find a topic to post this to, and it is too good to file it away so I’m posting here;

To all the trolls that occasionally visit and post here, enjoy/sarc!. To all the regular commentators I hope you enjoy this enough that you will pass it on.

On another topic about the Rebel logo perhaps an alternative logo could be the White Cockade or the Blue Bonnets, both symbols of the “rebel” ancestors that incorporated the Arbroath document and the Second Amendment into the American Constitution.
