Andrew, I have been a small-c conservative for a long time now, having starting to write for obscure Canadian conservative newsletters, etc., from the late 1980s on, and for conservative think tanks. I am a believing Christian, a ministry worker, who goes to church every Sunday. I just want to make these points:

          — the Bible’s discussion of history is fairly good, where there are thousands of published and unpublished manuscripts, plus ongoing archeological finds, to back up the Bible’s history;

          — much, or the majority, of Biblical writing teaches a normative, moral lesson. I myself study the moral teachings of Jesus Christ, and in my readings focus on that. Are you sure you want to say that “all of the Bible is false”? The past three Sundays, at our small Baptist Church, I led our adult Sunday school class of Christ’s teachings on forgiveness. One point brought out in the class is that marriages, and friendships in general, last if the people involved forgive each other and make up. Much of our stable, law-abiding social structure rests on Judeo-Christian rules.

          And so it goes. The Judeo-Christian culture, of which founded Western society, underpins the success of the West. Judeo-Christian thinking is threatened by the well-organized left (e.g.: Barack Obama and Justin Trudeau, the corporate mefia) principally because the left disagrees with the normative thought of Jews and Christians. — David Murrell in Fredericton.

Over many years of investigating the mechanics of global events and the people behind them I have become perhaps a little obsessed with one particular subject – the source and motivations of evil.   10. The main story at the Toronto Star website today, is the plight of Syrian refugees in Canada. Apparently the racist bastards in Canada are not giving them enough free stuff. Heart breaking story of a family that only has one TV set and lives in basic government funded housing. According to the Star over ONE BILLION DOLLARS has been spent on Syrian refugees so far. I wonder how much its going to cost us for all those migrants from Libya? One billion dollars would have gone a long way to improving housing on reserves or buying needed military equipment, etc. etc.

      #34 is a short-haired dackel and, if it’s anything like the last one in my family, it’ll figure out how to get rid of the spoon rather quickly.

      #12 is definitely like the little guy. Whenever I have him over at my house and I’m eating something, he always gives me this “I’m a poor hungry dog” look, which, of course, I have little resistance to.

      As I tell people, he never eats human food–he inhales it. Put it in front of him, whether is some bacon and eggs or a piece of steak, it’s gone in the blink of an eye.

      After my father died, he became quite protective of me. I know the two of them became inseparable after my mother’s death, partly, I think, because the critter felt it was his duty to look after my father. Now that both of my parents are gone, I think the dackel is doing the same for me.

        1. The first dachshund in the family was a long-haired mini like the one shown in the video. She was quite a clever critter, though she had the habit of rolling over onto her back at just about any time, sticking her legs into the air, and expecting to have her belly scratched.

          The last one is a short-haired mini. Whenever we play “go und get it”, and he doesn’t see where the toy of choice lands, he looks for it. To him, that’s fun and his tail is constantly wagging.

          Sometimes, though, he can go right by that toy as if he doesn’t see it. He’s only 9, so it might not be vision problems. I suspect that he could be quite focused on what he’s doing that he doesn’t notice much else. Another possibility is that he’s distracted by a smell as, when we play outside, he tends to keep his nose close to the ground.
