I’ve been reading about this and the more you read, the weirder it gets. Basically, the researchers came up with a new method of estimating the increased heat content by measuring a proxy (the change in concentration of O2 and CO2) and then plugging that into a computer model. That’s where the there’s 60% more heating of the oceans numbers came from. Those numbers were then fed into another model, a climate computer model, to come up with the scary scenarios. So a proxy, a model and another model. The media, being rather dense, accepted and repeated it as gospel.
The standard method of measuring ocean temps and heat content changes is by direct measurement using thermometers on old ARGOs, new improved ARGOs and ship water temperature measurements.
Defying all reason, using some type of instrumentation to measure a proxy and then plugging into a computer model is somehow *more* accurate than a direct temp measurement. It is like estimating your height by calculating your lung capacity and comparing it to a statistical model rather than using a tape measure. You’re introducing all kinds of new errors and assumptions. This is bizarre science by itself but appears there was also mathematical and statistical errors.
Looks like the climate science researchers were attempting to baffle with bullshit to -once again- exaggerate global warming. And -once again- the media fell for it hook, line and sinker.
There ought to a law that in order to call yourself a journalist, you need to have read more than one study.

Another thing to notice is that climate alarmists have to be dragged kicking and screaming to get them to give you the change in heat of the oceans in degrees Celsius since 1950. Estimates range from .07C-.12C per decade. Just like most journalists don’t understand how small the change in average global temperatures really is. It’s hard to continually make up The End is Nigh headlines when those numbers are .12C per decade (satellite) or .16C per decade (surface monitors).
The knowledge that there might be 1.2C-1.6C of additional warming in 100 years would elicit no more than a shrug for most people. Especially since the majority of that warming will be in cold countries like Canada resulting from milder winters and warmer nights, not hotter summers and warmer days. Fewer winter deaths (human and animal), slightly shorter winter heating and longer growing seasons in cold climates aren’t very scary, I suppose.
2 million years ago there were trees and beavers on Ellesmere Island, the most northerly island in Canada. Thus the planet was a LOT warmer back then and the planet is still here.

One the one hand, they are making our lives miserable with their pseudo science of CAGW, but on the other hand … what would these substandard “scientists” do for a living if the world woke up and dispensed with the entire “climate change industrial complex”? Would they become nuclear power plant engineers? God NO!! Would they become engineers for Bombadier, designing “tomorrow’s” jet aircraft and busses? Oh Hell NO!! Would they be added to the sprawling Apple campus designing the newest generation of iPhones? Ha! They wouldn’t get past the initial job interview.
So what to do with all these “environmental sciences” graduates? Perhaps they should “do what they know” … and go into wastewater management specializing in treatment of “solid waste”.

How do these cretinous “scientists” think reefs are formed in the oceans? CO2 concentrated “WARM OCEAN WATER” & an over abundance of CO2 in the water, because H2O readily precipitates CO2 out to form limestone at those temperatures. It’s called Aragonite. The physics of an air sea water interaction to adjust temperatures of the oceans in any meaningful way just is not physically able to move the needle on ocean temperatures. The stuff is precipitated out via a particular salinity & temperature regime, specific to reef building rocks that “removes” excess CO2 in sea water. Hellooooo Bahamas & Great Barrier Reef AUS.
