    You see, it’s ‘grandstanding’ when a politician voices the concerns of his constituency in order to receive their votes.

    And the phrase “in all likelihood” is BBC-speak for “screw actual reporting, I just write whatever I’m feeling.”

      Whatever Merkel’s limitations, to use Hitler as a benchmark for her leadership is just a tad over the top.

      1. I would say that long term consequences, Merkel will be the German Chancellor most destructive to Europe. It recovered from Hitler, and many parts of it improved greatly after the old order was knocked over. Recovering from Merkel is questionable, it will be left with a population with little interest in rebuilding civilization.

      2. What Don B. is in essence saying is that Merkel is the worse German leader of all the German chiefs of state since they started having elections again which was in 1949. That’s a plausible notion. It just so happens that Hitler was the leader prior to Germany’s return to democracy. However Don. B just injected more drama in his statement by using Hitler as a reference point but technically he is correct. But I nit pick.
