What now, Shiny? U.S. will slap Canada with steel and aluminum tariffs starting at midnight
Update: Pizza and playing cards and whistles — just watch him! (More in the comments.)
Uh oh.
The White House says major issues remain unresolved, not just the sunset clause, and any portrayal that they were on the brink of a deal is false.
— Paul McLeod (@pdmcleod) May 31, 2018

We need an approach focused on gender equality and diversity clearly.
Exactly. That indeed was what our stupid, vacuous teenage PM was spouting.
We get everything we deserve. Between Trudeau’s idiotic virtue signaling feminist crap and his incompetent affirmative action cabinet it is hard for the Americans to take us seriously anymore.
Chrystia Freeland, Climate Barbie, Morneau, and on and on the list goes. Could we find some adults to run the country?
This is what happens when you vote in a sissy low IQ drama teacher to run a G7 country and then you put the fool up against an alpha dog. You lose.
Who needs an auto industry anyway?
(sarcasm function disabled)
Trump was elected to mind American interests. White Laurentian Liberals and Chinese businessmen installed Hair-Boy as a puppet.
We are witnessing the results.
Not a bad assessment.
How did it get to be like this? That foreign bodies hire a nobody to run this country into the ground?
George Soros proved there’s a lot of money to be made by shorting currencies before damaging economies.
That aught to toss a wrench in the Ontario election
I think the best way out of this will be to go on a cross Canada selfie tour, invite a private chef, get all dressed up in hockey jerseys from each province and talk in a superior, passive aggressive tone about social justice related topics and lecture Canadians about how to be good liberals. This should do the trick.
Plus nationalizing the Steel and Aluminum industries.
We have an ungifted dilettante as leader of the Federal Liberals, who happens to be in the seat of power at this moment dabbling away, while we get hammered away. Trump campaigned on MAGA. We were warned, so what is our apprentice sophist ‘ leader ‘ going to do Now? ACT 2, coming to a theatre near you.
PM Sockeye had no intention of giving up Canada’s advantages and loopholes under NAFTA. Too bad … you’re absolutely correct, Nancy … your lightweight PM was WARNED! And has been dragging his stockinged feet in negotiations. MY President doesn’t suffer FOOLS. So … BOOM! goes the Trump doctrine of MAGA! Trudeau’s maca … not so much. Trudeau’s … maca … means higher carbon taxes, and a Federal takeover of oil pipelines. Making Canada weak again.
MACA? Make America Canada Again? Make Another China Auntie? I think you meant MCGA.
Oops. Make America Canada again … I like that, eh? But can it be Canada pre-Trudeau (1) ?
See 1:21 am JUNE 1 BELOW Kenji
Yes let’s dispute the result of 1776
No, no, no. We have enough Marxist pukes here already. No need to annex more.
All my life I have been watching Canada slide into the toilet. Many who comment here are part of the problem. Nothing will change until the suffering has been become nation wide and people actually wake up to the fact that they are responsible. The same damn thing applies to the US.
“People wake up to the fact”
Isn’t. Ever. Going. To. Happen. Welcome to the fuckwit apocalypse. Canada went full stupid; there is no way back or out. People trusting government in any capacity, this is where it always ends.
I have to agree.
I fully believe we’re going to see Cormac MacCarthy’s The Road levels of societal collapse in my lifetime.
We may be going to war, kenji! Didn’t you hear Justin say,” from the beaches of Normandy ( he meant Norway) to the hills of Afghanistan we have fought together side by side with Americans”.
Love it when the Sonofa…..draft dodger brings up our military history,in which HIS Dad stayed home while MY dad and millions of others went overseas to fight for France ,Britain and freedom.
The stupid f***er doesn’t realize he’s being played like every other PM has been in trade agreements by the Powers That Be in Canada, and they’ll dump him like a load of worn out manure in ’19 if this hurts their bank accounts.
Meanwhile, the price of everything including coffee and toilet paper is going to skyrocket, according to Global News, so I won’t be able to get my bowels moving with my morning coffee, or wipe my butt even if I do.
When did we get out of the paper industry? Was it in the 90’s when many of the pulp mills were moved out of B.C. to China and Japan?
I didn’t know that the US produced coffee. We roast it and grind it and package it, but I always thought the coffee beans were grown elsewhere, you know, like Colombia. Have I been mistaken all these years?
I saw a lengthy interview on Thursday evening, this PM is playing another game in another ball field. He is brainwashed into thinking as he does.
I call it French arrogance. I don’t know, circa 1780s…..
Let them tariff cake?
heh heh or croissants!
Fair question, to anyone….what now?
Now US Steel and Arcelore Mittal are real sorry they bought Stelco and Dofasco. If the tarrif goes on for a while, look for them to shut down those operations and walk away whistling.
No more steel industry in Canada. Oh well.
not much left anyway.
Splendid opportunity for Justin to buy Canada’s steel and aluminum industries.
“ … not the action of a friend.”
Really!? … MY President didn’t impose a tariff … he “leveled the playing field”. America has been eating shit from the awful tariffs AGAINST the USA … for decades. “Retaliation”!? Really!? So Canada cannot compete on an EQUAL footing?
Go ahead PM Sockeye! Start a trade WAR! Isolate your people, while making them pay higher income and carbon taxes. And meet the same death as Marie Antoinette … IDIOT.
What country has steel tariffs against the USA? Also the us steel industry is in fact subsidized. The problem is their steel factories are for the most part old inefficient labor intensive fossils.
This will cost the USA more jobs than create. That’s *BEFORE* any retaliations.
when will you pull your head outa yer a$$???
Watch out Kenji, the socialists are rabid in this country and many inhabit SDA. They forget that they are less than population of CA and are paying for thousands of middle eastern welfare imports.
The US has always been more protectionist than many of its trade partners. As usual, you’re ignorant and stupid.
Fabulous detail and background for your baseless claim … as usual. Vapid and vacuous
https://www.cato.org/publications/policy-analysis/doomed-repeat-it-long-history-americas-protectionist-failures?utm_content=buffer0c111&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
Yawn … GATT … Smoot-Hawley… do not make America “always more protectionist” than “many” of its trade partners. Who cares what a BIG-L hardcore Cato Institute Libertarian International Trade Attorney has to say? EXTREME Bias against Trade FAIRNESS. Trade EQUALITY … doesn’t move me.
From a man who also believes that the military should be abolished, all drugs be legalized, and corporations be de-regulated. Moronic.
T2 is unaware of American generosity.
Trump warned Canada this was coming. Twice we got exemptions which ostensibly was to give us time to cleanup our phoney steel country of origin problem. The Americans were tired of purchasing steel from Canada that was wrapped in a Canadian flag but was stamped ‘Made in China’. Obama was ok with that game but Trump is not.
Bongo has now announced that Canada will look at how the Chinese dump steel into our market….sure. Get that barn door closed bongo the horses have escaped.
Bongo Chavez has had quite a week. Ripped by the auditor general, then the Kinder Morgan screw up and now the tariffs on steel/aluminum. Hey there is still a day to go. Should I mention NAFTA…..
Never in the history of Canada have we been governed by such complete and total incompetence. One wonders how the behind the scene libranos have allowed this to happen? How much longer can bongo keep his job?
” One wonders how the behind the scene libranos have allowed this to happen?”
Perhaps the behind the scene libranos are just as stupid, incompetent and utterly useless as Trudeau or are simply afraid to rock the boat. Bobblehead Ralph comes to mind.
That’s not how it works at all. There is no phony steel COO problem.
“our phoney steel country of origin problem
There is no problem. The only problem is protectionism. Steel smugglers are heroes.
I don’t know, putting a couple of rivets into tons of cheap Chinese steel and using that to flood the U.S. market seems like the actions of a friend…
Trudeau is no friend to the USA. Neither was his pecker-headed father. Both socialist mofos changing the nation and destroying the culture and indebting the country. I’d say at least 75% of Canadians are hostile to the States due to their ignorance, the CBC and their own smug superiority (which is just horseshyte) + a pantload are from other countries or their parents are and they all think the US is the Great Satan. Of course the hypocritical idiots watch American sports, television, news, movies, etc. and they sure love to vacation there.
Yep… well said… and if Canadians didn’t have American culture they would have no culture at all… Trudopia is the land of fools and self important twits.
Well said, Paddy. I see a Molson’s beer commercial in the works.
That it is. It’s saving the importing country from the stupidity of their own policies. Cheaper steel = always good.
… until the bridge you’re driving on … collapses … then, as John Glenn said … you wish the steel wasn’t provided by the Lowest Bidder.
There’s no evidence of any problems with the steel. In any event, that’s not for the government to decide.
I am sure there were no building codes in your country of origin … but here in the civilized world … we acknowledge the need to protect human LIFE over corporate greed and individual incompetence. I suggest you you fall into the latter category.
Ask The Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec about who “gets to decide” that. I suspect that they would disagree.
Wow! Not ONE mention of the real culprit here: CHINA!
China is using Canada (again) to dump their steel into the US and circumvent tariffs placed on them. They’re trying to Roger Canada’s relationship with its strongest trading partner, and Canada is letting them.
Do you get it yet? They are bastards, fiends and Canada should NOT be doing business with them. NOT selling them oil, NOT buying their toxic junk!
Eddy, try again, there are such things as “borders”. China is not to blame, Kanada is, and will be. Kanada needs to control what happens inside their borders, as others will also take advantage of these fools running our mickey mouse side show od a government
That’s not for you to decide, thank you. I decide who I buy from.
And the cornerstone of that decision is knowing exactly who you’re buying from. People in the USA who don’t want to buy Chinese steel shouldn’t be getting duped into buying Chinese steel with a Canadian COO stamp on it.
Just another example of PM Soy Boy’s JV team, and their utter incompetence regarding anything to do with business.
With the US economy being far more than 10x the size of ours, Canada needs the US more than they need us (especially Morontariowe), despite the few exceptions that soy boy has had his minions in the media propagandize on various corrupt media outlets.
The inmates are in charge, or the children. Doesn’t matter, they are inept, all about symbolism, but shockingly short on substance and smarts
My knowledge of economics is so minimal that I refrain from commenting on whether this tariff is appropriate. As a Yank who appreciates that Canada is this nation’s only true friend, I hope all this will be resolved quickly. God bless Canada.
All tariffs are important. It depends on how they are applied.
I appreciate your sentiment but suspect it is wishful thinking. Canadians with a few exceptions have not been friends of the U.S. for decades. It’s as if Cal Berkeley or Columbia academics are hunched on the 49th parallel.
Shutting Canada down one industry at a time. What happens when figure out how to shut down two at a time?
Meanwhile Ontario might soon elect new corrupt socialists to replace the old corrupt socialists.
Maybe Canadians have swallowed the alt right false narrative, surrendering to the tribalists nanny ninnies.
Then.our.nation.cannot.survive. In its present form.
That is a fact.
Hmm! Not a good idea to brag about how Canada will drag out NAFA talks until after the Mid-terms.. Even the Democrats won’t pickup Canada’s toxic policies, She & little Spud live in a Carbon bubble…… We have taken the NHL away and stamped it “Made in America” , What will be next?…..Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northern Territories have identifiable federal impediments to their development.
If Canada can’t govern the Country to the benefit of everyone.. Kiss your butts goodbye….The Music is playing too fast
Want this resolved?
All he has to do is agree to the American terms.
They want the loop holes closed, a sunset clause, and an end to the sudsidies.
A much wiser man, I believe his name was Stephen, quipped that its not so much about getting a better deal as it is about whether you want a NAFTA or not.
The USA, by their own admission, has more subsidies than many countries.
Time for Canada to hit US with tariffs, preferably against swing states that supported TRUMP, that could go democratic.
and before anyone accuses me of being a liberal, I thought the US had a choice in the last election between two blonde bimbos.
Democratic? …two blonde bimbos?? Are you maybe a third blonde bimbo??? Sure sounds like it!
No, that’s dumb. That’s just blowing off our feet because the US blew off theirs. The answer is always UNILATERAL FREE TRADE. Let’s become the world’s dumping ground! We can be the staging point for an invasion of cheap foreign steel.
There is no such thing as universal FREE trade. It’s a myth overridden by a myriad of differences between countries. FREE trade to the Globalists means the exploitation of cheap labor, corrupt totalitarian government leaders, and absence of environmental regulations.
“It’s a myth overridden by a myriad of differences between countries. ”
This meaningless babble isn’t even wrong. The ‘differences’ between countries is neither here nor there. Party A wishes to transact with Party B. No one has any right to get in the way.
“FREE trade to the Globalists means the exploitation of cheap labor, corrupt totalitarian government leaders, and absence of environmental regulations.”
Hell yes!
The so-called “Free Trade” agreements have generally been about managed, controlled trade, to the advantage of various special nterests. Free trade is easy, just let people buy and sell what they want.
“Hell yes” … says it all. Exploitation of poor, desperate, people for fun and PROFIT of the wealthy elites … yep … let’s POLLUTE the HELL out of China, India, Indonesia, VietNam … so long as we can collect US dollars. Yep … FREE to exploit
Absolutely hammer the stupid Americans with retaliatory tariffs targeting Trump assets and more importantly swing states for the midterms. There is absolutely no reason for this and it will cost the Americans more jobs than they will gain even before retaliatory tariffs.
You are delusional.
you spelt stupid fvck wrong!!!
Oh look! That’s exactly what happened!
We have a national leader, along with many fellow travelers, who’s worldview is incompatible with reality.
So this can never go well. No governments aren’t better at building pipelines than pipeline companies.
No, you cannot avert your view to avoid steel tariffs. No, you can’t pretend gender parity is a societal priority.
But they do try, and get away with it because we (at least enough of us) let them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oedaSfUU0vc
For a good laugh on the mind of PM Socks, explaining to the commoner trade deficits/tariffs…
Ah Mr Lahey, but he can sing, latest is,
“I’ve got the world on a string, sitting on a Rainbow, got the string around my finger, what a World, What a Life!” (credit lyricists: Mr Koehler and Mr Arlen, various covers by Sinatra, Tony Bennett etc)
He’s got a pension coming for this ‘work’ that he now does, destroying Canada. He’s a millionaire from ‘ grandpere and Papa, he has a free house, maids, nannies, chauffeurs, a Government airplane, the best sartorial flair, a closetful of socks and HAIR!
Time voters yank his string out!
Given that Canada imports more steel from the US than we export to them, the only winner in Trump’s brand of protectionism (mutually assured tariffs) will be the Chinese who are the largest steel producers on the planet. Canada, unlike what the Trump cheerleaders on this site allege, could not possibly be responsible for any material funneling of Chinese steel through NAFTA. Look at the actual trade stats: https://www.trade.gov/steel/countries/pdfs/imports-us.pdf , https://www.trade.gov/steel/countries/pdfs/imports-Canada.pdf
It’s one thing to criticize the well deserving Spawn, but Trump, in a desperate move to live up to his promised protectionism is beating up on his NAFTA partners because he can but he will fail miserably at resurrecting the US steel industry to historical levels. Question for Trumpsters, is Taiwan steel considered Chinese?
Dont be confusing the President Obese Drumpf supporters with facts now!
Now Allan, I have already described your condition.
Trump’s moves may seem a bit odd at times, but when you remember the underlying theme is economy and jobs, it all makes sense. Creating demand, brings investment and jobs. There are a great many plants sitting idle in Pennsylvania, and the eastern seaboard. The U.S. used to manufacture ten times what they currently produce, and by using tarriffs, Trump wins by increasing revenues from cross border taxation and wins again by increasing jobs,, investment, and the overall economy. Since Trump’s election, the U.S. economy has taken off with supporting statistics not seen since after the second world war. I wonder what drives people to still question him so much? He has proven himself to be very adept at improving the economy thus far. Approaching 4% growth, while the latest Canadian number has dropped to 1.3%. perhaps, we should be taking notes instead of criticizing.
“Creating demand, brings investment and jobs.”
No it doesn’t.
“The U.S. used to manufacture ten times what they currently produce”
No they didn’t. The US manufactures more now than ever.
” Since Trump’s election, the U.S. economy has taken off”
Wrong again. The Trump economy is not appreciably better than the one he inherited.
Tariffs have never ever created prosperity. Make America Argentina Again
US manufacturing is at an all time high and 50% higher than when NAFTA was signed. The prime job loss leader is an increase in productivity due to automation.
I still cannot believe people think otherwise when the numbers are so obvious.
question to you John, when you are a business illiterate is it wise to comment in ignorance. USA doesn’t have to “raise” it’s level of production to historical level. They can just hold back and deal directly with off shore suppliers, they don’t need to have kanada and messico as middle men!!!!
Another thing, when USA convinced kanada to scrap the Avro, what happened??? All our skilled trades people went south and worked on the space program and on the A-12, and a similar thing can happen again
Interesting site John. If you look into the “interesting trends” in the Steel directory, Mexican bar exports to the US have tripled this year over the rate from last year. That would seem to support President Trump’s allegations that China (or others who have had the tariffs applied already) are using Nafta to do an end-run around the tariffs.
Whatever Sockboy does it will certainly involve a nod to LBGT, cost us a lot of money, and embarrass the hell out of Canada in the eyes of the world once again. Oh perhaps as a bonus Shiny will cry again.
We should just stop shipping the US any oil. That’ll learn them for sure…..
What is totally amazing….but on the other hand not….is that MONTHS after the prospect of tariffs were on the table there was a meeting of the Canada-U.S. committee THIS MORNING to try to find a “sweet spot” for retaliation? Seriously? Any actions, stupid as they might be, should have been ready to roll out the door at the crack of dawn today.
Amazing not is correct.
The US made it clear that this exemption wasn’t forever only temporary with the stated goal of completing the NAFTA renegotiation.
Quick recap
NAFTA talks begin US says want better deal specifics autos dairy eggs and lets add a sunset clause that have the partners review the agreement every three years.
Canada responds with the “demand” that gender equity be part of the negotiations
A few months later after it looks like no deal is coming Trump announces the tariffs on steel and alumimum.
Canada Mexico basically everyone freaks out.
Trump issues exemption valid until June 1.
Deadline to have a deal before the US Houses can get legislation through before midterms passes and still no deal.
Which brings us to this week when after its announced the exemption is going to be lifted the sockmonkey calls his cabinet together to decide what actions to take at the eleventh hour….like they didn’t believe Trump would actually follow through.
And next week is the G7.
This is about to get interesting.
Yes Joseph, I agree. This is about getting the NAFTA negotiations moving to a conclusion…… they have dragged on and on. When playing poker, it is wise to never let you opponents know when you’re bluffing and when you’re not. Raise the stakes. See who will call the raise and who will fold.
California has a larger economy than Canada. Think Canada is going to win a trade war?
Bongo Chavez is prattling on about protectionism. Guess those NAFTA talks where the Americans wanted to talk about Supply Management and we wanted to talk about gender equality and pronouns didn’t mean anything……Maybe the Americans were paying attention after all.
Bongo is puffed up today – hey the quebek steel industry is impacted here. When the oil & gas industry is effected he sends out a minister…..it’s not important enough for the Prime Minister to address a crisis in oil/gas.
NOBODY wins trade wars. NOBODY.
I guarantee that TRUDOPEY, your effeminate friend, WILL lose, along with the embarrassingly stupid Chrystia Freeland
Whether or not our steel/aluminum industry poses a threat to American security is irrelevant. What Trump did falls into the category of the prerogative of kings…..and Trump is a King.
More likely the precarious position America finds itself in when it comes to internal production of steel/aluminum is the culprit. Trump wants to make sure that if America gets into a prolonged war that they have a steel/aluminum industry that can supply their military demand. They don’t want to be beholden to China or Canada in a situation like that.
The notion that America’s security is the least but imperiled by steel imports is idiotic. For one thing, the US produces plenty of steel. About the same amount they have for decades.
The short and long of it is, Canada needs the U.S. and access to their markets far more than the U.S. needs Canada. Trudeau’s buddies in China will have to find some other sucker to launder their steel for them. I wonder how many millions China has invested in the Trudeau/Morneau Foundation for their dirty work?
EL Trumpo, while you are at it, how about busting up the Canadian poultry/dairy mafia.
So we want access to a market 10 times our size , our best customer , and we wish to dictate the terms . Of course we have no equal access or trade within our own borders, but that is we want from our best customer . And we are going to “act” tuff and fight . There can’t be much wrong with this strategy , I Am sure it will work out wonderfully !
There isn’t enough beer and popcorn produced in Canada to see us through to the next election. Canada is going to re-act by imposing tariffs. If this wasn’t so bloody tragic it would be awarded a Nobel Prize in Idiocy.
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/canada-responds-to-us-tariffs-with-its-own-countermeasures/ar-AAy4ikg?li=AAadgLE&ocid=spartandhp
Ontariowe, once the industrial heartland of Canada, has been hemorrhaging jobs and industry for the last ten years under Liberal governance and now Justin is going to double down at the negotiation table. Justin doesn’t even know how many cards are in the deck so how would he understand how to play the game.
Any tariffs imposed will ultimately cost the Canadian taxpayer more. That is a fundamental truth. $16 billion dollar price tag has been plucked out of thin air, this from the gang that thinks budgets balance themselves.
What everybody seems to forget is that Socialists would prefer the populace to be reliant on government for all their needs. Viewed in this light, this move by Trudeau and the Laurentian Elite falls into line with making Canadians less free and more dependent on the government (who will give them unemployment insurance and eventually, when those jobs never return, welfare). The increase in welfare payments will “force” governments of whatever stripe to raise taxes on everything including income taxes on those who still have jobs.
The shuttering of the steel and aluminum industry in Ontario, Quebec and BC should yield huge benefits for runaway global warming. God bless Trump for saving the polar bears!
Bwaahahaha!
Bah! 10 percent, 25 percent….that’s nothin’!
We charge them 240 percent on their dairy products!
Now THAT’s what I call a tariff!
Yanks are *&^%$#g weenies!
Don’t worry, Kathleen Wynn has the answer:
“Donald Trump is a bully. The only way to deal with a bully is stand up and push back. And that’s exactly what we need to do. Ontario is urging a swift and sharp response. We need to hit Trump where it hurts – in his wallet.”
Ha ha ha ha!! What a laugh.
actually we should hit the states he needs in November’s elections.
Hey perhaps Donald is trying to get impeached!
If he was impeached he could make a lot of hay going around he country whining like Hilary. He might even find enough money to start up his own TV network!
Ontario or Canada wont laugh when Trump goes after the auto industry.
The stupidity of this government will all be on display shortly. As each week goes by it becomes more evident.
Bongo might lead the libranos back into 3rd place if things keep going according to his plan…
I’m having fun posting and re-posting on the CBC comments that Canada imposes 240 percent tariffs on US dairy products. Hypocrites rarely fail to rise to the bait.
The Altering of the Deal
Yayy, more wealth confiscated by gov’ts on both sides…
I bet businesses LOVE the certainty too!
NOBODY wins trade wars.
NOBODY.
Did anyone catch this bit in the article?
“However, Trudeau said U.S. Vice President Mike Pence called to inform him that his invitation to the U.S. for this meeting was contingent on Trudeau signing a NAFTA deal that had a five-year sunset clause”
So there was a deal that could be signed that would have avoided this….and the sock monkey rejected it because he didn’t want a sunset clause.
Well how about that?
Pence now claims there was no proposal made and many unresolved issues remained.
G7 is next week.
These are interesting times.
Donald Trump has a history of screwing people in deals. I Just read Conrad Black’s book “Donald J. Trump a President like no Other”. Conrad says he likes Trump, but even Black’s book disparages Trump’s “deals”.
If I was an American I would have voted for Trump cause Hilary was far far worse.
No she wasn’t. Hillary was and is obviously less dangerous.
Tell it to Seth Rich, oh… wait.
Are you seriously entertaining the retarded Seth Rich conspiracy theory?
Yup! See you next Tuesday.
(not really, you have that horrible brain eating disease).
If it results in Justin Trudeau being removed from power and replaced by someone willing to work with President Trump on trade and immigration, not against him, I’m all for it.
Please proceed, prime minister. I want to see your face when you’re sent for a long stay in Kingston for doing the dirty work of the Chinese Communist party.
Chrystia’s, too, when Canada finally extradites her to Russia to stand trial for her crimes against the Russian people. Her only priority as foreign minister has been to settle scores against Russia on behalf of unrepentant Ukrainian Nazis, not advance Canada’s interests.
You won’t like Siberia, Chrystia. Not one bit.
Hey A Canadian I like your thinking.
Chrystia in Kolyma……
Ha ha
A quiche tax, that will send them reeling. I had to read this twice, this has to be a joke I thought. You can’t make this up. https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/canada-to-slap-extra-tax-on-quiche-mayo-toilet-paper-and-dozens-of-other-u-s-products-1.3954094
Toilet Paper! Didn’t a certain south American country have problems importing toilet paper not so long ago?
Mayo? Mayo sold in Canada is made with Canola oil, whereas mayo sold in the States is made with soybean oil. Are people saying that the Canola-based mayo is made in the States?
It’s not important as to what is taxed, rather where is it produced? SWING STATES FOR THE MIDTERMS!
So Tangerine Turd has decided to really blow it all up-just in time for the midterms no less. It was already going to be a shellacking now it might be a slaughter.
Canadians don’t vote in the mid terms last I checked.
No, but Americans do: http://fivethirtyeight.com
So prime minister dumbarse is punishing Canadian consumers for necessities like food because his China masters won’t stop dumping cheap Chinese steel.
Always looking out for the little people
There’s no evidence of dumping. It’s not Trudeau’s fault that Trump is a retard who doesn’t understand trade.
UnMe: You’re a breath of fresh air in Trump’s septic tank! I get so fed of of people making excuses for Americans electing what is essentially the last of the Three Stooges. Were it not for illegal tariffs from the British Crown, , there would be no USA!! Wasn’t that one of the reasons for the American Revolution??
Hope Americans think twice next time!
PET POT Cemetery Report.
Idiot Stupid Liberal Justine breaks MAGA’s ****s ????
“… Trudeau said in French.” … Uh, erm, ah, er, non, merci.
…-
https://www.parrysound.com/news-story/8642894-trudeau-i-said-no-to-nafta-sunset-clause/
Hahahaha, so funny. The USA doesn’t produce enough steel or aluminum for itself…. Canada produces more than it needs and uses cheap Asian product to do so. Tarriffs by Canada will only accelerate the rate at which American companies retool and rebuild….. And once done, America will need Canuck steel less and less. In a trade war with an economically powerful rival, you always lose if you have a surplus with that rival. Just wait until Anwar and eastern offshore American oil comes online…. If Canada doesn’t have pipelines to both coasts by then, we will be hooped. America will need less and less Canuck oil. We have a bunch of dipshite ideoloques who are married to China…. And they have Trump and his sharks. Canada’s GDP is already faultering, while Americans surges.
We can use our cheap Chinese steel to build the Government Mountain Pipelines.
“while Americans surges.”
Bzzt. American GDP growth is barely outpacing Canada’s.
” Tarriffs by Canada will only accelerate the rate at which American companies retool and rebuild”
No they won’t. Without competition there’s no reason for them not to suck. Further, there is no such thing as a ‘trade surplus’ or ‘trade deficit’. There are no winners in trade wars.
The media cartel is not telling the whole story.
Free trade has nothing to do with gender, lgfxyz, women’s what ever, children and old people and other variety and such of the victim classes.
The Freeland is looking like medusa in fury that she can’t get her way.
The Übermensch class absolutely refuses to understand that those they think of lesser, know in many cases. perhaps majority, more about affairs of the state then the media cartel will ever now.
The Whitehouse just called Shiny Pony, the Prime Minister of Canada, a liar. That is something one does not normally see.
I kinda like it.
Trump is probably the best chess player in the world. Pretty boy tried to upstage him by announcing prematurely that a deal was eminent. In short in chess terms he tried to finesse Trump and got the country screwed.
More fantasy. There’s no evidence of any strategy.
WHO WAS THAT GUY?
Bet it would all go away if Canada dropped its 240 percent import tariff on US dairy products.
You know what else would go away? Dairy farming in Ontario. They’d just stop doing it.
Same with chicken and beef. At some point you have to protect the industries in your own country, or you’re not a country anymore. Do you want to be buying chicken from Tyson Foods at 1/4 the price of Canadian chicken? Sure! Right up until there’s a disruption in the flow of shipping. Then you look around and realize there are no chicken farms where you live. Because they can’t possibly compete with the mega-conglomerate Tyson, who can put a whole bird on your table for five bucks. How can they do that? Sheer size, mechanization, low minimum wage, WAY cheaper electricity and fuel, no marketing boards, less regulation on feeding, growing, shipping and manure disposal. Manure is the biggest cost in growing a chicken these days, as it turns out.
Canadians want to have all kinds of fancy Euro-style regulations on every single thing, then they better be prepared to PAY for it.
That’s why Trump is putting up the steel tariff. He knows the USA needs to make its own steel, and there needs to be massive improvements in the American steel industry. Cheap Chinese steel is stopping that from happening. Canadian companies dumping Chinese steel on the US market is a huge issue. Who is going to buy stock in US Steel Co. when they know Feng Shan Steel is landing it on the dock in Vancouver cheaper than it comes out of the furnace in Pittsburg?
From my perspective I see two alternatives:
1. Fight Trump and the US to keep importing then exporting Chinese goods while allowing Canada’s steel and aluminum production to dwindle even farther
2. Go along with Trump and form a bilateral trade agreement that helps both the US and Canada build their steel and production industries.
Why Canada, under Trudeau, chose #1 instead of #2 is a question few ask or answer.
The Chinese kickbacks are too good to give up for the betterment of Canada
Headline in the Nat. Post:
“Ultimatum derailed Trump meeting: PM”.
Well, it appears that Trump didn’t want to see The Boy.
Tit for tat in the kiddie sand box. Who’s going to cry first, Freeland or Trudeau? For sure not President Donald J Trump. USA USA USA.
