I’m a bit disappointed in Steyn for this particular bit of goalpost-shifting; the damaging accusations came from 14 to 17-year-old high school girls, not 19-year-old adults. Moore acknowledged having relationships with 17-year-olds, but he’s been so mealy-mouthed that presenting him as some kind of railroaded victim is fraught, at best.
Let me guess … what qualifies as “State sanctioned violence” against Gays … would be Moore endorsing Gay deprogramming. Meh. I don’t really care. At. All. if you’re Gay. Hair splitting. Some 17 year olds are mature enough to date (and seduce) older men. The one complaint from someone under age has been denied by Moore. There is a double standard here. Steyn is right to remind us that older men and younger women were much tolerated just a few years ago. It has not been established that Moore did anything out of line. There are concerns however that the vote was rigged.
We might want to reflect on the fact that Canada’s age of consent was raised from 12 to 14 in 1892, and raised from 14 to 16 by the Harper Government only in 2008, with progressives protesting the move.

None of this is why Moore was a target of a manufactured indiscretion. Thirty-two year olds dating teenage girls was very common until a decade ago or so. Moore was a target because of his believes and stance on issues that were common until bastardized by progressives.

Geez Daniel, I hope you mature before you hit the pine box, I hate seeing children buried. I know of girls as young as 11 hitting on older men, and living common law at a ripe old age of 12. It is discretionary actions of the older of the two that needs to be considered, and in Moore’s case, that is the question that has not been asked. As to Steyn’s piece, it’s brilliant, and accurate. This isn’t about legality, I know what the age of consent was in Alabama. And it’s not that “thirty-two year olds dating teenage girls was very common until a decade ago or so” because that is complete and utter bull****. Twenty-five years ago, men in their mid-twenties dating high school girls was considered sleazy and uncouth. It happened a couple of times in the high school I attended.
Oh, and the age of consent in Canada being 14 is meaningless. A couple of former police friends of mine have admitted that if an adult man “dating” a 14-year-old came to their attention, they’d find something to bust the guy on, even if they couldn’t get him on a statutory rape charge, just to put a stop to it.
Because adults in their thirties dating high school girls is sleazy and immoral, even when it’s politically convenient for our side to pretend otherwise.
You must understand most of the people here have no understanding of their world outside of their 60-person hamlet-shithole that they live in. They think Alabama of a few decades ago is a normal healthy model.
