Since 9/11 we have a whole new definition of assault weapons and the Liberals are going to take it and make an end run around existing laws in Canada. As we have seen since then anything with a sharp blade bigger than 1/2 an inch, an axe, hammer, machete, kitchen knife, rock or sharp pointy thing can be designated as an assault weapon, but the Liberals will focus on long guns and will penalize a huge number of taxpaying legal gun owners in this country. As we are seeing in the ongoing debacle south of us when you put undeserved faith in government certain segments of said government will take advantage of their position. The Liberals from experience are past masters of taking advantage of their position. A New York woman was shot dead after a hunter said he mistakenly took her for a deer, according to police
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Rosemary Billquist, of Sherman, had taken her two Labradors for a walk in her hometown near the Pennsylvania border around 5.30pm on Wednesday.
The hunter, identified as 34-year-old Thomas Jadlowski, told deputies he thought he saw a deer in the field and fired his single-shot pistol.

None of which will effect criminals of course, since they need neither permits nor background checks to “transfer” firearms.
No, this is misleading. What they ‘re doing is repealing the Conservatives C-42 provision that included a digital Authourization to Transport for Restricted firearms to be taken to lawful ranges for target shooting and competitions.
Previously, there was a requirement to have a paper permit for this and some Chief Firearms Officers required a separate permit for each different range or competition.
The Liberals are returning to that to bolster their anti-gun/tough on gun meme without spending a bunch of money they don’t have.

That was in the U.S., right? In Canada, that would be zero as compared to hundreds.
The old Authorization To Transport (ATT), which the Conservative government did away with and Pm Castreau’s regime seems to be signalling they will reinstate, was a paper document that owners of Restricted class firearms had to carry with them when ever they took one of their restricted class firearms to the only places they were allowed to take them which were already specified in the regulations. (They also had to carry the individual registration certificate for each of their restricted firearms they had with them and their firearms license.)
This is alike to having to carry with you whenever drive your car not just your driving license and your vehicle registration, but also a certificate that says you are allowed to be out driving the car where ever it is legal to drive, as long as you are complying with the law and traffic regulations and as long as you have your driving license and vehicle registration with you.
We’ll never know how many innocent lives were saved because gun owners (only the ones with firearms licenses and registration documents for their firearms) didn’t go out and kill anyone because they were afraid of the extra penalties for not having an ATT that would have been added to their sentences for murder.
That story is very wrong in many ways.

She was found 200 yards away – somebody shot a deer with a pistol at somewhere near that range? (yes, I’ve seen really large caliber long barreled ‘hunting’ revolvers with scopes – they are not single shot pistols)
I can’t say that I have researched hunting regs in NY but it’s usually ‘half-hour after sunset’. If he called it in 10 minutes after that it shouldn’t surprise anyone. After all, he had to locate her 200 yards away in near dark while putting another round in his single shot pistol in case she (the deer) wasn’t yet dispatched.
That’s one strange, or I would suspect more accurately, poorly written, story.

The point is liberals or xenophobes and hate those they do not know or understand. Thus they can accept all manner of foreigners in their midst because they know and meet them on a daily basis. However they do not meet or understand rural folks who own rifles and shotguns to kill vermin or to gather food like moose or deer or geese or ducks.
Aren’t the only legal assault weapons in Canada owned by, well, the feds? How much harder do they think words on paper will make it for criminals to get them?
And when they say “harder for criminals”, they mean “harder for everyone”, because to them we’re all just criminals they haven’t yet charged with a crime.
