Mainstreet surveyed 1,000 Calgarians on Thursday and found that Smith has 42 per cent support, while the mayor is at 33 per cent. Coun. Andre Chabot is far back at seven per cent. The undecided vote is also surprisingly low, 14 per cent.

I hope nobody radicalizes if things go south for Islam.
Here’s hoping.
I sure hope SMITH gets in!!!! This mayor of Calgary is just like Notley and Trudope spend, spend and more spending when does it all stop, that is the question….when we pay 100% in taxes.
living in airdrie i hope spendshi loses bigly!!
It appears the author has quite an attachment for Nenshi. The use of adverbs and adjectives is erratic superfluous ingratiation. Nenshi received awards for nothing more than being Muslim. No accomplishments of which to boast. No gains, innovation, or even just keeping the lid on taxes. He is simply, famous, for being famous. Mayor Chauncey Gardner
I also live in Airdrie. Our mayor also has to go. I can’t stand Peter Brown. However Marie Lauer is one frightening air-headed leftist.
Oh hell yes please make it happen-on the condition that the alternatives are better. Can someone tell me about them? Are they better?
Nenshi is a narcissistic a-hole. He uses other peoples’ money to build monuments to His Greatness. They aren’t even cool monuments, they’re stupid like that pedestrian bridge. Or the idiotic stadium he’s gunning for (all public subsidies for sports are an atrocity). His speech at a Calgary Stampede breakfast I had to sit through was so god damn cringey I almost choked on the food. He was grasping for reasons to keep talking, ideally about himself. I think he might have been the best choice when he was first elected, but he should have been shown the door a while ago. Not the worst (Vancouver’s got that down) but bad.
If he loses or even scrapes by, it’s another death knell for Alberta’s ‘progressive moment’. These trends tend to percolate from the bottom up. His election and dominance were a signal that the political landscape had changed (largely thanks to lots of easy oil money). The money is gone; the moment is over.
Heh. I was one of the ones surveyed. The questions were short and simple, they didn’t play the usual games of using leading questions. The whole survey took under two minutes.
I’m one of the ones listed as a Smith supporter, but it was actually an anyone-but-no-fun-Nenshi. Smith’s background with the PC party made me pause, but getting the big spending leftist out is more important. It’s more important to beat the bad mayor than to support the perfect candidate (if the perfect candidate cannot win).
I live in Calgary and have never supported Narcissist Nenshi, especially because local CBC (radio and TV) couldn’t give him enough air time and praise. During the last campaign, he compared a local land developer to a mafia kingpin, spent nearly $300,000 of taxpayers’ money to defend against a lawsuit for this libel when all it needed was an apology, and then had the gall to solicit “donations” from others to repay this money. By the way, these “donations” were tax deductible, and no interest was charged by the city.
Do I want to see Bill Smith win? You bet I do. I have donated to his campaign and have his sign on my lawn.
It’s way past time for term limits for all politicians.
Bill Smith?? Gee, the name rings a bell!
I hope it’s not Bill Smith, former mayor of Edmonton….
Mayor Nenzi the Leftist needs to go and so do his purple supporters. Famous for being Muslim (even though Muslims consider Ahmadis non-Muslim…) and that’s it. Here’s hoping Smith removes those bike lanes, too.
We need to skid Duh Feral too. Whiney cat past due. This poll will scare her.
1000% supporting Bill Smith and this time I will actually be able to vote (was up North working last time). That Nenshi has to go became blindingly obvious when during 2014, an Israeli family was beaten up by a bunch of SCUMBAGS Hamas supporters in downtown Calgary.
NOT a Peep from that MUSLIME of a Mayor…nadda.
That my friends angered me large.
Only after our resident Jewish “Nazi” EZRA Levant – God Love him, (I actually can’t believe that some media referred to him with that handle.), got involved did anything happen at all…Goes to show where this POS’ sympathies Lie.
Yea, that Nenshit needs a boot, is an understatement.
Perhaps Nenshi will run for the Liberals in the next election, a shame to waste good talent in public life!
Was this a likely voters poll or what? I mean municipal elections have dismal participation rates.
Druh got an earful from the wife when campaigning in our neighbourhood….
Heh. Probably that picture of him, Justin, and Notley in Stetsons did him in. Ol’ Raiche looked like the only man in the bunch.
Rachel could use a botox dip.
The Muslims will vote as a block so good luck.
James of kek, that question was not asked during the poll. It is all possible voters, not likely voters.
and you “people” from Newfberta laugh at us in OntarIowe:-)))
Druh has not been polling well in our riding. Dean Brawn (office in Kensington) feels he can beat her this election.

And he is like minded to Bill Smith as well.

TRAV I AGREE 100%
Mayor peter brown started good but the city is up to its eyeballs in debt and he has drifted to far to the left ….he must go.
I’m split on Druh. At first glance it’s easy to dismiss her as hard-grade prog trash. But she supports Uber and has taken I think a few other good positions.
Just watch, the Calgary Herald, being the boot licking eastern scum bags they obey, will do everything they can to get that Jackass re-elected.
The Fake news is going to be coming fast and furious right before the vote.
Then there is the Calgary Sun, who have become equally useless. All the Fake Journalists there want to hang onto their propaganda jobs for as long as possible.
Former Edmonton mayor Bill Smith kept property tax hikes at or near 0% for almost his entire term.
Not only would he make a better mayor than either Nenshi or Iveson, he should be operating the backhoe used to bury those two alive for their crimes against Alberta taxpayers.
Bill Smith was the mayor who made the city waste a fortune renaming Calgary Trail North to Gateway Boulevard, using the lame premise that people might get the idea that they weren’t in Edmonton.
He was also a virtue signaller. I attended a solar energy conference in the late 1990s and he showed up for the opening ceremony on the first day. With the press in attendance, he portrayed himself as being an advocate and disappeared soon after that appearance.
He was an improvement over Jan Reimer, but, as often is the case in politics, one trades one set of miseries for a bunch of new ones.
Edmonton has long had a habit of electing mayor of dubious talent or ethics. One would have to look back more than 40 years before finding one who was halfways decent at the job. (The only one I’m not sure about was Decore as I wasn’t living in Edmonton for most of the time he was in office.)
Unfortunately, I’m not optimistic about the slate of candidates for the upcoming civic election.
The calgary slate is 100% progressive. They haven’t had a conservative mayor in 40 years including Klein.
Calgary loves liberals.
The city is broke. Downtown vacancy rates @30%. They’re going to build a new hockey rink though…and how about that olympic bid?
Calgary’s ‘Liberal’ mayors used to be of a sort of conservatish inclination-like Bronconnier. Nenshi is different and not in a good way.
Re Edmonton: don’t live in Edmonton. That’s all the advice you need.
Why don’t they survey the vote splitter who was instrumental in getting Nenshi elected the first time ?
Have often wondered why that very old political ploy had been of such extreme disinterest to the Calgary media once the dust settled.
