Immigrants do not come from ‘Immigrantland’. Population differences related to entrepreneurial and earning potential are real, and significant, and difficult to bridge.

“It is senseless, then, to claim, as the author of the Economist article does, that immigrants are “more likely than the native-born to bring new ideas and start their own businesses.” Immigrants do not come from “Immigrantland.” Population differences related to entrepreneurial and earning potential are real, and significant, and difficult to bridge.”
Yes, yes! But shouldn’t you embrace the rich and exotic cultural tapestry that “no borders” immigration brings us, rather than concentrate on measurably useful things?
This is no different than Italian and Ukrainian and dozens of other immigrant nations that came to North America 50 to 150 years ago.
Unless the author is implying that letting them in was also a mistake…
IMHO immigrants are welcome in Canada but who comes is more about the ability to assimilate and the culture from which they come. That culture has an impact on how well they can adjust to a new environment. I grew up in the 50’s & 60’s with lots of immigrants, mostly Euros. Many of those new Canadians became friends of mine. A Hungarian friend told me that he would not join Hungarian clubs that provided support. He told me he wanted to be a Canadian and adopted English by not speaking Hungarian. That seems radical now but he became a stalwart in our town.
I do not believe Canada should be adjusting our society to that of the immigrants coming to join us. I do not believe in or trust Islam. The proof is in the actions many adherents use around the world to terrorize and subjugate non believers. If the core of Islamic belief is intolerance of non believers then there is no place for these people in Canada.
Yet again, the right is allowing the left to almost completely control the narrative.
Being anti-open borders IS NOT THE SAME AS being anti-immigrant. Shameful that the entire political right has failed in delivering this simple message.
F^ck all you sac-o-shit, lowlife lying libtards who paint anyone concerned with their nation’s sovereignty as a racist!
And while I have a good rant going, f^ck all you witless, spineless R/CINO’s who are enabling them, too!
Whew, that feels better.
CT and Canadian Observer, well said.
CT, my grandfather said and did the same thing in the 1920s after escaping from utopia.
I read recently about 600,000 Syrians returning to Syria now that areas are safe. One problem with bringing so many Syrian refugees to Canada is that it makes it difficult for them to return and most will not be getting jobs. Many will not feel at home with aspects of Canadian culture. I do hope that some who have come to Canada will find ways to move back to Syria if that is their choice. It certainly would be my choice if I were a refugee and Syria was now safe.
No … today’s word (phrase) is “dog whistle”. Which is another way to say RACIST!! Because that is what will be screamed at anyone who DARES suggest that Africans and Muslims are “lesser” immigrants than European or Asian immigrants. And any “studies” that dare suggest such a thing need to be immediately discredited. It’s almost like saying an “urban” teen, H.S. dropout who is pregnant with her second out-of-wedlock child, and likes to smoke marijuana all day is “less” a citizen than a hard-working young college graduate who works for her fathers business modernizing his accounting system.
The world’s shit holes are in the state they are in because of their population and nothing else. Japan, almost devoid of resources has been the richest country in the world at times. It will take several generations to ingrain the Canadian work ethic should the people choose to assimilate at all. If they create their own gansta-like subculture, they might never catch up. They didn’t call it the Protestant work ethic for nothing.
Wrong. Those places are that way because of bad institutions.
This article is tripe anyway. Having a government that picks and chooses who comes here is ham-fisted central planning. Open Borders are the only policy compatible with freedom and capitalism.
