I’m sorry but 2 minutes in and this asshole is still droning on about the interview without a word from Scott. That’s 2 minutes of my life I’ll never get back but at least I didn’t waste any more time. If you haven’t clicked through yet ……….. don’t bother.
Your loss, Bob.
What your post says to me is, “Whew, I found an excuse to bail on the interview before I had to think critically”. Pretty sad that you would then also recommend others stay in ignorance, too.
I can only get about 40 mins of this podcast in this AM, but that’s because I’m just heading out to go fishing with my daughter. Will listen to the rest later. People like Sam Harris and Scott Adams having open debates on such subjects is the key to getting ALL Americans back to watching the same movie.
I agree.
About the 40 minute mark it gets interesting. “Someone who lies (as in hyperbole) shouldn’t be president.” How about someone who has obliterated his past and says you can keep your doctor? Or someone who didn’t have any classified email on her bathroom server?
Listening to Sam Harris reminds me of the old saying, “There are none so blind as those that will not see.” I cannot help but wonder what color the smoke is coming from his hair being on fire. He is a raving case of cognizant dissonance and confirmation bias but cannot see it.
I’m with Bob. Listened for just past 5 min and the turkey still hadn’t said anything except how great he is. Reminded me of Obumbles and look how that turned out.
I’m also with Bob. I didn’t even make the first two minutes. Why? Because I don’t listen to podcasts at all. I will read very long posts, because I can jump back and review if I need to, or scan ahead to see if the writer heads off into the weeds and there’s no point in continuing. I can even copy/paste text into my own document so I can add notes if I wish. With a podcast I have to endure the endless stammerings, repetitions, sentence fragments, sneering intonations, and undecipherable audio when people are trying to talk over one another. No thanks.
Give it a listen!
These long-form discussions are my only real source of fully grasping the arguments lately. Lord knows it doesn’t come from the MSM.
Sam Harris is definitely anti-Trump and his blathering on about it has grown tiresome but here he finally has someone making a rational defense of Trump and the way he is.
At worst, after having listened to it, you’ll be able to offer up some counter-point in your day to day discussions in real life.
Harris stated that Adams had him ‘hypnotized’
“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.” Winston Churchill
Sam Harris – word thinker.
Brian Mallard hit the nail on the head.
It is worse than wilful blindness. His closed mind is accompanied by a mouth and a platform.
He love Elon (I never met a government I wouldn’t fleece) Musk for Pete’s sake
I listened to the whole thing. Sam doesn’t seem to be interested in anyone’s opinions but his own. New information definitely not welcome or heard. And the sound quality was poor for Scott’s voice while Sam was louder. Deliberate?
He is also highly critical of Islam and has the ear of the left.
terrific little exercise in confirmation bias – an amazing illustration on how two individuals watching the same events can come up with consistently opposing interpretations.
Was Sam Harris in a coma for the last eight years? A con man? Wow. As Dilbert said, cognitive dissonance. Liberals love the word salad.
I tried twice but it would only play for about two minutes and then stopped for some reason. I enjoy Scott and would have liked to listen to the whole thing.
A stopped clock right twice a day. May he carry on being critical of Islam more and more loudly. If they come for him that might to help half a dozen lefties out of the countless horde to wake up.
I went to Adams’ blog and managed to listen to it. Sam Harris is a piece of work, that’s for sure. Scott Adams is about ten times smarter than this blockhead.
Ah they’re all gone wack-a-doodle and it’s Trump’s fault, he won the Presidency.
Its worth sitting through just for those moments when Adams calmly stops Harris in the middle of a “but, but Trump bad!” rant and points out “now Sam, you’ve just contradicted something you said thirty seconds ago” and proceeds to demolish the man’s words right before his eyes. If that happened to me I hope I’d have the self-awareness to say “holy crap – you’re right” or something, but watch Sam’s responses. Pure delightful denial. If Sam is the opposition then we’ve already won.
I clicked past the opening monologue to where Scott is talking, listened to about 12 minutes of Scott with Sam as background, then went to the 40 minute mark. Scott catches Sam in a contradiction at that point and the conversation is generally pretty good.
For me, Scott is primarily entertainment rather than persuasive political comment, I was entertained for a while, then I turned it off.
Sam Harris is one of the militant “new atheists”. He wants to lead humanity to a better existence, a kind of “brave new world” that he imagines will result from denying the existence of God.
He doesn’t know why there is something rather than nothing, why the universe or anything in it, including himself, exists at all but he knows God didn’t create it. He is just another example of the blind leading the blind. As the saying goes, both will fall into a ditch.
I listen to Sam Harris regularly and he’s good on many things. But on Trump and climate change he acts like a hyper-emotional 12 year old.
For example, he thinks the best example of Trump’s lack of character and ethics is that he showed no remorse or regret regarding the company that licensed the rights to Trump U. And yet Hillary didn’t blink when Bill raped – something’s violently – several women. The entire podcast is littered with examples of cognitive dissonance like this.
On climate, Harris was parroting the 97% consensus, years after it was discredited. He argued that renewables will employ many more people than fossil fuels, without understanding that it’s not a good thing when it requires more people and money to produce the same unit of energy. China’s renewables are cited as an argument against Trumps’s support of coal even as China is currently building over 700 of the world’s 1600 new coal planets.
Harris was embarrassed.
“For example, he thinks the best example of Trump’s lack of character and ethics is that he showed no remorse or regret regarding the company that licensed the rights to Trump U. And yet Hillary didn’t blink when Bill raped – something’s violently – several women. ”
1) Tu qoque
2) No proof Bill raped anyone
Scott Adams is a lunatic who pushes ‘psycholinguistics’, which is pseudo-science. His theory that Trump is a ‘master media manipulator’ was plainly retarded when he first proposed it and is more so now.
Sam Harris is a piece of work. He does not realize Adams destroyed him multiple times. I stand by my earlier comments that there are none so blind as those that will not see.
Sam Harris is not as smart, neither as philosophically minded, nor as scientifically minded, as I thought.
If Sam Harris wants to have a discussion on the subject of climate change, the role of carbon dioxide and the history of the earth with Antony Watt and Dr. Tim Ball. Please let us know.
This discussion is painfull to listen to.
Scott Adams has a better grasp of larger, complicated issues requiring executive decisions.
The guiding proverb is: “Process is the better part of reality”(Alfred North Whitehead).
For Pres. Trump to propose a Red Team, Blue Team on climate change is wisdom.
President Trump is a better Chief Executive for America than Sam Harris would be.
Having an internationally successful Chief Executive as President and another one as Secretary of State, that is as good as it gets in times like these.
“No proof Bill raped anyone.”
Whatever. Multiple women have alleged sexual assault, including another very credible claimant just last year.
When sued by one, the judge found him in contempt, the bar stripped his law license and he eventually settled the case privately.
He’s just unlucky I guess.
“No proof Bill raped anyone.”
No proof of Trump colluding with the Russians.
Yet the media obsesses on the latter allegations and ignored the former. There certainly would have been more ratings money in investigating Bill.
“No proof Bill raped anyone.”
Hillary Clinton: … sexual assault victims have a right to be believed, and we’re with you. (deleted from her website Feb 2016)
I gave up after a while. It’s just too painful to listen to Harris stuck on Trump-is-evil-because-Trump-is-evil-therefore-Trump-is-evil. It’s typical of the leftist worldview of comic book heroes and villains in which those labelled “good” can do no wrong no matter how egregious their behaviour (Bill Clinton – serial rapist) and those labelled “evil” are perceived to wake up in the morning plotting to destroy the world (Steven Harper – seriously?!?!).
