Ok, probably best technical beat down of PM Trudeau by anyone in Canadian mainstream media. Ever.
    Matthew Fisher
Without a doubt, Canada was one of the defence-spending laggards to which Trump referred. According to a recent table published by The Economist, by the measure of defence spending as a percentage of GDP Canada swims almost at the bottom of the alliance’s pool with such minnows as Luxembourg.
Many NATO countries, most notably Germany, have increased defence spending this year. Canada is until now the sole outlier, having deferred billions of dollars of defence spending in this year’s federal budget.
On Thursday in Brussels Trudeau dodged questions when asked about demands by Trump and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg to honour the pledge, reaffirmed three years ago by every member of the military alliance, to gradually increase each country’s defence spending to at least 2 per cent of GDP.
Depending on which figures are to be believed, Canada now spends between .88 per cent and .98 of GDP per year on defence. But Trudeau and Defence minister Harjit Sajjan repeated vague promises that the long-awaited Defence Policy Review will call for some additional spending when it is finally published on June 7.
There’s more, lots more. How about this gem…
The Liberal government has tried recently to change the discussion on defence spending by highlighting what the government believes is the quality of its contributions to NATO missions. The prime minister has often boasted about what Canada did in Afghanistan although Canada was one of the first countries to bring its combat troops home from there and that was now six years ago.
    Or….
In another move Thursday that will be unlikely to curry favour in Washington, Trudeau rejected an urgent request from Trump and Stoltenberg to provide more military trainers and surveillance aircraft for the war on terror in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
In fact, the prime minister confirmed Thursday that Canada has quietly shrunk its already small part in the war against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. It recently cut in half its aerial-reconnaissance capability in Iraq by bringing home one of the two Kuwait-based CP-140 Aurora spy planes that the U.S.-led coalition had been using to target ISIL. This followed last year’s withdrawal of CF-18 fighter jets from bombing missions against ISIL in Iraq and Syria.
Well played Matthew Fisher, excellent analysis.
PS: Our PM is a douce bag trying to cash in our Canadian treasures lost and sacrificed in Afghanistan as an excuse to wiggle out of its NATO spending commitments.

  2. Meanwhile in the peaceful South Sea islands… more jihad. Recall the two Canadians beheaded by Abu Sayaf Islamist jihadis. Maybe the Philippine gov’t. will do what the Canadian Trudeau gov’t. refused to okay back then, the destruction of Islamist jihadi.

Thousands of residents flee Marawi as insurgents battle Philippines troops, raise Islamic State flag

Government troops are engaging insurgents in Marawi City with heavy gunfire. Reuters: Romeo Ranoco
The Philippines has mobilised attack helicopters and special forces to drive Islamic State-linked rebels out of a besieged southern city, with six soldiers killed in street combat amid heavy resistance.
    Key points:
Militants seized more than a dozen hostages and raised ISIS flag
Duterte warned he would expand martial law to the rest of the country
At least 21 people killed and thousands have evacuated the city
Ground troops hid behind walls and armoured vehicles and exchanged volleys of gunfire with Maute group fighters, shooting into elevated positions occupied by militants who have held Marawi City on Mindanao island for two days.
Helicopters circled the city, peppering Maute positions with machine gun fire to try to force them from a bridge vital to retaking Marawi, a mainly Muslim city of 200,000 where fighters had torched and seized a school, a jail and a cathedral, and took more than a dozen hostages…

  3. Trump went to NATO and reminded the members what their mandate was and their responsibility to provide a militarily capable contribution.
Trudeau went to NATO to be a fashion plate for mens hosery.
I’ll just leave that out there.

“Lootings are common in Venezuela, as socialist economic policies – particularly, the strict price controls, food rationing, and military control of the food supply – have left most Venezuelans unable to procure three meals a day. Most Venezuelans lost 19 pounds in 2016 due to failure to find enough food to maintain their weight; an estimated 15 percent of Venezuelans survive by eating garbage.”

  7. What about all the green combat uniforms Chretien gave the Afghanis. That must count for something.

  8. That wasn’t the Montana way. What’s the matter? Did Gianforte leave his .45 at home? The reporter was trespassing and assaulted him with a microphone. I would demand a jury trial. Does the District Attorney actually want to get re-elected? I suspect not.

  9. When will Western Countries en masse get serious and take severe action against ISLAMIC TERRORISM instead of the usual reaction…”our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of…whatever the latest atrocity happens to be..and sit back and wait for the next atrocity. They have a hard time calling it by name,as long as political correctness reigns we are doomed to more of the same.
Through stupid immigration we are allowing the dregs of humanity their freedoms and we are losing ours as we cower in fear of the nest act of terror.
We are not in good hands and they know it and are taking advantage of it.
We know they are in our midst, our countries have brought them here and continue to do so. Name the elephant and go after it with no holds barred. We need to hear from our leaders “we are at war with ISLAMIC terrorism, until them we are sitting ducks. We need action, not reaction.

  10. @Liz J: Go get a burqua, Turdoo’s only action will be to allow this to happen.

  11. That is quite an eye-opener and very worrying. All Canadians should view that video report if they want to know what the government and the duplicitous civil service is up to. These people are traitors — undermining our country and seeking to keep us in the dark about their activities.

  12. With the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada coming to an end shortly and the lamentations of a general lack of leadership across the Western World it would behoove Canadians of the left leaning variety to read the requirements desired by the movers and shakers of “The Party of the People!”

With Li’l Potato Head representing Canada at this years G-7 and God forbid hosting the G-7 next year and the mentality of the leadership of the NDP also in question, if you are a Conservative in Canada you should be very, very afraid!

  13. This comment is related to the issue of foreign interference in our last Federal Election. I hope this issue is picked up by Elections Canada. I anticipate that the media will not give it much coverage. I think there were a number of anti-Harper activities which may well have been funded by some foreign source. One big one is Duffy’s lawyer. I would like to know who paid the guy. His strategy was to spin the thing out and maneuver the enquiry into anything that could be used to throw mud at Harper. It is amazing how interest in Duffy and his trial virtually disappeared once the election was over and there was no need to use it as a wedge against Harper. A second “activity” that was funded by someone was a series of talks pointing to the “anti-science” agenda of Harper. That has always been a load of nonsense, but in Ottawa (perhaps elsewhere) someone was paid to present these talks. Seems a while ago, but the dirty tactics of the Liberals/left in the last election still anger me. And, as usual, the media gives the Liberals a pass. I have not seen anything in our newspaper about the report that Joan Crockett has brought forward. To add insult to injury, after complaining about Harper’s every move, the Liberal are undermining our country in multiple ways. We are being handed over to the globalist/UN/NWO and our sovereignty, economy and cultural values are suffering. I think Canada will take a serious economic hit within 5 years due to high taxes (including C02 tax), overspending and obstructionism on getting our resources to the market.

  14. The problem Linda is that our political leaders are so cowed at this point that they refuse to believe we are being beaten. A broadcaster in Britain raised the same question that you are asking and was run off the air.

She is now being investigated for hate speech and thanks to Trudeau and M-103 Canadians that are demanding an answer to this question will soon find themselves on the short end of the Human Rights stick.

  15. Like you, I would like to see more serious coverage of the issue of foreign interference in our elections. I use the plural because IMO the 2015 election was not the only one in which there was foreign interference or influence.
However, it is unfortunate that Ms. Crockatt decided to bring up the issue during the time that media attention is focused on NATO/G7 meetings, with the media breathlessly awaiting President Trump’s faux pas — be they real or imagined, with him obliging. It was not very presidential of him to shove the Montenegro PM out of his way … but should the news world be agog waiting to see what kind of handshake he gives, or whether his wife swats away his offered hand?
Add to that kind of gossip the much too real Manchester terrorist attack and the manipulation of the 2015 election is relegated to the back pages. The issue was discussed on the CBC’s PnP panel but as usual Rosie Barton handled it as she does most conservative representatives: she either shuts them off by countering them, arguing with them, talking over them, or breaking into an irritating cackle.
FYI: google “canada decides” to find some articles on the issue.

Consider the choice of target: an Ariana Grande concert. Not a gathering of police officers, soldiers, politicians, Christians, Jews or even “capitalists.” Young people having fun at a pop concert. Why them?
Part of the answer is that it’s random. Terrorism aims to be unpredictable.”

[Hillary] Clinton also painted a portrait of a political environment where some are hostile to the fundamentals of an enlightened society and are engaged in “full-fledged assault on truth and reason.”
“When people in authority invent their own facts and attack those who question them, it can mark the beginning of the end of a free society,” she said.
