Oh, Shiny Prime Minister!

Toronto Star;

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canadian companies operating abroad are expected to obey the law after a Bombardier employee in the Swedish offices of the plane and train maker was detained Friday in pretrial custody on suspicion of aggravated bribery.
Evgeny Pavlov, a Russian national living in Stockholm, was one of several Bombardier employees “suspected to have been colluding” with Azerbaijan railway authorities “in order to adapt a contract” to fit Bombardier, Swedish prosecutor Thomas Forsberg said.
Forsberg said Pavlov worked with Bombardier Transportation Sweden AB. On LinkedIn, Pavlov described himself as “Head of sales, Marketing and Country co-ordinator for the north region.”

Whatever was he thinking? When you work for Bombardier, the government bribes you!

  1. Can’t wait for Canadian media to start demanding an investigation of Trudeau and the Russia connection. As if that will ever happen.

  2. Right on, TimR!!
Oh, wait….did you say “Canadian Media”? That’s kinda like government intelligence isn’t it?
And don’t expect a break on your taxes that we have wasted over the years with this siphon of a company.
Ask the LRT line that Kitchener is building. Ask them how long the delays from Bombardier are.
Our taxes in full view for the waste that they are.

  3. Why the Swedes? Were they expecting the same bribes as the Azerbaijanis? Maybe the Azerbaijanis actually thought the Canadian trains wouldn’t fall apart like the Ikea trains.
If they were careful, Bombardier is likely insulated from bribery because they likely pay their sales agents on a basis that avoids any implication of bribes.

  4. “When you work for Bombardier, the government bribes you!”
Kate! You’re sounding like Oleg Atbashian at “The People’s Cube” now!!

  5. “Michel Nadeau, executive director of the Institute for Governance of Private and Public Organizations, said he too doesn’t think the arrest will affect the company’s relationship with governments in Canada.
“I would say it’s part of the daily life of big companies that do business with governments, to be, eventually now and then, accused of corruption,” he said.
Nadeau used to be president of the investment arm of Quebec’s pension fund, which in 2015 bought a 30-per-cent stake in the holding company of Bombardier Transportation — the company’s rail division, headquartered in Berlin.”
It’s always good to quote an “ethical” and totally unbiased source to assure everyone that everything is indeed on the up and up.
Quebec business community is as incestuous as that burg in “Deliverance”,and they think we are as handicapped as the banjo player, and will believe their bullshit stories.

  6. Since the money went from Canadian taxpayers via Bombardier to an Azerbaijan government agency, can’t we just label it, “Foreign Aid” and call it good?

  7. Anybody remember Karl Heinz Schreiber? KHS, a Canadian citizen who has taken up residency in Germany (prison) for taking down the Helmut Kohl government. He was a bribery artist who was a personal friend of Mulroney. The fool Mulroney did it for a mere 300k wrapped up in a brown paper bag (although it is speculated that the actual amount was millions).
The point is these corruptions take place all the time in quebek right out in the open. Their government and business leaders engage in bribery/kickback schemes at will. With the kind of taxpayer money bombardier gets tossed at them it would be almost inconceivable that a ‘finders fee’ isn’t attached to the awarding of the grants, contracts that are handed out.
Occasionally someone gets a little careless and gets caught. It isn’t a politician who ends up in jail though it’s the evil guy who offered the bribe. Helmut Kohl was driven from office in Germany. Mulroney suffered a modest loss in reputation but hey he’s from quebek where it’s a badge of honour.

  8. Yepper Robert; For about Three Thousand Years is a close enough guess. But being from Ottawa y’all know and understand this. Cheers; (Hopefully?)

  9. I think we as Canadians need to start asking the AG to Audit the Trudeau Foundation I think you will see more money going into it with every deal he makes for millions of dollars, a contribution to his party of his Foundation…get the drift!!

  10. Yes.
Basically the Canadian taxpayer has been carrying Bombardier for years under the guise of loans that doubtfully are ever paid back. Just another form of what goes on elsewhere.
These guys just got caught. Much of the world operates in the same manner
Bombardier is not the only dubious Quebec enterprise, think also dairy products.

  11. If you do not think liberalism is a mental disorder, consider the following:
A failed mayor from the west Glen Murray is airlifted to Toronto and wins his seat with a majority, A man who spent 30 plus years out of the country Michael Ignatieff comes to Toronto and wins his seat with a majority, a mediocre newswoman Christa Freeland comes back from the USA and wins her seat with a majority.
It’s conceivable that the liberals could run a yellow dog in the election and the liberal sheep would cast their vote his way.

  12. Bribery is wrong. But if they can’t bribe, they might as well pack their bags and come home, because they won’t do any business without being prepared to pay bribes.
