I wouldn’t think they would check the facts. It is the nature of fools. But I understand why you can’t understand.
I suspect that although the voyage begins in August, it will be well into September before they start through the NorthWest Passage. September is when ice extent is lowest but even then, although there may be a passage it won’t necessarily be the route shown as these areas often have persistent floating ice even if not solidly frozen over.
I’m sure you all noted that they have taken precautions:
“The U.S.-owned Crystal Cruises has chartered its own icebreaker, which will follow the ship the entire time. On board, the company says, there will be polar navigation specialists and ice-spotting radar and lights.” No wonder it’s so expensive.

I believe they will successfully complete the voyage but very likely not entirely as planned and probably not without some scary moments. The truth is that ice extent was substantially greater 30 years ago and the trend has been some up, some down but overall a steady decline.

Zealots masquerading as scientists need to be held accountable for their advocacy. One way would be for them to put some skin in the game by not being allowed any form of rescue or back-up like an Ice Breaker. If their aim is to demonstrate how the ice cap is disappearing then by all means show us but if they require failure insurance, it belongs in the publicity stunt category where the media won’t report the failure.
