1. NO! Being human makes them selfish. Socialism makes them ass holes.

2. Many years ago, my wife worked as the curator of a historical house in an Ontario city. She had a visit from a young Swede who was in North America for several months to study how Canada and the US handled heritage sites.
   When my wife mentioned the tremendous contribution to the house made by dedicated volunteers (underlining that her “bosses” – the local heritage committee* – also acknowledged that the house could not be operated without such volunteers), the Swede responded, “You’re lucky. In Sweden, the volunteers would expect to be paid by the government.”
   * Who were themselves all unpaid volunteers.

4. Any Canadian who has traveled to the US frequently can tell you that Americans are much more likely to help you in a jam than a Canadian. Don’t believe what that CBC tells you about the character of Canadians vs Americans! In Southern Ontario people will slow down to gawk, pass judgement ( look at what that idiot has got hisself into ), then proceed. Rarely, if ever, will any of them offer any assistance.

   Well that’s Ontario, what would you expect? We freeloading Maritimers would be very helpful to even those ‘from away’ who are having a problem.

6. Getting something for nothing, even to the most hollowed-out soul, is considered a temporary phenomenon as everyone knows (at some level) that it will end. Thus the scramble to “get it while it lasts” whether it be public resources (the commons) or shiny objects. It’s the metaphysical equivalent of looting and the means by which today’s political class exists (of which the media is integral), essentially as brokers of loot. Their challenge is to find balance between their electorate at the trough and those still willing to produce the swill. Too much NDP and the the producers eventually leave or join the looters. Too much “Conservative” and the pigs (looters) get restless and agitated by their “brokers”.

10. In all seriousness, we are all born selfish. It is what gets a baby fed … the constant wailing and bleating like a baby sheep. It is what propels our society to build creature comforts …. like shelter. It is what created … “Agriculture” … “Tools” … “Technology”. All in a desire to satisfy our selfish need for survival.
    What is “selfish” to today’s socialist … was “survival” to our forefathers.
    Don’t believe me ? Then just READ about the need for innovation and creativity needed to get FED in Venezuela. If you don’t get “selfish as hell” in Venezuela … your gene pool will die-off. Which is probably why the Socialist state keeps failing … because they discover it is impossible to live off the Selfishness of OTHER PEOPLE like Chavez’s Billionaire daughters … or Hillary Clinton … who are FAR BETTER at being selfish than the rest of us.
    Each individual person queuing up on the Colombian border in the oppressive Equatorial heat … is SELFISHLY … desperately … trying to survive the politbureau elites who are much better at being selfish than they (were).

11. Close to twenty years ago, RVing at an Arizona State Park, heavy winds blew a large tree limb down on a rig – for the most part (and if I remember correctly it was a Canadian rig) the Canadians looked out their windows while the Americans got busy with chain saws cleaning up the mess.
    So, based on that, I’d agree with you.
