Renegade Regulator

Restore CSA;

Manufacturers understand CSA. That is, they know that CSA testing isn’t real, certifications mean nothing, etc. But they treat CSA’s staged processes as just part of the cost of doing business in Canada. It’s like a tax, you pay if you want to play.
Manufacturers start talking when CSA induced expenses begin to outstrip their revenues. One manufacturer recently complained to us about CSA’s money grubbing. Apparently the CSA hits them up for money at every possible stage of their business operations. The CSA even charges just to update a file.
“When [certain] components became obsolete they were changed” to other already approved components. Just to register that change “in CSA’s paperwork or computer, their MINIMUM charge is $825.00 PER CHANGE.  This is $2,475.00 for [these] three changes.  Along with this, there is[an] annual CSA maintenance charge of $1123.50.”  And on top of that, CSA charges for mandatory site inspections, most of which don’t involve any actual inspection.

  1. Waste, waste and more waste. I’ve read with interest many of the Restore CSA submissions. What a terribly corrupt beauracracy! How is it that they continue on? I’m sure it’s easier to do business in Mexico by this point.

  2. Way off topic-
For all Brian Lilley fans, he is now guest-hosting Mark Sutcliffe’s Chatroom and then Lowell Green’s Island of Sanity from 9:10am to noon eastern at cfra.com

  3. Buricrats making you signa mount everest of papers just to get a simple task done then find one tiny error and make you sign a bigger mountian of papers until your ready to beat the buricrats brains out

  4. As an engineer of 20+ years, I wrote to the Minister of Industry whose bureaucracy is responsible for this mess, and asked whether or not the CSA had the force of federal law, and why he wasn’t doing something about the shameful behavior. His answer was that while the Ministry oversaw the regulations, it was not directly responsible for CSA practice and there was nothing he could do.
In short, James Moore disavowed knowledge of or responsibility for the CSA. And since it’s statutes don’t have the backing of federal law, anyone having issues with them should tell them to go to hell until they do or until the Ministry steps in.

Me too. Same result: an untruthful answer. What he meant was, there was nothing he “would” do. We all know that there is absolutely nothing but cowardice that stops him from raising the issue in caucus(or the House)to get things changed.
And even though the election campaign is in full swing, there isn’t a whisper about this intolerable situation coming from any of the opposition parties either. And no questions about it from our pathetic press.

  6. Classic proof of the existence of the Canadian Media Guide/Party, if we had a viable journalism population, this kind of corrupt bureaucratic practise would be front page news.
However as it will make all politicians look like the ass kissing fools and bandits they be, their media sycophants will not even attempt to understand how corrosive and destructive these kind of govt protection rackets are.
CSA and Industry Canada are the heart of the kleptocracy.
A theft and extortion ring able to use the full force of government apparatus to crush any who resist them.
Of course the Progressive conservatives ignore this and the Dippers and Libtards solution will be More Government, to correct these excesses of too much government.

  7. James Moore CINO, Minister for the Preserviation of the Liberal Status Quo In Government Beauracracies (including the CBC) represents a net gain with his departure. A true panty waist.

  8. “For all Brian Lilley fans, he is now guest-hosting Mark Sutcliffe’s Chatroom and then Lowell Green’s Island of Sanity…”
    Good.
Now, all CFRA has to do is to find a replacement for Justin’s handmaiden, Pierre Bourque.
