Our reader tips selection for this evening is a quaint little election season ditty by the members of the Chilliwack Senior Centre titled Take Back This Land.
Tip of the hat to Randy, one of our left of centrish readers. (And Randy? Don’t go into the comments. Just trust me on this.)

  1. Well, that was nicely…generic. I had to watch a few of their other videos to figure out exactly what it was they felt Canada needed taking back from. This is a fine example of what T.S. Eliot called “the endless struggle to think well of themselves”.

  2. I laughed out loud when I watched this. I remember similar songs from the (NDP inspired) Waffle Movement, an extreme left organization that permeated our Saskatchewan youth back in the 70’s.
    When you’ve lived under NDP rule in Saskatchewan and watched your province being devoured by the labour unions, or seen potholes on the highways that were so big the ducks were swimming in circles inside, or you recall having parked near the Sask-Alberta border on the Trans-Canada highway rest stop near Medicine-Hat and watched 50 U-hauls in 45 minutes being pulled by pickups with Sask. plates, *all headed west, you simply don’t fall for that stuff!!
    *We haven’t seen too many U-hauls headed west lately.

  5. For months the progressives have been railing on about income inequality. Of course their solutions are always tax the rich and more government spending. As this research shows, they have it backwards as usual.

  6. OMG. Chilliwack? Talk about a blast from the past. Some people get older without ever evolving and these guys are simply a broken record.
    It’s amazing how such people want to discard virtually everything that made Canada what it is today and then claim they want to “take back” their country. They don’t want it back, they want it changed into something it never was.
    Tedious. Tiresome. Totally bogus.
    ‘Salt Spring Live’ hosts these videos and virtually everyone on Salt Spring is living on an island they want frozen in time. Our new NDP candidate is a trustee on the Islands Trust which opposes any kind of development on any of the Gulf Islands.

  7. I kinda liked the song but the message was confusing. After careful deliberation I realized the plea was to get rid of all these tree hugging leeches and green simpletons that are bent on sending Canada into the economic garbage can. It was a call for the return of sanity before Liz May, Suzuki and Wynn as well as their brainwashed minions destroy what’s left of what once was a proud and independent society. Then it occurred to me that since they all looked caucasian, perhaps they were telling the Indians to get a life, get a job and get out of our wallets. But they all looked fairly straight so maybe the message was that days were better before gays busted down the closet door and made not only acceptance mandatory, but also approval with parades to signify they had accomplished something worth celebrating that most Canadians haven’t been able to see. Gotta be one of them if they want to take back the country. Sure as hell can’t be a election message from the Libs, Greens or NDP because it’s not called “we’ve got to destroy the rest of the country”.

  9. I agree! I have lived enough under an NDP provincial government in Saskatchewan to know I never want to see a Federal NDP government. Ontario had an even worse experience under Bob Rae. The Liberal Party of Canada has slipped from left of center to socialist after PET’s time and now have slid into loonie territory, not much better than the Greens.

  18. On this day, 70 years ago, Hiroshima, experienced the fun of a baby nuclear runaway. Nagasaki followed three days later with a slightly older and bigger version. And SJW posties are worried about the mail? We are soooooooo fu$%ed as a country. The vermin that inhabit our so called spaces of government really need to be sprayed with a good rodenticide.

  22. Ken, Ontario is now having an even worse economic disaster under the Liberals, it started with the management of McGuinty and continues under Mommy Wynne. The Ontario Liberals have far exceeded Rae’s record and now we have Mommy Wynne blatantly and arrogantly supporting Trudeau simply because she needs someone in the PM’s chair she can manipulate.

  23. Lat time I saw Bill Henderson he was spouting the same nebulous concepts through incongruent lyrical prose. This screed put to music is similar – I had to listen several times to remotely understand the theme of the ranting.
    I Kept hearing “we” (undefined entity) must take back democracy ( another undefined and nebulous concept to the singer) from some “corporation”. Now, I’m certainly against “corporateocracy” (soft fascism) but the closest we have ever come to that is under Liberal regimes – King (who was a Rockefeller asset/corporate dupe) and the PET/Chretien eras where the government was an extension of Powercorp where they had all spent time in the board room.
    If the demented Henderson is suggesting that Harper is a corporate dupe he has no concept of how corporations buy government influence. Harper has shut the door to powerful corporate lobbies with legislation and criminal charges. Harper is totally unconnected to the Laurentian corporate oligarchy who have run Canada under Liberal and PC regimes, it’s the reason they use their media influence to savage him –
    So what’s he on about???

  25. Sorry peterj, nothing new there. We’ve had blind hockey players on the Canucks for years.
    On a side note, temperatures in the S. Okanagan will struggle to hit the high 20’s today, compared to today’s record high of 40C occurring 18 yrs ago. Based on IPCC scientific methodology, this is definitive proof we are entering an ice age.

  26. Take Back This Land? Generic tune, boring repetitive lyrics. Don’t mortgage the co-op to pay for releasing it. Aside from the melody and lyrics, it’s not bad.

  28. Chilliwack? Well, like most musicians they are brainwashed into the narrative. For some reason, it makes them feel edgy to be like everyone else in the field. Sure like their version of ‘Arms of Mary’ though.
    Could they make the “Captchas” a little harder to decipher, by the way? It often takes me a half dozen tries to have a successful post. Often I just give up. I don’t have anything THAT important to add.

  29. Looks like they’re on the same waveband as Trudeau and May, unfortunately this seems to be resonating with a lot of other aging hippies. I’d like to return this land to the period before the unmitigated disaster of multiculturalism, before the evisceration that the NEP gave us, before the Rae Days forced the outsourcing of the manufacturing engine of Ontario. The reality is that to get back to a time when a graduate from high school could make change without the aid of a computer/calculator, a time when we had more lumberjacks than tree-huggers, and a time when our native land wasn’t blighted by wind-farms, is today a pipedream because the socialists/fascists/communists have completed Orwell’s nightmare and the average Canadian voter is too pig-ignorant to realize the final destination of the road that they have been embarked upon under these “leaders”.
