Reader Tips

In tonight’s amusement en route to the tips the late Ian Dury, whose bout with childhood polio left him as perhaps the world’s first and only (non-blind) disabled pop star, enjoins you to hit him forcefully with your rhythm sticks. So hit him. Hit him. Hit him.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

  1. Why is my comment still held up o the ‘Y2Kyoto: I’ll Miss The Antarctic Penguins” thread below?
Do the comments of posters here at SDA mean nothing to the staff such that they do not check the filters, and if so, then why should anyone donate money to this site when the people who control it have so little care than to leave innocuous commentary stuck in the filter?
Do you not care that people have spent time and careful consideration crafting the comment that they post?

  2. I don’t comment a lot but I can say with certainty that I have never had a comment held up. Perhaps you are doing something wrong…

  3. That is possible. If so I’d like to know what it is.
Here is what I posted verbatim.
“The SCOTUS ruled that “States can’t prohibit same sex marriage” That is a long way from a bedrock institution that they MUST promote.”
Irrelevant. Here is what you said, in case you, everyone else, and God can’t see above for themselves:
“I will trade Gay Marriage for the end of the EPA agenda anytime!”
    ~Philip G Shaw
    You will, will you, Phil?
    1) The SCOTUS, which is part of the federal government, has no constitutional authority over the institution of marriage which pre-existed the SCOTUS and the federal government of the United States.
    2) The States don’t have to prohibit SSM, they can however refuse to recognize it as having any legal or social foundation because marriage doesn’t fall under U.S. government jurisdiction and the SCOTUS can’t force the States to recognize it because of the 10th Amendment.(in Canada we have something called the ‘Notwithstanding Clause’ which allows provinces to opt out of rulings by the federal government which fall outside of Federal jurisdiction, but Leftist politicians never/rarely use it)
    3) Culture comes from the grass roots of society, and SSM will die from lack of cultural support(especially government support, Government Has NO BUSINESS Promoting Culture) because less than 1% of the population are homos.
Now that that is out of the way, let’s look at your willingness to trade a rock-bed pillar of civilization for a transient political issue.
Have you ever heard the phrase: “Selling your birthright for a mess of pottage?”
That’s what you are promoting Philip Shaw.
That’s what you proposed above. It is an abhorrent and foolish trade, a pillar for a passing fad. If you aren’t a Leftist, you’re a sellout.
I won’t give a inch to any Leftist cause, and I know that Leftists plan to destroy civilization for an unobtainable half-baked idea of Utopia.
Leftists aren’t just people with a differing opinion, they’re the enemy.
It’s that simple and it’s not flippant or funny.

  4. No I am not. I read and re-read that post which is being held up and not one single word is outside the pale of decency nor have I said anything remotely libelous. A particular administrator here is simply being a jerk about that post.

  5. Thanks EBD, I just loved Ian Dury’s stuff – a guy no one said would make it – crippled by polio and held back by east London cockney accent – he blazed a new trail in Brit pop music and deflated a lot of pomposity along the way. From my perspective he and Chas Jenkel successfully merged disco-pop-rock and English music hall melody into a new genre of musical/lyrical comedy. My favorite was Mash it up Harry – an ode to the zombie hordes churned out by public ed.

  7. One of the words in the comment automatically triggered the filter. I released the comment.

  8. peterj: I was stunned by that piece you linked to. Hard to believe there are those ‘out there’ who subscribe to such sick ideas, let alone promote them.
I was totally unaware of the apparent widespread support – especially within academic circles for such deviancy.
I’ll be keeping an especially vigilant watch over my grandchildren.

“The attack on a tourist beach in Tunisia, which left 38 tourists dead, had a certain logic from the Leninist as well as from the Islamist point of view. The worse the better, said Lenin: the worse being the wretchedness of the condition in which people were forced to live, the better being the revolution consequent upon those conditions.”

  11. The Wildrose party is calling on the NDP government to address a media report alleging the chief of staff to the environment minister has a previous conviction for assault.
According to a report by Ezra Levant on online news site Rebel Media, Brent Michael Dancey was convicted in 1994 of assault causing bodily harm in relation to an incident in October 1993 in Regina that sent a man to hospital. Dancey would have been 18 at the time.
