Richmond Hill City Council Embarasses All Canadians

Apparently the “enlightened” folks on the City Council of Richmond Hill, Ontario believe that the Canadian Anthem would be offensive to their proceedings. At the risk of offending their delicate sensibilities, here’s a glimpse into what happened late last year at a Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. Apparently Dutch politicians aren’t offended by our anthem like their Richmond Hill colleagues are:

  1. They’re always impressed though with the Muslim Call to Prayer blaring from loudspeakers across conquered lands.

  2. Amusing though this is, I can’t really get worked up about what Richmond Hill does at its council meetings.
War memorials? Obviously. Canada Day, Victoria Day? Yup. Hockey games? Of course.
People who sing the national anthem at those places mean what they’re singing.
But Richmond Hill city council meetings? As Richmond Hill continues its slide into irrelevance? For them, it would be a fashion choice – sort of like what colour tie one wears to a formal dinner.
Still, the fact that this is a story does confirm La Rochefoucauld’s observation about hypocrisy being the tribute vice pays to virtue.

  3. You know another very serious matter concerning O Canada that just doesn’t get the attention it deserves? How come it’s always “O” Canada? I mean, why are we shutting out the other vowels? Isn’t t high time that A, E, I, and U got a chance? Just another sign of another ogeny stalking the land. I’m tellin’ ya, it’s one great college campus out there

  4. I’m not much for praying, but I’d rather such meetings were started with a prayer. I think it would be more annoying to most of the people who would be annoyed by the singing of the anthem.

  5. β€œIt’s a difficult time for Canada,” Councillor Greg Beros said
No it’s not, It’s not a difficult time at all – these pinch-nose prog wussies have lived in the longest period of peace and prosperity known by Canadians and Europeans – that peace and prosperity was paid for in blood. Canadians made the ultimate sacrifice so these eternal children boomers have the affluence and absence of conflict to become morbidly ignorant of the sacrifices made for their freedom.
The singing of the anthem at the commencement of a government function is not about who it offends but about who it honors – if these garden slugs on council are ready to make concessions to elements which have never secured their freedom and prosperity, they haven’t the best interests of their constituency or nation at heart.

  6. I always liked The Maple Leaf Forever better. “In Days of yore, from Britain’s shore, Wolfe, the dauntless hero came, And planted firm Britannia’s flag, On Canada’s fair domain.” Love it.

  7. Made me think of Rush’s 2112:
Attention all planets of the solar federation
    We have assumed control

  8. I agree. No doubt some of these councilors would be more comfortable singing the “Internationale”.
    Occam, exactly and well said.

  9. Evidently the Dutch have a sense and grasp of history; unlike the Richmond Hill revolutionaries whose single skill appears to be tearing down tradition.
They have remembered and learned precisely nothing.
    Cheers

    Army Group ‘True North’

  10. “They have remembered and learned precisely nothing.”
Hans, those are most prescient words for wayyyyyyyy too many Canadians these days. πŸ™

  11. Kick the assholes out of the meeting that are offended.
I’m offended they hate our guts and our politicians kiss their ass.
How about we have half the meetings with half the councilors and half the taxes, and we keep our money instead of giving it to these useless bloated parasites who can’t even hold a meeting.

  12. “Richmond Hill councillors who voted against the inclusion of the anthem cited concerns about legal implications of introducing it to council meetings.”
Legal implications ? I wish he would have explained that one or where the bright spark was that gave him that advice. Some native, anarchist or Muslim threaten to sue ? Looks like the attacks against celebrating Christmas have now spilled over to taking pride in one’s country. Wonder if the Dutch are interested in coming over here to liberate us ? At the rate we’re going we may need help.

  13. I’d prefer they start out with a prayer,too.
How about,”God grant me the strength of character to remember that I am here to SERVE the citizens to the best of my ability not for self-aggrandizement or to line the pockets of my friends”.
And, just to be really, really “inclusive”,I think they should sing the national anthem of Canada AND every Country that any of their citizens came from.
It might take up most of the meeting, but at least that way they’d do less harm.

  14. Ya know….being Dutch (born there), and a proud Canadian who has served….there is something missing in our great country…and it has been so for many years…
    …Its called BACKBONE
Standing up for your country and your values. A notion unknown to the progressives – or as I liken em, subversive Marxist sons of bitches – be they the lame stream media, eco-zombies, academia or the those in the political realm.
How to fix..?? Only determined armed insurrection will do it.
Failure in said resolve – we lose….
And to date, we are losing miserably…

  15. To ban the Canadian National Anthem is an unforgivable insult to all Canadians everywhere. This bunch of mental midgets, the councillors of Richmond Hill , has the audacity to criticize our anthem and its wording, so as not to offend? Offend whom?
The word God is representative of all higher powers that mankind honours, it could as well be Zeus, Manitou, Allah, Jehovah, whatever individual higher power you honour. Whoever is offended by the Canadian National Anthem should be ignored because of their ignorance, to ban it by a bunch of people elected by Canadians to represent them is criminal.
Sylvia Makk-Lainevool, living in Richmond Hill unfortunately.

  16. I have just listened to David Menzies interview with Councillors Taylor and Barrows, perhaps the dissenters would prefer to see the ISIS flag replace the Canadian flag outside of their chambers!
