  1. EBD is stuck in the 60’s!! And that’s great. That song by The Seekers was a great campfire song. The bright red flames and the sparkling cinders climbing towards the sky, while everyone was sipping on a ”Bohemian” was a great way to spend an evening. Then someone would come out with a statement like, ”I hope the Americans don’t back down from the Vietnam War,” and the argument was on!!
    Hmmmm—almost forgot!! Was Trudeau really a homo??

    That song was recorded in ”Duophonic stereo.” That was a fake stereo sound that was accomplished by splitting a single track recording in two, and introducing a delay between the two tracks.
    Nothing upsets me more than when I send someone a 60’s song that was recorded in an HQ stereo format and they try and listen to it on an Iphone with a speaker the size of a contact lens.
    Then they say: ”I can’t hear the words!!”

  7. As Joe Citizen said, a huge favorite around a bush party bonfire fueled by, if not Boh, probably Calgary or Black Label, or maybe even white lightning.

    Doesn’t surprise me that two social mammals have similar hormone reactions, I ‘ll bet the dog with a sence of smell 1000 times better smells it in your breath or on your skin, the idea of offering them the back of your hand to smell comes to mind

  11. It’s amazing how we have come full circle. Growing up we listened to and bought singles. These were mixed so that they sounded good on transistor radios or the tinny speakers that were found in cars.
    Later, the Beatles introduced the us to the idea of a concept album and we listened to albums on the best stereo equipment we could afford.
    Now we are back to singles with music that is highly compressed and mixed so that it only sounds good on MP3 players and smartphones.
    At least in the 60s the artists could sing and play their own instruments and didn’t need a horde of dancers to do a performance.

  17. Danke, Hans. Am currently listening to their 25th Anniversary concert. But was rather thinking about couples married in the 60s. This would have been one of the songs of their youth – and an appropriate remembrance a half century later.

  26. Right on Kuzo. Well said, agree fully. Time to legalize and tax it, ruining a person’s life for possession of a relatively harmless drug is asinine. This conservative supports full legalization and taxation of MJ.

    I guess my understanding of “Conservative” is different: “Cannabis is a dangerous drug and as such is a public health concern. It is the most common illicit drug involved in drugged driving, particularly in drivers under the age of 21. Early cannabis use is related to later substance use disorders.” – From the AMA – “Heavy cannabis use in adolescence causes persistent impairments in neurocognitive performance and IQ, and use is associated with increased rates of anxiety, mood, and psychotic thought disorders.”
    Yeah, let’s pretend that “real conservatives” support legalizing a substance that LOWERS IQ; isn’t that progressivism? Let’s also pretend that TAXATION is a viable conservative model.

    I am beginning to believe that many libertarians have LOST their minds – no doubt due to drugs, and have adopted emotionalism as their intellectual compass.

  29. Right or wrong, agree or disagree, all the same things could be said about alcohol and one thing we learned about prohibition is that it doesn’t work. Most people under 35 have no respect for cannabis laws or the heavy handed means the government uses to control it. It’s like arguing about politics or religion in the sense that you will not convince anyone to change their mind. Lots of proof from medical “experts” on both sides of the issue that cannabis is good or bad for you, with the truth being somewhere in the middle. A smart government would look at past battles over the decades and recognize that this whole issue is a waste of time and resources. All it really does is alienate the younger voters and send them into the Liberal/NDP camps. We live in a time where perversions are not only accepted but being taught in grade school, where being white, having moral standards, believing in god and not applauding mental illness is frowned upon. Seems to me that pot would be the least of our problems. That ship has sailed. Tax the hell out of it and treat it like booze or tobacco would be the most logical route. Anyway, this is Readers Tips and Kate will soon come down on us like the hammer of Thor, so I’m outa here.

    However, a new progress report from the Defense Department casts serious doubts on the progress of the program.
    The DOD’s Director of Operational Test and Evaluation cites everything from computer system malfunctions to flaws with its basic design—it even found that the jet is vulnerable to engine fires because of the way it’s built.
    A separate report from Military.com unearthed another embarrassing issue with the jet that suggests it won’t take off on time.
    The “precision-guided Small Diameter Bomb II doesn’t even fit on the Marine’s version of the jet,” according to Military.com. On top of that, the software needed to operate the top close-air support bomb won’t even be operational until 2022, inspectors said.
    The Defense Department’s report also suggested that the program’s office isn’t accurately recording the jet’s problems.
    “Not all failures are counted in the calculation of mean flight hours between reliability events, but all flight hours are counted, and hence component and aircraft reliability are reported higher than if all of the failures were counted,” the report said.

  32. Well EBD, you and others here “reignite the heart”, mine in particular, so much that I went to Amazon and purchased a Seekers audio CD. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed their music in 1965 while driving in a Pontiac Pariesiene convertible with my wife of a year.
    Btw, great choices from the 60s. Never mind what all the young f*rts say. They can listen to the absolute screeching noise of today.

    great loves of trudeau’s life was Michael Pitfield who was the head of the Senate. He purportedly accompanied the newly weds on their honeymoon. Little wonder Maggie has had mental health issues all her life after being married to that flake.

    Back in the day of Tommy (also a preacher) Douglas figured that stripping could only happen if there is no booze or the ladies wore more that the local girls on the corner of Albert street. Fire and brimstone faced those men who were tired of seeing grannie panties and hair curlers after a double shift. Now, in the twenty-first century,and where folks can actual see a white nipple on on internet access device. With industry bringing in tons of workers with money to spend, any progress in common sense has been quashed by Don McMorris, minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA).
    The only thing more obscene thing is the pilot project to sell some beer in 499 or so grocery stores. Of course there will now be as “beer tax” to compensate the Beer Store loss of monopoly. Molson-Coors, Anheuser-Busch InBev and Sapporo, will be crying in their beer naturally. And don’t even get my started on how the craft beer industry is being dismissed.

  43. The Pitfield-Trudeau gay affair was a popular rumour in the day. I first heard it from no less a figure than Matthew Fisher, but I did notice that he never actually included it in any of his news reporting, so I assumed it to be mere talk. After many years, there seems to have emerged no confirmation of Pierre Trudeau’s gayness, and I’ve started to conclude that it really was mere talk. As I believe I’ve mentioned before, the young Trudeau was a flaming pansy, an extremely effeminate creature, and that was all he needed to convince Quebeckers that he was gay. There just doesn’t seem to be more to it.
