  1. wowsers…i thought that would be a natural..
save carbon and make it up by stopping another tax..
of course ,carbon would end up puttng a tax on
    everything..
    food ,housing, living ..etc..

  2. No surprise, considering the ruling government told voters to reject the proposal. It would have created fiscal chaos by scrapping the VAT, which in any case is a more stable revenue base for the government. The lopsided vote was about the economics of VAT, and about the ruling coalition asserting its dominance over an opposition party.
So now Switzerland is left with only its existing carbon tax, in-house cap-and-trade scheme, and commitment to meeting its Kyoto targets in 2020. Nice example!

  3. Whats realy needed is a HOT AIR TAX to be paid by those who produce it like Liberal Politicians,Enviroemntalists leaders,Enviromentalists activists, the United Nations and Various world leaders(Obama,Prince Charles etc)and the makers of Windturbines, and solar mirrors

  4. Roy Green often talks about the ability of the Swiss electorate to overrule any piece of legislation. This is a beautiful thing.
One can only hope that the upcoming referendum on BC’s Translink tax increase will result in a similarly large defeat.
