The solar photo-voltaic (PV) industry has another victim: Q-CELLS plant in Thalheim, Germany. As of March 1, 2015, the plant will cease production altogether and will only be selling PV panels made in Malaysia, 550 of its previous workforce of 800 will be laid off. Not that long ago, in 2007, the company had a workforce of 1700 and claimed to be the world’s largest producer of PV panels. (h/t Adrian)

Ding-ding-ding-ding! We a have winner, his name is Robert Of Ottawa.
All of these alternative or “Renewable” energy sources are subsidized to
the hilt! Wind, solar, pumped storage, unicorn farts, whatever, are as
expensive as hell and horribly inefficient to boot. And while we are on
the subject, can we find some word other than renewable? The last time I
checked, renewable energy violates the laws of physics!
Maggie Thatcher said the problem with socialism is that sooner or later,
you run out of other people’s money. My guess is that German company
lost it’s subsidies. Downsizing and importing PV panels in an attempt
to remain viable is consistent with a large and sudden loss of cash flow.
Here in the People’s Republic of Obongo, the company would have siphoned off
a half billion bucks and filed bankruptcy year later after producing a few
thousand panels for show. I am sure some the Solyndra dollars will end up
in the official Obama crony capitalism Library.
