Oh, Shiny Pony!

Oh nooos!

Former Canadian Forces general Andrew Leslie will carry the Liberal banner in Orléans in next year’s federal election, but his nomination Saturday was marred by a chaotic and divisive scene in which police had to break up a noisy scuffle.
Leslie, an advisor to Liberal leader Justin Trudeau, was acclaimed by Liberals in Ottawa-Orléans as their candidate for the 2015 election, when the riding will be known simply as Orléans.
But the event turned into a political embarrassment for Leslie when his only rival, Ottawa lawyer David Bertschi, showed up with some angry supporters to complain that the party had acted undemocratically last month in disqualifying him from seeking the nomination.
“Shame, shame, shame,” some of those Liberals chanted as it became clear that Leslie was about to be acclaimed without a fight from his rival.

Not again!

  1. If this attitude and strategy keeps up, I can see another election with the NDP staying as the Official Opposition. All those upset Liberal voters switching to the NDP. Now that being said, popcorn anyone?

  2. I used to love popcorn until the Kathleen Wynne / Orville Redenbacher resemblance became too much to bear.

  3. When LIEberal members of 40 years are tearing up their membership cards it should tell the ‘leadership’ something.
But it most likely won’t as they are tone deaf to the mere hoi poloi in their party.
But of course JT admires Chinese style dictatorships, so you can draw the appropriate conclusion.

  4. The man who wrote a report advocating cutting large numbers of senior DND civil servants and consultants is going to become a federal politician? The leak of his retirement moving expenses was just a warning. He’s about to learn the civil service bureaucracy runs this country and has a long and vindictive memory.

  5. The Liberal brain trust is stirring up a real stench in the Shiny Pony stable. You don’t take away the right of the people in any riding to choose who they want to represent them without resentment and division.
Let’s hope the people of Orleans show them who’s the boss.

  6. riding associations used to have power. they can take some of that power back by refusing to endorse any candidate that has been foisted on them from outside the riding.

  7. I seems the Libranos “kid rock” thinks Lib democracy works the same way as when he was anointed as heir apparent emperor of Canada’s natural aristocrat party – pick the “Rock Star” candidate and the party exec makes the process/balloting conform to the outcome needed. The party is reinventing democracy along with its new image (disguise). An aristocrat heir must surround himself with a royal entourage at all costs.

  8. piss off the mohibs and you loose some votes, piss off the Eyeties and you may just gain a mafiosi lead package

  9. How long before rank and file Liberals wake up and realize they’re being treated like nothings, incapable of choosing their candidates at the riding level? This is no way to build a party badly in need of re-building.

  10. For Liberals this is your basic whack a mole. The drama queen is the one with the mallet.
Though it must be said that there is some of that in conservative circles, except Harper probably does not get involved, could be wrong.
An then there are socialists/fascist, that is their standard operating procedure. That who thinks outside of the socialist dogma is crushed into pulp, thrown in the dustbin to be never heard of.
    That is the totalitarian diktat.

  11. I don’t see what people are getting all upset about. Candidate selection is too complex for most ignorant voters to handle. The leadership therefore selects the best candidate, as it should. The voters benefit. It’s a win-win process.

  12. And..not one word about this controversy on cbc’s political ‘scrum’ this a.m.! I guess Susan Riley and Rosie Barton didn’t find it important.Haven’t seen any coverage on ctv either. Will Fife mention it on QP??

  13. Note that the S**tizen’s embedded videos are all labelled calling Leslie the “new MP” for Orleans…Royal Galipeau is the sitting CPC MP for that riding, and is seeking re-election. Leslie is the new LPC candidate for that riding, not its new MP.

  14. Sammy “Will Fife mention it on QP??”
Not if he’s wearing his Justin Trudeau Liberal kneepads, as usual. Barny doesn’t even pretend to be non-partisan.

  15. I now wonder..
Did the Reform Party back room boys do a reverse take over of the Liberal Party?
As the actions of the Pretty Vacant and those who assemble his image ,sure seems determined to destroy what is left of that once mighty organization.
Harper and Co can give the attack adds a rest, give that crew a paid holiday as the Libtards are scoring more home goals daily than even their best critics could imply.
Now for many of the Chretin years the Liberals were an eastern rump party, now they are an asylum gathering, representing the cities, welfare central.
As reasonable people know, there is no cure for stupidity, short of isolation or death the only humane civiic solution is banishment from places where they might do great harm..
That is why we invented cities..
    Save the food source.

  16. They’ll wake up at the same time as the members of any other political Party in Canada, who ALL parachute in star candidates over the wishes of the local Riding associations.
I am NOT one for exclaiming,”there oughtta be a law”, but in the case of the Party Leader overriding the local Riding people, and thereby subverting any semblance of the democracy we allegedly have, there oughtta be a law.
Now I wonder which PM will enact that law? Maybe the New Messiah……..heh.

  17. ” Today, we are a team, we are a family. Yes, there has been some tensions in the family. This is natural. It’s actually healthy. It shows that there is passion, there is fire.”
    What a line!
The man is spinning faster than a windmill in a hurricane, and likely with the same results.
It is akin to telling someone that you appreciate their anger at your buggering of their child.
Yeah,we are family. Dysfunctional and dishonest, but suck it up, father knows best.

  18. Reading the comments after the article gives one the impression that all is not well in Liberalland. Something about expecting their voices to matter….hmmm could they have been reading the Reform playbook.

  19. Both of dear Andrew’s grandfathers were Liberal Ministers of National Defence (General Andrew McNaughton and Brooke Claxton).
You have three guesses what portfolio he is after in any Trudeau The Younger cabinet.
    First two guesses don’t count.

  20. What’s that old Liberal Drivel again?
Oh yes….Celebrate our differences! Embrace diversity!

  21. So the candidate anointed in this fashion claims that the libs will win the next election due to voter fatigue towards the secrecy and bullying tactics (a paraphrase) of the Harper gov’t. He points to no specifics, simply an image, carefully cultivated by the Media Party. Neither does he have the honesty to look at the secrecy and bullying tactics which garnered his own nomination. However, once again, the real story is the silence in the MSM. If this had been a CPC nomination involving central party brass overriding the local candidate selection process……
