Through the magic of Google Translate;
Hamburg – The grand coalition is planning a departure from their previous climate protection goals. Notwithstanding any other public protestations Federal Economics Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) abandoned the requirement for an internal round, saving at least 40 percent of CO2 emissions compared to 1990 levels by 2020.
“It’s clear that the goal is not to keep,” the Vice Chancellor said to information obtained by SPIEGEL, adding: “We can not from now on regardless of the coal out.”
Maxed Out Mama (whose blog you should bookmark): The Germans can either shut down their nuclear plants or coal, but not both. And due to the high investments in wind and solar, in order to keep the grid voltages stable they have had to issue orders to keep coal plants that were due to be shut down open, plus pay the companies to do so. So they are not in a good position to further cut CO2 emissions – increasing dependence on coal won’t permit it. They are due to shut down more nuclear plants within the decade, and when that happens the excrement really hits the fan.

This is what happens when caving to a bunch of morons means you have to close down all your nuclear power plants.
Now the same morons will be screaming about coal. Then they will scream about the high price of electricity. Then they will scream about the poor.
Note the one consistent factor is morons screaming.
Phantom nailed it.
It seems that most of the advancements in the world in the last 500 years have come from places where it’s cold enough that unprotected people will die during the winter. Surprisingly (/sarc) many of the advances have to do with making it easier for people to stay warm, and live lives closer to the “comfortable living” side than the “two meals away from starvation” side. This wasn’t the intent of the developments, but they were a natural consequence of the increased national wealth that those developments caused. Once the people of these places become accustomed to being warm in winter and take it for granted, there are few sure-fire ways to arouse their ire than to force them to become cold again. Raising energy prices is one of the most visible ways to force those on fixed incomes to become cold again.
Perhaps if the screaming morons had less time on their hands because their own survival depended upon the products of their own work, they’d leave everyone else alone (well fed, warm, and happy).

Well said. “Morons screaming”. We have the same morons here in Canada, and many of them are in high office in the NDP and Liberal Party, including one recently re-elected to the mayoralty in Vancouver. I suspect that there are even a few closet morons in the Conservative Party.
Of course some of these morons are actually disguised crony capitalists making money off of the other screaming morons and us. Think Warren Buffit, Steyer, Tides, Greenpeace, Suzuki Foundation, et al.
The screaming morons run the government in Ontario and other parts eastern Canada.
And all based on a gigantic fraud.
I guess getting the Kyoto date artificially set to 1990 figuring that just shutting-down and/or modernizing East Germany’s factories would achieve Germany’s “carbon goals” didn’t work out. Who coulda known?
Well said, Ken.
The Germans have a crash program to build “lignite fueled” power plants.
No doubt by the time they are ready, some genius will have discovered a
way to also incorporate the “premium lignite” they presently import in huge
quantities from West Virginia with their own very inferior domestic product.
What pathetic green hypocrites.
The evidence is pretty clear; antinuclearism is stronger among the green slime than doing anything significant about their claimed global crisis.
Because it is the “punchline”, to clarify the last sentence a little better (in spite of Google’s noble attempt), it might better be read as:
“We can’t, just now, get rid of coal any time soon.”
The AWG Scam is in the throes of a major setback…in short mother nature is not co-operating.
Don’t be too quick to dismiss the righteous crowd yet, they’re only pulling back just enough so as not to lose so called total credibility.
Like any parasite worth its existence they realize that if you want to keep feeding then one shouldn’t make the host too aware.
Just wait until we see the first above average temperature winter or more extreme temperature summer etc…they will be back.
The public’s attention span is rather short and their propensity for guilt much longer.
With ice already forming in the Great Lakes, a good percentage of Canadians are looking at a prolonged heating season this year. Couple that with what appears to be another cold winter in Europe we may be fortunate enough to see the greenies (grasshoppers) do an about face rather than wither up and die. As mentioned above nothing wakes you up quicker than a cold shower in the morning. For the rest of us ants that plod along making sure we have the where-with-all to ensure that hot shower, it may be bittersweet to say we told you so.
OK…basically Germany has shut it’s nuke plants down…..because….
Germany invested too much in wind/solar to abandon but scant power results….but they must protect their “investment”….
Lignite is the dirtiest fossil fuel for power but Germany must go that route because they shut down their nukes…because…..
So much for German intelligence….
Aside from their relative coefficients of theological hysteria, Coal plants can be brought online / refurbished much cheaper than Nukes. Despite the fact of Nuclear power being safer, cleaner, and in a rational environment, cheaper than most alternatives, don’t expect an actual environmentally sound outcome from the Green theocracies. Much of the world is now run by Inquisitors with increasingly broke theocracies. The halting of nuclear expansion in the Seventies was a source of great pride for the early Inquisitors and much of today’s aversion is in their honour.
The French, despite their own political suicide path, can look down their noses at the Germans reverting to fossils to keep from freezing in the dark, while France, at 75% nuclear, is warm and clean (ignoring the Streets of Paris).
It occurs to your agent.
Germany has the largest proportion of power generated by wind, compared to other countries.
Is it possible, now stay with this for a few minutes, that due to slowing or at time breaking down the wind patterns, that this actually will affect the heat exchange?
Could this cause the AGW, or rather rise of temperature where the weather stations measure heat?
You see, there could be an argument, could have an effect?
The question is probably silly, however the CO2 effect is much the same.
Lately, the arguments of the global warming religionnists are bordering on insane.
The UN and other assorted relgionists in this sphere are alarming the LIV’s out of their wits, saying that we need to do something, as though humans have power over climate.
It is so insane, as Limbaugh sometime says “we did not cause it and we can’t stop it.”
Climate change was……..always.
Climate change is.
Climate change will be….always.
Its the nature of things.
They were an anti-nuclear protest movement before they were an environmental protest movement. Historic fact.
Ken Kulag: Nailed it. Useful idiots = Screaming Morons
Shutting down perfectly well functioning, non polutting, high ROE nuclear plants in favour of using ignite as the fuel for coal plants…is not what I would call forward thinking.
What mate said about Maxed out Mama. The best Econ blog out there in my view.
