  1. Now now, calm yourselves everyone! There is no need to panic – the creature is vegan and only feeds on fruits and nuts…
Oh. Wait. I see we do indeed have a problem here…

  2. “There is no need to panic – the creature is vegan and only feeds on fruits and nuts…”
Whew! Thank goodness. Liberals better hide.

  3. radiation levels almost undetectable? No shit there, “scientists”. That’s why spent fuel rods are stored in pools of water. Water is such a good radiation shield, you would actually get less radiation exposure swimming in a containment pool than you would get walking around due to background radiation in the atmosphere.

  4. Direct radiation from the caesium 134 in seawater wouldn’t be the issue but rather uptake through the food chain.
Still, there will be no impact to people whatsoever from these barely detectable levels.
New sea monsters would be pretty rad, though.

  5. Sorry oldwhiteguy but you are mistaken.
Although they look very similar, that is actually a photo of Vancouver’s Mayor Gregor Robertson in his pool.

  6. Of course, neither China nor North Korea would ever dispose of radioactive waste in the ocean. Simply.Would.Not.Happen.
Now, I’m fairly confident that the Cesium 134 being detected is from Fukushima. Japan has been up-front about the fact that there was indeed a small release of radioactive material. But if there was a reactor accident in China, or simply bad housekeeping on their part, one could expect them to cover it up if at all possible, out of embarrassment, if for no other reason. And North Korea can be expected to lie as a matter of policy.

  7. Natural gas generated electrical power is cheaper for Saskatchewan, and easily scalable.
It is a big plus for a fast growing economy. Fracking! We’re good for 50yrs.
Eric, when we have 4 million in population, you can submit another tender 🙂
Now the Canadian Light Source is generating radio-isotopes for medical use, there goes another argument for nuclear reactors.
Nuclear reactors now come with integral 24/7 SWAT teams to protect them from terrorists.
Guns in the hands of good citizens is s good thing, terrorists, not so much.
But when you’ve got a design small enough to power an electric car… then you can try to persuade Kate to buy one 🙂

  8. You can’t cover up an Iodine 131 plume. That’s how Chernobyl was first detected, by a laboratory in Sweden which forced the Soviet government to reveal what had happened.

  9. There have been 530 atmospheric nuclear detonations since 1945 and humanity somehow survived to become hysterical over nothing.

  10. Oh my…The Creature From The Black Lagoon. It takes me back to my childhood, watching “Creature Double Feature” on channel 17, one of six, SIX TV stations back then. I never fell asleep, not because the shows were scary, but due to our 70’s era green couch, which was upholstered with, I believe, astroturf. We later burnt it in the backyard-take THAT environazis!
