Why is there so much resistance to the fact the financial press is as big a whore as the MSM – you can’t believe much you read in the financials these days. The one thing that is so obvious no lie is big enough to eclipse it is the fact things are not improving – you are less financially liquid/secure than your parents.
In a nation where government claims to be the uber regulator of economomies there is only one suspect in this “mystery” of who stole our loot.
When GE tried to get rid of its appliances last time, there was tremendous internal opposition to it within GE itself. (First hand info)
Occam;
I seem to be following you around these boards.
One must start to question if our economic model can be fixed. From a global perspective can we employ the world’s population at a level that satisfies everyone? Much industrial capacity in NA was either transferred to Mexico or SE Asia over the past 20 years. What can industrial Ontario produce economically that can compete globally. I am sure there are unique markets that can be exploited but they will not employ millions. The industrial strategy pursued by Canada for the past 200 years has been Ontario as the industrial core of a modern nation. The fact that this strategy has collapsed in failure over the last 20 years does not get discussed by the nation. In desperation the core tries to revitalize itself by age old methods of drawing wealth from the regions to sustain itself.
The West does nothing as oil wealth sustains it’s place. The question of what happens when no more resources are left to sell goes unanswered. GE is truly a leading edge corporation which will survive and prosper. Corporations can move where ever in the world where they can survive. Perhaps private enterprise will solve the world’s economic problems. Hoping that politicans will is a real gamble.
Much ado about nothing. The Fishman articles were speculating on the potential for GE to restructure consumer goods business. The Tonelson article is nothing but cheapassed sniping from the Monday morning know it all.
True CT; GE can and will move to its own benefit. My difficulty with GE is it ongoing entanglement with the U.S.A. Governments and probably elsewhere. Have been aware of GE’s success as the only remaining company on the Dow Jones from the founding of the Dow Jones, But dismayed not surprised at the level of participation in Government policy. Cheers;
