If the “dodos” can’t appear on state television any more, they shouldn’t have to help pay for it. They have the right not to pay to support it. That’s part of the concept of freedom of speech and expression.

Mitrovica(the journalist) goes on to compare Murphy’s bona fides and finds them wanting.
Except the only bona fides a skeptic needs is a healthy dose of skepticism, which Mitrovica’s Harvard professor brother lacks but should have, if he were a real scientist doing real science.

It’ time we realized that “professional” journalism is now part of the power structure. Journo acolytes are conditioned to secure the continuity of the status quo and the political class –they delude themselves in believing they are engaged in high level political activism – changing the world for some greater cause , but the reality is they only encourage larger more intrusive governing cabals and the elitist insulated, martinet political class which supports this.
You can’t assume such a role/posture unless you have your commoner empathy and civil ethos conditioned out of your thinking – a trade must be made to assume oneself to be aligned with a klepto- malefic ruling class. That’s where journo-list indoctrinators come in (I will not call them “professors” as journalism is neither a degreed achievement of letters nor a precise science). The power elite have not only monopolized control over the traditional public information vehicles but also have coopted the foot soldiers of the traditional 4th estate. Alternative media and independent journalism is the only source of unadulterated information in this era of hegemonic social control.
Modern journalists working in the MSM structure do not report events in an unbiased ethos – they pimp an agenda by sculpting opinion/propaganda to appear as news reporting. They lie by omission and manufacture consensus with disinformation disguised as informed opinion. To be good at this takes training. Degree courses in Journalism are a clearing house for propagandists.
We live in an era where government,unions, police, the bar, banking and media have formed an alliance to monopolize public policy and impose a common political agenda – this agenda is to build and maintain a crony political class which represses, manipulates and exploits the larger part of the population for their own benefit. MSM/professional journos are part of this and that puts them on the wrong side of an “us and them” social scenario. The feudal estates of society have shrunk from 3 to 2 – there are the new aristocracy (the political class and its cronies) and the peasantry.
We live in an era where civil liberty, personal freedom, inclusive democracy, public empowerment and free markets are being eroded at an accelerated pace by the onset of an authoritarian superclass – journalists are part of the problem.

Since they tell them in “journalist” school that they are going to change the world it their image, they can’t have anyone writing different. It would wholly ruin their self-image.
It is quite interesting how uninformed are those that purport to know and enlighten those that read the stuff.
Going by the surname of the alleged “journalist”, it is somewhat understandable. He or his parents are the product of unchallenged propaganda. Unchallenged because a challenge may relocate you into prison camp. Only the official party line allowed.
Surprising part is that they left that to make other country into the same.

The “earth is cooling” might be a tiny exaggeration…it’s true ( in the mathematical average for the planet sense) , but in real & concrete terms it’s immeasurable and locally useless (The latter of (Locally useless) which is also true for the global warming hypothesis btw, the devil is in the details). But, most of the data seems to point that way once the _bogus_ & tendacious adjustments are stripped out.
I’d recommend heading over the blog “Watt’s up with That?” wattsupwiththat.com and reading the extensive back catalog on the subjects of measuring warming/cooling.
Mr. Watt and co. do a fine job of presenting weather, presenting actual science, and reading science papers critically.
Follows the recipe: open with ad hominem and straw man, repeat several different ways, appeal to irrelevant authority every now and then. Offer no evidence whatsoever, snark, snark and “ain’t I hip?” till the blessed end of rant. Well done.

Reminds me of an event back in the late ’70s. The Vietnamese government stated that they had sent 50,000 to re-education camps — a gross understatement. Later on, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong stated that one million had been released from the re-education camps!
Another example: after Operation Barbarossa it was made illegal in the USSR to even mention the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Quod non apparet non est; what is not discussed or thought about has no existence.

Only problem, his brother is not a climate scientist, he’s a geophysicist who builds theoretical models about how glaciation affects plate tectonics and the internal convection heating of the earth.

The argument put forward by global warming/climate change/extreme weather advocates is that mankind is causing warming by increasing the CO2 content of the atmosphere. Prof. Mitrovica’s expertise is in what happens in the molten core of the earth. That’s like consulting a dentist about your eyesight.
If this is going to be a pissing match over physicists, I suggest three who actually use real-world data to test IPCC models:

Thanks to the endless vandalism of leftist “scientists”, the entire computerized temperature record is hopelessly corrupted. If there’s anyone left who still has a clean copy of the original, “unadjusted” data it will be a -miracle-. Things have gotten to the point where I don’t even look at the official numbers for temperature, I check the thermometer outside. Usually they don’t match. Because the weather station at the airport is in the parking lot next to an AC vent. With a light bulb on inside.
But given that ALL the vandalism has been in the upward direction, I think its safe to assume that a cooling trend is a hell of a lot more likely than the warming that’s being touted. The real crime that’s been perpetrated is that we can’t know for sure. They’ve destroyed the historical record.
Now we have the last gasp of the scam, use of force. When all else fails, stick a gun in somebody’s face if they speak up. That is Andrew Mitrovica’s big plan. Kick the skeptics off TV, and if they still won’t shut up then do what you gotta do.
There’s a word for that. The word is “Communism”. But hey, Fascism works too. Both sides of the same cow chip. Tyranny by any other name would smell as foul.

You found a quote with which to spin. But a better journo would camouflage better with more flowery words that they didn’t even bother clicking on the original link to know what they were commenting on.
The original comparison was “galileo wannabe”. What in your quote would have someone work to want to be in that position?

The folks who claim that the world is cooling may be right, or they may be wrong. Statistically the argument is that close because of the error ranges in measurements.
What they should be arguing is the absolutely incontrovertible fact that climate models have failed abysmally to predict reality. The ‘science is settled’ predictions made by IPCC’s AR5 and the UK MET Office have not come to pass. The suggestion that all of a sudden Mother Nature has decided to warm the ocean depths instead of the atmosphere is questionable on several levels:
It wasn’t predicted
There is no obvious physical mechanism for it
It’s so damned convenient to invent an explanation that puts the ‘missing heat’ into the only place where we have no ability to measure it
But if you want to stay with your religious convictions it’s your issue. But is you want a look at the facts, they are here:

What I should be arguing, and have been arguing, is that skeptics don’t have to prove a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g. Skeptics represent the status quo, which is that There is No CAGW. The entire burden of proof is on the Warmistas. We skeptics get to sit back and shoot holes in their attempts to prove otherwise.
Skeptics don’t have to have the credentials that Warmistas have, which credentials are meaningless anyways because the Warmistas have conferred these credentials on each other for religious orthodoxy while zealously drinking each other’s bath water.
Mitrovica brings up the notion that his Harvardian brother predicted oceans on Mars.
What Mitorvica doesn’t mention, is whether his geophysicist brother explains how driving SUVs on earth caused warming on Mars too.
Arguments about climate change are actually irrelevant here.
It doesn’t matter if Rex Murphy or anyone else is right or wrong on this issue. Rex – or anyone else – is perfectly free to voice an opinion.
There is something quite particularly loathsome about any putative “journalist” who would disagree with this.

Since you apparently consider yourself to be my social and intellectual better, this missive may be for naught. Nonetheless, I was shocked and saddened after reading your piece in the ‘iPolitcs’ blog, titled “Time for CBC to follow BBC’s position on climate change deniers, Rex”. For a journalism instructor to champion censorship of those with whom one disagrees is both disturbing and unethical. You have been given the privilege of training young minds in what once was a noble and rigorous profession. Sadly, neither of those are much in evidence in today’s journalism.
You are welcome to use an appeal to authority (ie: my brother’s impressive credentials) but in an internet era that carries little weight. I have followed the climate debate (Oh wait. I forgot. There is no debate) for many years, from the skewed data of improperly sited measuring stations to the ongoing debacle that is Michael Mann and the East Anglia Climate Research Unit e-mail mess. I’ve watched climate professionals retreat from statements on Himalayan glaciers to hitherto unknown levels of hurricane activity. And I’ve noted the near 18 year stasis in worldwide temperatures. When pray tell, does a ‘pause’ become a ‘trend’?
But all of this is beside the point. The real issue is the propensity of AGW proponents towards totalitarian/fascistic censorship in the face of open debate. Michael Mann will not debate. Al Gore will not publically debate. What does this suggest? Why is it that those supposedly best equipped to argue the science in public open forums refuse to do so. Is it not the foundation of science to be argued, debated and tested? Will not the strongest, most rigorous debate ultimately prevail?
Are you so fearful and unconvinced of your own position that the best you can muster is a “Shut them up/Shut them out”? It is sad, really.
