What I find curious is that a group who wants to form a Islamic state from parts of Syria and Iraq can march across Iraq with what appears to be little opposition. Supposedly this is the same force that has been fighting in Syria for almost 3 years to eliminate Assad. It would appear that they were not able to do that. A military operation of the scope that is reported required supplies and one must assume they are coming from Syria, where this group came from. How is this possible? It does not pass the smell test IMHO.
Assad offered help to Bagdad maybe they should take up his offer. Assad the evil dictator of Syria, on par with Nazis, doesn’t seem to be so bad now. How are Obamables reconciling this turn of events?
I supported the Iraq war and the Afgan adventure but no longer. There is no strategic imperative in the ME anymore other than Israeli security. They are all nuts and will have to figure their own problems put. I suggest the Iranians are a more pragmatic bunch and they should move into Iraq and leave the rest for the nut cases to fight over. I suspect the Saudis are financing this jihadist group just like all the others that preceded it. In many cases they use religious excuses to cover the fact that they are paid for fighting.
In the mean time I watch my Canadian oil stocks go up. Keystone XL and Northern Gateway don’t seem quite so bad now. We can only hope that Harper doesn’t go on another ME adventure like Libya. Keep out of this!
One has to believe the Leader of the Affirmative Baby Boomer Administration will be joining ex-POTUS-Jimmy. Naturally someone will teach ex-POTUS-Barry how to hold a hammer with one hand and a nail with the other with creating harm to either hand.
Reality; at this renewed effort of the evolution of civilization in the birthplace of civilization, is to let them at it. The false Western borders established after the first world war will be re-established to a normal tribal strong man basis.
Western Civilization will be able to monitor and mediate from protectorates of Israel and Kurdistan. This approach served North America well in the Pacific Asian Countries and in the Caribbean with the Phillippines and Puerto Rica. Europe and South Korea is another approach, but I believe Protectorates is best for Israel and Kurdistan. Cheers;
Whoops; (without creating harm)

America Wants the Impossible. Gets the Unmentionable!
The US “intelligence” agencies under the Obama administration are solely interested in spying on Americans.
The unwillingness of the Yank elites to recognise what they are dealing with is a second factor. George W. Bush had
a huge advantage over the Obama creeps because he was a fundamentalist Christian and as such had an understanding
of fundamentalist Islam.
The speed with which the first Islamists under Muhammed and his successors swept through the Byzantine and
Persian empires convinced them that they were God-guided; and is echoed in the present ISIS advance.
The present ISIS leader in Iraq is said to be abu Bakr al Baghdadi. The original abu Bakr (the name means something like
“the first man [to accept Islam]”) was perhaps the best of Muhammed’s commanders, and the first Caliph, and the
conqueror of Jerusalem. So the ISIS leader is saying, “I am the abu Bakr of Baghdad.”
So today I am in the Z.I. and listening to the chatter around me. There is not much comprehension – it is all so
far away.
It took Islam 7 centuries to capture “the Red Apple”, Constantinople. It will not take them nearly so long to overwhelm
“the Big Apple.”
Agreed CT, no good can come with our involvement with this Sunni/Shiite war, other than humanitarian aid to deal with the slaughter. Maybe Saudi Arabia will let up with their war on our oil, bought and paid for with rent seekers and corrupt chiefs.
Let Russia, with her client state Syria, and China, with her client state Iran, deal with it. Whatever we do we’ll be propagandized as the bad guys. It’s a sad reality, but if Islamists are busy killing each other (though tragically their own people), they won’t have much time for Israel especially considering Hezbollah and Hamas religious rivalry.
You’re right Canada and the United States do not need their oil. If this spurs pipeline proliferation (despite the thug tactics of our competitors) and energy self-sufficiency here, then we do just fine thank you very much.
I can’t help feeling a deep sense of pity for the poor people living in these theorcratic thuggeries.
Bomb them back to the stone age. Leave not even an electrical spark, till they are throwing rocks at each other. Eliminate any structures bigger than a tent. Leave them without roads or railway.
The best thing the Americans can do is arm Assad and his Syrian army to take ISIS from behind. Alas, Obama chose the wrong side again – at least from a non-Muslim point of view.
“On the left, we have the likes of Obama’s so-called national security team, including human-rights dabblers like Samantha Power and Ben Rhodes. On the right we have the neoconservatives, who believe that Being Determines Consciousness (democratic institutions will make people into democrats), and Catholic natural law theory, which boils down to the assertion that unaided human reason will lead everyone to the Western idea of individual liberty and democratic governance.”
I particularly liked this paragraph at OMMAG’s link.
Too many “sophisticated” westerners believe they want to be just like us, as our old friend ET claimed repeatedly.
Tribes.Tribal warfare. Let ’em kill each other off,and if they do form a government that’s friendly to us, that’s nice, and if not, make sure they’re scared sh**less of attacking us for NOT being like them.
Revnant Dream, Aviator, and Don Morris, you say it well. This is exactly what we should do or someday soon they will be shooting our soldiers in the back of the head like they did those 1700 Iraqi prisoners.
